A Reckless Love is an exciting and inspirational historical romance, as well as the third and final book in The Daughtry House series.

Tensions are rising amidst the aftermath of the Civil War. The KKK is burning buildings and murdering anyone on the “wrong” side of the war. Black militia struggles to protect their families, friends, and freedom, as well as their livelihoods and homes.

With her copper curls and well-made dresses, Aurora Daughtry may look like a typical southern belle, but her take-charge (some may say "bossy") attitude and her non-stop talking set her apart. Deputy Marshall Zane Sager has spent years searching for the man who took his eye and the lives of several of his friends.

When more people are brutally murdered and Aurora’s life is endangered, Zane has some big decisions to make. Can he protect the woman he is falling for and still get justice for his friends?

Last night I stayed up too late to finish reading A Reckless Love by Beth White. It seems to be a habit of mine.

This is the third in the Daughtry House series and chronicles the story of Aurora, the youngest Daughtry sister, and Zane Sager. Zane is a US Marshall tasked with protecting a couple of states' witnesses until the trial for a federal judge's murder.

Aurora and her sisters have inherited the Dogwood Saloon, but Aurora has designs for the place to make it a boarding house for Civil War widows. When Zane and his charges show up in town, Aurora hides them in the attic of the Dogwood.

Zane and Aurora are attracted to each other, but both of them are living in denial. Zane came through the Civil
War, finishing it out in the Cahaba POW camp in Alabama. His nightmares never seem to end, and he's afraid that he will hurt Aurora because of them. Aurora's empathy breaks through his defenses and unlocks that hidden place within himself.

Aurora's sister, Joelle, gives Aurora one piece of advice that should be given to every young Christian girl: find a man who serves Christ above all, and you will find a worthy husband.

Beth White has been masterful in presenting society's problems of the time. She's got a finger on the pulse of difficulties of the post-war South. The whole series is Five Star Worthy, but this book especially is Five Stars, Two Thumbs Up, and a Fairy Wedding Waltz.

Incredible characters that I feel in love with! This story grabbed my attention from page one and held me captive until the last page. I loved the history in this book and how we should be equal regardless of our skin color. The romance was such a sweet clean romance that invited God into the center. There is so much about this story to love, love for our fellow man, redemption for those who have lived an unsavory life and commitment to family and community. I laughed and was so entertained with all the twist and turns. The author does a fabulous job of taking the reader on a mesmerizing journey!

This is the last of the Daughtry House trilogy, and I have to say it was my favorite. Aurora is full of spunk is not afraid to say so.

The story brings Marshall Zane Sager to Tupelo to watch over the new witnesses for the ongoing trial, and it is the coppery red head that has caught his eye. Besides Daughtry House the girls learn they have also become the owners of the Dogwood Saloon. But no respectable Southern woman can own a saloon. It also becomes the perfect place to hid witnesses that could bring down a lot of high profile men. With Zane's past of prisoner at Cahaba, the explosion of the Sultana in Memphis, and the shooting of Judge Teague, comes back to haunt him, it will only take one spitfire woman who can calm him.

This was a great ending to the story of the Daughtry sisters and would recommend the series very much.

A Reckless Love is the third and last book in Beth White's Daughtry House. The time period is just after the Civil War in Mississippi. I loved the other books in this series and couldn't wait to read more about the youngest sister Aurora. She is matched up with a marshal, Zane Sabiere. He remembers Aurora from his past and has no time to get involved when he is chasing down a wanted criminal. This is one of my favorite couples. There was something about them that made you want everything to work out. I love Ms. White's books she gives us faith, family, and adventure. She will keep your interest until you turn that last page. I received a copy of this book from Revell through NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.

I have read all three books in the Daughtry House series and I think A Reckless Love by Beth White is my favourite.

I found the character of Aurora delightful. She was so much fun! I loved that she would say what was on her mind (sometimes without thinking) and was a "take-charge" kind of gal. The object of her affection, Zane Sager, didn't stand a chance. I adored their romance.

I read the final chapters as racial tension in the States hit a new low. While reading about the mobs in this book, mobs were rioting all over America. It was somewhat surreal to be reading about the Klan and then see white supremacists destroying cities across the nation. How sad that hundreds of years later we are still dealing with racism. The author captured mob mentality perfectly.

There was one loose end in regards to a character named Alonzo Maney. This seemed like the final book in the series, but the question of what happened to Maney was never answered and so now I'm wondering if there will be a fourth book. If there isn't, then there is a major piece of the puzzle missing in this book. Hence the four stars.

Overall, the Daughtry House series is one you should read. I highly recommend them.

"Both her sisters had risked their own lives and reputations to help others. Now it was her turn."

