What happens when you mix a spy, who needs a fake wife (who is an assassin), and a daughter (who is a telepath)? Lots of adventure and fun, that's what! Cleverly drawn out, witty, and intelligent, this story really works. I found myself rooting for them and wishing the story didn't end. But then again, there's always the next episode. Highly recommended.

I'm going to be honest, this one took awhile to grow on me. Mission One didn't really do much for me, but by the end of Mission Two this manga finally managed to get a real chuckle out of me. Mission Three was alright too.
Basically the premise is a master spy needs to gain access to a very prestigious school and the only way to do so is to enroll a child. But the school only takes students with two parents (for some reason) so Twilight, the spy, has to find himself a fake offspring who can pass the entrance exam and a fake wife who can help him get through the interview process in order to gain access to the school.
To make it more amusing the daughter he adopts has a special power and the wife is more than she appears to be. So Twilight and his 'wife' are basically using each other as a means to their ends and only the 'daughter' knows what both of them do for a living but never tells anyone.
The art is quite impressive in places. the humor is a bit slapstick, but amusing enough once you get into it. It's an amusing idea with a nice twist to make it feel more like a 'fresh' idea for manga. I feel like I watched a movie or tv show with a similar premise though.

I really enjoyed the hijinks of this manga. Great characters, fun situation. I didn't want it to end and cannot wait to read more about this family!

A fantastic book through and through, literally has just about everything going for it. Story is absorbing, the writing is smart and well thought-out, the art is good (particularly the settings), and the characters are the absolutely perfect blend of deep, entertaining, and amusing. I had a ton of fun reading this book, and I've got to imagine all readers will too. This is a title that has A TON of buzz behind it, topping many 'most-anticipated' lists. It's a title whose first volume gets the series off to a killer start, and you know it's only going to get better going forth. Nothing short of phenomenal, easily the class of any manga I've read so far in 2020.

Thank you to NetGalley and VizMedia for copies of reviews in exchange for my honest reviews.
Spy X Family has a perfectly balanced plot, action packed with a few touches of family problems.
I cannot say anything but "PERFECT" for this book. Twilight, a spy with high skills, is always trusted with dangerous missions, until he gets a new mission where he must have a family to make the mission run successfully. This is where the story becomes more interesting, he meets Anya who turns out to have telepathic expertise and recruits him as his daughter, then Yor who actually has difficulty finding a partner, but behind that personal problem, she is an assassin, an assassin who has unique skills too !! Twilight then recruits her as his wife, and complete the Folger family, part of the new Twilight mission. Imagine how unique the three characters are brought together, filled with a variety of unique interactions between them, and in the end they realize that they need and want to stay for each other.
Amazing reads, lots of funny scenes that are enough to make me not only smile, but laugh! Full of action, do not rule out the human side between characters, charming books. These three characters are so much fun being combined with their respective personalities, truly admiring this book! I can't wait to read the next Foger family book.

An interesting plot is presented here for the readers. I'm not sure if its a romance or an action novel. Its similar to the story of Mr. and Mrs. Smith but with the added bonus of a child. I'm am currently wondering how these people have made it far in their professions where they miss obvious clues as something not being part of the norm. Maybe that's why this works? The art style is unique and not over flowery. It can easily lend itself to that style but it has maintained its seriousness with occasional humorous drawings thrown in. The plot for volume one seems well developed but readers will have to see if it carries on in the future volumes. It will have to take care not to be similar to Black Butler which starts out as nonsensical but then develops the main plot in future volumes. An interesting read, that makes me want to read the next volume so check it out if you're looking for something new to read..

Whenever I find a book I really love I find it hard to review. This was everything I wanted and more and it's a story I didn't even know I needed in my life until now.
The characters were amazing and I am completely obsessed with them all. I just couldn't get over how this author managed to make me fall so in love so quickly.
Spy x Family has the perfect balance of plot, humor, character interactions and action sequences.
Seriously please pick this up you will not be disappointed. I have this one preordered because I need to read the physical copy asap.
Amazing I can not wait for the next book in the series.
P.S Please be here soon!

I absolutely adored this! Twilight was a very interesting character to begin with. When one of his missions requires a wife and child what else can you do but find both. Anya was also super cute! And the Thorn Princess on the other hand is a badass! I really enjoyed the art style.

