When I sent the request for this book I hadn’t realized that it was a sequel. I did not read this since I hadn’t read the first book before.
I DNFed it, this book wasn't for me but it might be for someone else who enjoys the post-apocalyptic/sci-fi stories!
This is a nice little techno YA read in a futuristic setting where humans live alongside Cyborgs, but any interaction with between is forbidden. Seven different districts are ranging from the capital of the rich to cities and farmland strictly governed in this world. From what I gather, it is helpful to read the first three books to understand how these districts have developed, but it wasn’t an issue for me at all. I took it as is and the story worked just fine.
This has a great flow and storyline! I'm curious as to where the story will go next! Mystery and cyborgs? A recipe for a good story!
First of all a big thank you to the author, publishers and Netgalley for sending me a copy of this book to read and review.
Going into this I did not realise that there is actually a series set in this world before this one. Maybe if I had read them in the right order I would have enjoyed them more.
This was an interesting, easy and quick read. I managed to get through the whole thing in a day. I enjoyed the characters and the development. However I did feel like it was missing something. By the end I had more questions than answers.
For fans of The Hunger Games, Divergent, and Sci-fi stories with a touch of romance, After Darkness is absolutely a book you’ll want to pick up! In a world set in the future where Humans and Cyborgs are forbidden to interact, our feisty female MC just wants to set things right in the world as she’s exhausted from having to hide what makes her happy. Found family, adventure, monsters, and a sweet forbidden romance makes this a robust and adventurous Sci-fi dystopian story.
I found this to be an enjoyable read, keeping me on my toes throughout. The storyline was written well and flowed seamlessly. I look forward to reading more by this author!
This book just was not for me I didn't enjoy the plot or the charaters, the story line felt rushed and the charaters very not to my liking
I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This was an easy read! I blew right through it. I enjoyed this so much. The writing style was flawless! I am a big fan of this series, so I was super excited to get this arc. This one did not disappoint!
Thank you kindly to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for this review copy.
i really enjoyed reading this, the characters were great and I really enjoyed the premise. I would be interesting in seeing where this series goes.
Unfortunately this book was not for me as much as I wanted it to be. The synopsis sounded fantastic, but I just couldn't get past 50 percent of the book. Well written though.
After darkness is the prequel of the eternal darkness saga, all I gotta say is: I didn't like it, it felt like there was something that didn't got into my way to like it
I absolutely adored thjs sci-fi mystery novel. I love reading about "near future" type of worlds and especially those with technology at the center point. The balance between mystery and science was very well done.
I don't remember the text saying this was a sequel, and when I later looked it up it's actually #4?? Anyway, it's a good futuristic ya book with cyborgs, so of course I had to read it. It's very easy to read and it made a great dystopian story. The character development was nice and I loved the strong female MC, and even the minor characters were fleshed out well!

In the year 2160, cyborgs and humans are living together in a dystopian city. the Nation is ruled by strict laws, whose violation is punishable by death: humans and cyborgs can not communicate with each other in any shape or form.
Terra Underwood, a human, the daughter of an important member of the government, is living in a good neighborhood, and going to the best school. But the only thing that seems to excite her is her visits to the pits. A secret place where the essential rules are bent by organizing illegal fights between the 2 species. One day she meets the cyborg boy from her recurrent nightmare Kalem Akuma. They will reunite their forces and decide to go on the ultimate adventure to bring the government down.
"After darkness" is the sequel of The Eternal Darkness series, but can be read as stand-alone. I loved everything about the story and I absolutely fell in love with the characters. Terra's sarcastic and rebellious character is the perfect match for Kalem's seriousness and mysterious personality.
The twists and surprises got me hooked and I loved all the details and the backstories. Terra and Kalem are just perfect, I couldn't get enough of their witty dialogues. I'm definitely checking the prequel.
Many thanks to netgalley and the publishers for my review copy
I need to read the rest of this series. This book was ok as a standalone but I want to read more and see what else happens.
I enjoyed this book, the characters and the development of them. Terra was a strong female, especially mentally. She has secrets and holds her own, so yay! The romance between them was powerful and amazingly written. I enjoyed it!
There was some things that i found repetitive in the story that just stuck there like...hmm, really? Why did this happen so many times? From Terra getting hurt so many times as to why is here when it does nothing for the plot.
It was over all a good book, I just feel like I missed a lot.

"After Darkness" is the fourth book in this author's "Eternal Darkness" series, and although I didn't read the other books in the series beforehand, I still found this book easy to understand and follow along with. This story takes place in the year 2160, where humans and cyborgs live in the same world, but one of the rules of this world is that they are forbidden from interacting with each other. The prologue that introduces the book describes a nightmare that Terra Underwood, the main character, consistently has and remembers very vividly, and she deals with this and the anger she feels by participating in fights in an underground area called The Pits. In addition, Terra starts to see elements of this nightmare appear in her real life as she spends time with one of the other major characters in the story, Kalem Akuma, who is revealed to be a cyborg.
I like the relationship between the two main characters and how we see it develop throughout the course of the story, I think that some of the secondary characters (namely, Scarlet and Eric) have a really good relationship as well, which the story shows a lot of.
I haven’t read too many sci-fi books, but this book continued to interest me with its intriguing plot and the growing relationships between the characters. “After Darkness” is a very captivating book that will keep readers on the edge of their seats.
Thank you to the publisher and to Netgalley for the advance copy of this book!
This was a SFF that I was looking forward to and I actually loved this book. The atmosphere was great and I loved the plot and storyline in the book. It could have moved faster in the story for me but other than that, I loved it. I loved the characters in this story. It gave me all the feels I was looking for when I started reading this. I highly recommend this author. I loved the writing. I will be looking for other works in the future from this author.
