I really wanted to love this one. But it took me entirely too long to get a handle on all of the characters and was left a little underwhelmed by the end of the book
Destination Wedding is a cute, fast-paced contemporary romance book that I liked. I was definitely intrigued with the family secrets and gossip, and the pacing was pretty smooth. Also loved the Indian representation. BUT, I found the characters a little annoying at times, I also think the language could have been tighter in certain chapters. I can't really turn off my editor brain, so this was hard for me at times. Overall, though, a cute read!
A comedy of manners Bollywood style. It’s a wedding complete with 1000 guests. Divorced parents. Unresolved issues that relate to said divorce. One parent brings her boyfriend along which remains the topic of conversation more often than it should. Shefali and Pavan knew that their union would have its challenges but that’s why Bubbles Trivedi was hired as the wedding planner. Unbeknownst to the families this is the biggest event she has ever overseen. It’s a true behind the scene look at big events that go slightly off the rails only to right in the end.
A fun, wild ride, Destination Wedding is the perfect summer read. Full of eclectic characters and come on, who doesn't love a book about a wedding. Cue all the romance and mishaps. I really enjoyed this exploration into different cultures and finding yourself. The place you can finally call home, surrounded by those you love and care about. A warm, charming, feel-good novel.
This is a hilarious and engaging read. Starting with the first page, I was hooked. There is a gentle breeze blowing.
This really seemed like a lot going on at one time. It was hard for me to get into. Thank you for letting me read the book.
I think this one had too much going on for me to immerse myself in the world and enjoy it. I like quirky but this was maybe too much for me in the end.
More Like 2 and ½ Stars rounded up to 3. I think. Maybe. Oh gosh, I feel so bad.
A huge thank you to NetGalley and Ballantine Books for my advanced copy of Destination Wedding.
This review has been a long time coming. I've had this book on my kindle for almost 2 years!!
I saw the audio on Libro.fm and said now is the time.
I don't regret reading/listening to this. At all. Parts of the story were interesting.
This book is very character driven. I appreciated the constant shift in perspectives. However, I didn't feel particularly attached to any one character.
We spent a lot of time at the destination which was India. I just felt like I was listening to things happen in this wonderful setting without the sense of actually being there. It felt like something was missing.
Now as for the wedding part. It takes up a very tiny part of the book. Which wouldn't have been so bad if I was invested in the characters. The characters in a book often make the story for me.
I wanted more.
Overall- underwhelmed. I may give this author another chance. We shall see.
This is a fast paced read about a wedding. Lots of family drama and all the antics that lead up to the wedding and so on. The author writes well, interesting story line, some very unlikable characters, or maybe they just got under my skin, seemed like spoiled brats! lol The story never bored me but at the same time it just didn't grab me, it took me a week to finish it. If you love high family drama this is for you!
Destination wedding follows Tina Das and those closest to her on a trip to a wedding in India. Tina is feeling insecure at work and in many other areas of her life, so the trip has come at a very opportune time. This book is rich with Indian culture while keeping a very Bollywood vibe. Unfortunately, it missed the mark for me. I found it hard to read through and never became invested in any of the characters. By the end, I was completely ambivalent. I loved the premise of the destination wedding in India, but I just didn't connect with this book or the main character.
Thanks so much to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced reader copy of this publication in exchange for my thoughts.
I didn't love this one as much as I thought I would. I was quickly drawn into the story within the first 25 pages and loved the familiar dynamic. As the story progressed, I found myself getting confused with characters and their relationship with one another.
Her life falls apart and she's trying to find herself? Count me in! This was an adorable book and I really loved that it took place in India since I've always wanted to travel there.
DNF - Did not finish. I decided not to keep reading this title because I did not connect with the writing or plot. Thank you, NetGalley and publisher for the early copy!
This was a DNF about 100 pages into the book. I could not connect to the characters, which is fine. But the plot was going nowhere. 100 pages in something has to happen.
I was not able to get into this book unfortunately I wanted to like it so much because I heard great things about it but it was a DNF for me within 20% of the book.
A true cast of characters. It took me a good 30% way through to grasp all of the characters. I am not sure I really liked any of them, but I did want them all to get their happy ending and they did. Basu really wrapped things up nicely.
This is the book I truly needed during COVID - a lovely escape from all that ails us during these crazy times.
This book was quite entertaining! It almost read like a Bollywood movie. However, while it was a quick & fun read, I wasn’t a big fan of the two girls, Tina & Marianne - their characters were not fully developed, nor was their any growth, and they were downright annoying at certain moments. Overall, an enjoyable read - something light to breeze through!
What a great read. I love the dive into Tina’s life and I especially loved the focus on the other characters in the book. This is my first book by this author but I loved their writing style and the way they wove humor into the characters and their storylines.
This story was rather slow for me. Took me far too long to get into the story or care about the characters. I wanted to enjoy this more.