I found the story quite amusing at the beginning what with a spy thinking he can just order up a complete family unit in such a short period of time just to fulfill a mission? But then Twilight had only ever had to depend upon himself so in all honesty this was a bit new territory for him but he never backed down from a mission so here they are his newly fabricated unit trying to come off as a real functioning family for the sake of his mission......only something has changed and things have went from pretend to them actually enjoying the feeling of being a "real" family but will they stay together or go their separate ways when the mission is completed?
This was such a fun adventure with awesome artwork and dialogue as Loid/Twilight puts his family unit together and they begin rehearsing things a family should know about each other while dodging bad guys and all that fun stuff! I can't wait to see what happens next!

This book was amazing. I just have to lay that out now.
I’m not an avid reader of comic books. I don’t think I ever will be. But Spy x Family is really making me want to be! It starts off with Twilight completing one of his many missions and evading capture in true spy fashion. With mostly pictures and not a lot of words, it took me a minute to catch up to what was going on, but as I said, I’m not an avid comic book reader.
Anyways, after Twilight finishes his assignment, he gets a new one—he must infiltrate a high-society school in order to gain access to his target. And the only way to do that? Twilight must first get married and have a child.
This is when things start to get hilarious. In essence, Spy x Family is a comedy. But it also has some serious moments. Moments that show you the true nature of the world that Twilight lives in. Small peeks into deeper levels that I think will be explored more in the second book.
I won’t say any more for fear of spoiling the plot, but I will say, it was well written and the pictures were superb. And After reading the last sentence, I long to know what will happen next!
Spy x Family is a fun romp fit for anyone who enjoys action-adventure, comedy, comic books, or spy novels.

If I had to describe this manga volume in one word, it'd be adorable!
The main hero, Twilight, likes to think he's a cold, emotionless, typical action hero but he's not. He's a gooey marshmallow, who considers abandoning his mission the moment it puts the child in danger. The child who is adorable by the way! I love Anya and I want her family to stay together forever! Yor, the heroine, is similar to Twilight in the way she thinks she doesn't personally need love or affection (except for her brother) but just to take care of her brother and the world. This first volume sets up a great, storyline I would love to follow!
This manga combines three of favorite things, found family, a marriage of convenience, and spies. If either of those three are things you're interested in I recommend this manga!

This has to be one of the most funny manga I've read. I found it also to be intriguing and multi-layered and heartfelt. The art style was interesting and reminded of another manga I enjoyed, Black Exorcist. I thought it was a combination of something like 'Mission: Impossible' and 'Deathnote' along with another. I would totally recommend this to anyone who enjoys 'Deathnote.'

This is genuinely the perfect balance of cute and intense and I love it to hell and back.
Loid is your typical cold, calculating spy who has a solid policy of never letting emotions interfere with his work. His code name is Twilight and he's known to be a man of many faces, who's recruited to go on a mission in which he must infiltrate this elite school in order to get close to one of the world's leaders and stop a war from breaking out. Only, in order to do that, he needs two things: a child to send to the school and a wife to pose as her mother.
What I adore so much about Spy x Family is just how precious the characters are. Loid becomes so attached to his adoptive daughter, Anya, and his new wife, Yor, and their little strange family bond is just so adorable to see. And the fact that Anya can read minds and very well knows the secrets that both her adoptive mother and father are hiding and how hard she tries to make sure that she doesn't fail on the mission so that they don't get split up just warms my heart.
I'd highly, highly recommend this to anyone. It's so cute, and I swear it's worth your time. Can't wait to see where the story goes from here!

This was amazing!! It was so funny, I laughed out loud. A spy, and assassin, and a telepath disguised as a family to uncover state secrets by having the young girl enroll in a prestigious private school.
This has everything, action, drama, romance, mystery, and intrigue. I fell in love with this and I can’t wait to see what happens next. A brilliant storyline and lovely artwork.