The House of Daughtry series takes place in post-Civil War Mississippi. This third book in the series focuses on Aurora, the youngest of the three sisters. After discovering that she and her sisters have inherited a saloon, Aurora sets out to transform it into a boardinghouse, but she quickly learned that the job was more complicated than it had seemed. Zane Sager is the federal deputy hiding out with his prisoners until justice can be served for crimes related to the previous stories. He is a man of few words, and she never lacked for any, I thoroughly enjoyed seeing how their relationship ebbed and flowed, but I did have some trouble remembering and following details from the earlier stories and how they played into this one. (It could be due to the pandemic's effect on my work schedule, which has kept me busier than ever.) I love the way the personalities of the main characters are revealed, and I love the way the story had sudden surprises. This was a great way to tie together the three stories, and I definitely encourage readers to read the three books in order.

I received a complimentary advance copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher, but my opinions are my own.

Reckless, yes, Aurora Daughtry could be quite reckless, often speaking and acting before thinking. As the youngest of the Daughtry sisters, she might be just a bit spoiled and used to getting her way, but always with the best of intentions. US Deputy Marshal Zane Sager had never encountered anyone quite like her, and their personalities and backgrounds were quite opposites of one another, making him feel a little off kilter in her world, and also making it very hard to protect her as she so often dove right into circumstances where she didn't belong. In addition to Aurora and Zane, the cast of characters that White has included in this final book of the Daughtry House are lovable and fun. I've loved the series, and this book is just as wonderful as the first two. The research behind the book is top notch, and the plot well laid out and well played through. While I believe a reader would most enjoy the book as part of the series, they could read it as a stand-alone without feeling lost. I am grateful to have received a copy of A Reckless Love from Revell via NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion. I was under no obligation to provide a positive review and received no monetary compensation.

Love bears all things

Book 3 in the Daughtry House series, the author provides sufficient info that this can effectively standalone, though clearly it will be richer story if you've read the other sisters books first.

Aurora is a delightful girl - strong-willed but in the genteel way that only a true southern belle can pull off.

Zane is a noble soul who has given so much of himself, literally & figuratively, to do what he believes is right in this world.

His pursuit of a judge's killer brings him to the attention of Aurora's tender, restorative heart.
Now he not only has much to gain from their encounter, but too much to lose.

The story does get a little bogged down in its own details at times, but mostly succeeds as a sweet love story with some suspense and excitement thrown in to the mix

•Clean romance level: passionate kisses, nothing graphic

Aurora's sisters are in the process of settling down, so it seems time for her to find something to do with herself. Finding herself joint-owner with her sisters of a saloon, she decides to set it up as a boarding house for ladies - but before it comes to that, she finds herself secretly housing a lawman and his two prisoners. He is focussed on bringing to justice a criminal who has links to his past, while she is fascinated by him.

I have found this book somewhat difficult to review. I think I was really in the mood for something lighter than this book at the time when I read it, so that may have influenced how I felt about it. I also hadn't realised that this was part of a series, and I have not read the previous two books, so I might have been missing some back-story - I certainly did feel a bit unsure as to how some of the minor characters fitted in. Overall, although the writing is good, I didn't really connect much with the characters and didn't feel too invested in what was going on. Also, I felt that the book finished rather abruptly and with things not tied up neatly - though I don't want to give examples for fear of spoilers. All in all, the author writes well but personally I didn't particularly care for the story. I guess I'd suggest that if the storyline appeals, readers start from the start of the series because it might help the minor characters to fit into the story better and lead to a more satisfying whole. For myself, I probably won't read more by the author, but I wouldn't necessarily suggest that others avoid doing so because it might be just their cup of tea.

Note that I received a complimentary copy of the book from NetGalley. I was not required to write a positive review and this is my considered opinion of the book.

We are back with the Daughtry sisters, and their struggles, and are reunited with those we have come to care about. Now, this is the third book in this series, and I have read the other two, just as great as this read, you will not be lost if you pick this one up first. Evil is still walking around this Mississippi area, still rebuilding after the Civil War, and some holding their personal hates, and greed.
This is the youngest daughter's story, Aurora, and meeting Federal Deputy Zane Sager, and his quest to bring justice. I loved how the facts unfold and surprise meetings in the past, along with other surprises.
Can you imagine these sweet southern women inheriting a saloon, yup, and watch [or read] what happens to the ladies who are still in the building!
There are a few scary times here, and you wonder if all will survive, and there is also the compassion these sisters show to their fellow man, and I loved being with them again.
I wish there were more sister's here for another book, and be sure to read the author's notes at the end, great insight!

Thanks to Netgalley and Revell for the ARC of this book. I have most certainly not run out of reading material for this COVID 19 period of time.
This one just wasn't for me. I found it very difficult to get involved in this romance. Possibly, because I had not read the first two in the series.
I didn't enjoy this book.

