I am not new to keto, but this book did include some interesting science behind the diet that I found interesting. I'm always trying to look at ways to shake up my diet to keep it interesting so I am always intrigued by new approaches. However, I was just not impressed with this one. There is very little actual information on food/menu ideas, and there are way to many supplements and smoothies to be anything other than a very short term solution in my opinion. I just didn't feel like I got enough from this to make it be really worthwhile. And honestly, weird references to porn were just not necessary and provided nothing to the overall diet. Would not recommend this other than for some of the introductory reading.
I am currently attempting to follow the Keto diet with my own variations; a little less fat and a little more greens than recommended so this book seemed perfect for me. This is the author’s version of the Keto diet and not necessarily true to Keto, perhaps calling it something else might have been helpful.
Though there was a lot of information especially about hormones, maybe even too much information there was not enough Keto FOOD information. I would have liked more food information and less supplement information.
Some of the recipes were good, easy to prepare and not a lengthy list of ingredients.
Very detailed information about hormones and how they might not be functioning and the impact that can have on dieting.
There is detailed information about the author's version of the keto diet but to me this was underwhelming and not true to Keto.
Don't get me wrong I have raved about other non-conforming Keto books before (I am not afraid to deviate or make my own way) but this one was too heavily reliant on dietary supplements and shakes for results and seems more of a twist on a liquid cleanse for part of the day which was not what I was looking for. Also Keto is not an alkaline diet and I don't necessarily agree with combining the two together. This book for me was kind of all over the place mixing liquid meal replacements, supplements and alkaline cleanses with a bland meal. If this twist sounds promising you may like this book. It seems to be a rapid weight loss short term 16 day diet. To me Keto is more of a lifestyle change but I can see that this may appeal to some who just want some quick results.
Also I must say I could have lived without reading what porn does to testosterone levels and other things to correct it... HARD PASS and I wasn't expecting that in a cookbook but to each there own.
All recipes are in the last 30 pages of 185. Mostly shakes, the recipes all have minimal ingredients and would be fairly fast to prepare.
I received this book from NetGalley for an honest review.
I was underwhelmed with the book. It felt like the author was trying really hard to push her products like her meal replacement shakes and supplements and frankly i don't think that meal replacement shakes should be pushed on any diet. A lot of foods she was suggesting were very high in sugars- a cup of pineapple is 22 grams of carbs, how can it possibly fit into a keto diet? It can't even fit into a low carb diet.
This book was a disappointment. As someone who has been doing keto for almost 2 years, I was excited to see a book with healthy recipes and new ideas. This book is . . . not that. The first 70% is all about the keto diet, various reasons as to why it's healthy and the science behind it. That's great, but not what I wanted. It honestly seemed like too much information and I'm not sure who it would benefit. I feel like a newcomer to the diet would be overwhelmed by it and a veteran of the diet probably already knows most of it. She makes the diet way more complicated than it needs to be.
The recipes seem fine, but nothing new or innovative. I understand this is supposed to be a 16 day diet to power your body, but it's no different than I eat every day, except she promotes a meal replacement that she sells (no thanks.) She also includes some recipes that I honestly question the carb count of- mango (which I love but 1 mango has 50 carbs) and beans? She also doesn't include any of the nutritional values for her recipes.
This book is a hard no for me. A few pages of recipes, way too much information, no nutritional info and an over-complicating of a simple diet isn't helpful.
I love the very detailed information about all of the different hormones amd hownthey might not be functioning well at the beginning of the book. There is detailed information about the author's version of the keto diet and why sje changes it up to better fit a weight loss kourney and I definitely plan on trying it. I also loke that she includes a vegan plan for non meat eaters. The only thing I didn't like was the many supplements suggested and branded products you can only get from the author's website. A whole foods ketogenic diet is expensive enough without having to buy so many supplements. Maybe she could have suggested a few that were absolutely vital and made the others optional. I will be trying the plan but with the supplements I already take. I look forward to seeing the results!