The best spy in Westalis suddenly finds himself in need of a wife and child in order to complete his new mission, so he does it expeditiously by adopting a random child from an orphanage and asking a stranger to marry him. The best thing is that he doesn't know that the little girl is psychic and the woman is an assassin. This is where the writing pays off handsomely with fantastic pacing and tons of laugh-out-loud moments. It's a fun mix of serious Bond-like intrigue and slice of life antics that entertains from page one. Endo's comedic timing is as perfect as their plot pacing and it shows in how smoothly every page flows.
Endo's art is both detailed and simplistic as needed and it plays up the funny elements and moments brilliantly. It also adds depth to the scenes that require a more serious outlook while not deviating at all from the general art style of the series. It's a difficult line to tread, but Spy x Family does it beautifully.
Overall, I'm prepared to hype this series like crazy and ready to back it up. It's fun, different, and incredibly original. Definitely one of my favorite things Viz/Shonen Jump has published lately.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Viz for the early peek.

Thanks to VIZ Media and NetGalley for an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
Spy x Family by Tatsuya Endo is my first foray into manga. It took me a bit to get into it and read the panels in the correct order. I liked the little girl Anya who is a telepath. This first book seems to be building the background of the series. Looking forward to future books in the series. 3.5 stars.

Spy x Family, Vol. 1, by Tatsuya Endo, was one of the most entertaining manga books (or any type of book) I have ever read. A humorous, action-packed, sarcastic, ironic satire on the cold war, elite schools, spies, assassins, orphanages, families, the rich, and much, much more.
Two countries, one East and one West, are waging a cold war through their spy services, risking life and limb for things such as pictures proving a minister wears a toupee….. the top spy in the West is Twilight, who gets tasked with an impossible (for him) mission – get a family together and infiltrate an elite boarding school. What’s a spy to do? Head to the local shady orphanage and pick up a child (who happens to be a telepath), steal the files of single women working in the civil service and pick a likely candidate to pretend (or maybe not just pretend?) to be his wife (who happens to be an assassin looking for a boyfriend as part of her cover). Can they do enough to pass the entrance exams and interviews?
Mr. Endo does a superb job not only writing the story, but also illustrating the book. In particular, the expressions of the girl Anya are absolutely wonderful as she tries to keep her telepathy a secret while her dad fumes about his secret life. This is definitely a family (and a series) that I will be returning to as soon as I can. My only complaint is that this is too short – Mr. Endo leaves us at a cliffhanger and wanting more!
I requested and received a free advanced electronic copy from VIZ Media via NetGalley. Thank you!

I LOVED this comic!!! I can't wait until the next one in the series. It tells the story of a lone wolf spy who it would seem that his identity is a complete secret as he is the master of disguise. He receives an assignment that requires he have a wife and child because he needs to have his child be enrolled into an elite school. The school is the focus of where he will be investigating and of course the best cover would be to have a child there.
So you're thinking, okay this is a mystery of thriller.
Well, yes kinda. But actually, it's HILARIOUS. It is quite comical how the spy, Twilight, goes about getting a fake daughter and fake wife and their rough and tumble experiences they go through in an attempt to get the child, Anya, into the elite school. It was so unexpectedly funny for a spy story and I am here for it. A must read!

Spy X Family Vol 1 by Tatsuya Endo is the first magna in the Spy X Family Series. This was my first Magna and I enjoyed it immensely. It was such a fresh and fun read that I devoured it in one sitting! What originally pulled me in was the cover art. The cover is sleek and modern, it makes me want to know more about what the character is planning. The entire storyline is unique and the characters interaction with each other was great; even darn right funny at times. We follow the story of world class spy Twilight who, in order to complete his latest assignment must acquire a wife and child, but of course his chosen "targets" are not normal. The child Anya ends up being a telepath, and the mom Yuri is an assassin.
The artwork is superb. I felt the style is well suited to the story and very clean and crisp. This was a nice departure from everything else I am currently reading and wholly unique. I will definitely continue on with the series.
Published by VIZ Media, Spy X Family is will release June 2, 2020 and is available for preorder from all major booksellers. I give Spy X Family 5 out of 5 gems. I'm looking forward to reading the next installment in this great series.

Spy x Family is a graphic novel about a spy named Twilight who’s newest mission involves him setting up a family, what he ends up getting is an assasin for a wife, and a telepathic child. Volume 1 has us being introduced to the character and them trying to get the child into an exclusive school. I don't typically read graphic novels but this was had such an interesting synopsis that I had to jump in and read it. I enjoyed it and look forward to reading more in the series.
I was provided with an electronic ARC through NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