Ahh, "A Reckless Love", this story does indeed show recklessness at times and love.

I really will have to go back to the first book in the series, "A Rebel Heart" and read it since I was slightly lost when reading the second and now the third books in the series.

That didn't stop me from enjoying the book though, and I want to mention here that I did skim at parts, only because I couldn't get into the writing style, yet, I loved the story and characters.

"A Reckless Love" is a strong ending to a strong series of healing after a horrible time in America's history. I enjoyed seeing more than one side of the Civil War and the aftermath of the war's end.

There was some content that makes this a book for readers older than 18, just mentions of things that you wouldn't want to read. And the last pages of the book are between a husband and wife after a nightmare and she suggests he love her... It made me somewhat uncomfortable otherwise from what I have read this is a great book.

Unfortunately I could not get through this romance novel. The plot is incredibly slow and the characters are not interesting. It is true to its time just not compelling enough to hold my interest.

“Reckless Love” by Beth White is the third book in the Daughtry House series. I had the privilege of reading the previous two books and enjoyed them very much, as I did this novel.

The three Daughtry sisters, Selah, Joelle, and Aurora (also called Pete) and the heroines of this series of novels which take place during and after the Civil War. Each novel spotlights one of the sisters as the heroine of the novel. In “Reckless Love”, we follow Aurora as she whirls and twirls her way through life. She can talk a preacher into retirement and has a solution for everything.

The sisters find out that they’ve inherited a saloon and Aurora decides to make it a boarding house. First, she has to re-educate the two “girls” who are residing there. Then she takes on the task of renovating the premises to more resemble a presentable establishment. The Daughtry women have been harassed by members of the KKK because of their association with the freedmen and their social acceptance of the blacks in their community. Because of the violence and killings that have taken place in their area if Mississippi, Federal Marshals have been called to protect them and protect informants who are to stand trial. Zane Sager is in charge of two prisoners whom he has to keep alive in order to testify. When Aurora steps in with her inquisitiveness and forcefulness, the two are at loggerheads most of the time. We will see by the end of the novel just how two strong-willed people can come to grips with their feelings. We may even see some resolutions to the problems of violence and terrorism prevalent in the south at this time.

Ms. White writes novels with humor, wit, romance, and danger. I read this book in one day. I know you will find this and other novels by Ms. Bradley definitely worth your reading time.

I love historical fiction. I also feel like historical fiction can be tricky to get perfect.

While I loved this storyline and Aurora I felt the book was a little slow and dry.

Having enjoyed book 1, A Rebel Heart, I know this author can write an engaging post Civil War romantic tale. However, book 3, A Reckless Love, just seemed too slow paced and overly verbose/drawn out. A sure sign was by Chapter 10 the main couple had barely interacted. At 63% into it, they finally were having conversations but, again, too much verbiage and other drawn out content kept getting in the way. I found myself skimming through this book a lot. Just when I thought they were going to make some relationship progress, time would be diverted back to Zane’s mission in one form or another and/or rehashing/adding details revolving around the very large cast of past and present characters instigating or caught up in the political mayhem of that era. I honestly could not and did not want to keep up/track of it all. In fact, more characters kept getting added to the plot pot. If you don't read for mostly romance, this may not bother you at all. Based on the title, I thought their relationship would be the focal point.

Here’s to hoping others really enjoy this book. Again, if you don’t mind putting the love story on the back burner, you may enjoy this post Civil War era drama. I did really like the main couple and wanted to see them get a HEA. However, the author chose to leisurely stroll, split up events, and meander here and there to the point I couldn’t stay constantly engaged.

So far, I have skipped book 2, Reluctant Belle. Some major events that happened there are discussed here. If you don’t like spoilers, read that book first. Now I’m not so sure I will bother to attempt to read it. Not that there likely isn’t a decent love story there. I’m just afraid it also is buried too deep within the pages.

Title: A Reckless Love, Series: Daughtry House (Book 3), Author: Beth White, Pages: 368, Pub. date: 6/2/20, stand-alone but part of a series, clean romance, Christian content, post Civil War era, some violence.

I very much enjoyed Aurora's story. It was actually a bit funny in several places. I liked that the other sisters were involved in the storyline but it did not detract from Aurora. Highly recommended.

A Reckless Love by Beth White is the last in a series about the Daughtry Girls set in northeast Mississippi after the Civil War. This one featured the youngest sister, Aurora. She is a feisty little red head who seems to have no trouble speaking her mind. The hero, is a quiet marshal who seeks justice and has no time for any distractions. This is an adorably cute story with action, suspense and of course romance.
