I just could not get into this book as hard as I tried and I finally had to quit reading it so it is a DNF. Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. I have read other books by this author and really enjoyed them.
A heartbreaking story told by Rachel Edwards after handing herself into the police she is giving her version of the last few months of her life and what she believes she has done. It moves between Rachel, and the statements of her friends and family to the police. It’s a compelling psychological thriller I struggled to put down. This is the second book I have read by Susie and I will certainly be looking to read more.
Thus is the first book I read from this author and I love it. The theme is very intriguing and the story didn’t disappointed. Who never felt invisible at least once in our lives? The characters are very well developed and engaging and the plot well wrapped to an unexpected ending. I would definitely recommend this book and looking forward to read another book from this author.
An interesting take on a thriller. Rachel is a wife and mother. She feels, like many mothers, unseen. Her children look past her, her husband ignores her. At the same time, the rise of violence and crime in her area are on the rise, especially with knife crimes. ... Rachel start to suspect herself.
Interspersed with interviews with police, her family and with a psychologist, this book looks at mental health in a different and compelling way.
SE Lynes is an exciting writer and I can't wait to read what's next.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Another great book by this author. She has such a knack of creating real characters and every book is so different. I could completely relate to the main character in this story and read with bated breath while her story unravelled, hoping that I'd got it wrong. Which I had, because there's a great twist or two thrown in to shatter all your theories!
Unfortunately for me, I just could not engage with this story, it may be because of things in the world, but I just couldn’t engage with the characters despite picking this one up and putting it back down then coming back to it.
Apologies, but this story is just not for me.
Can You See Her? is a painstaking story of what we had to face in consequence when we let anger or resentment beat the best of us until it succumbs us down and dominates us entirely.
I will admit it, I had cried really ugly while preparing meals today and had to endure it for a while since my mom looking at my direction and continues went she left. If I don't have my shirt sleeve to shed tears, then I might run out of tissues. All I want is to weep and left my shirt soaking wet. It's incredibly touching.
The story itself makes it unputdownable since page one. Even the language left out a piercing into my soul and touch my every sense. Simply because it was grim and realistic. And believe me, any woman with a motherly heart would felt that with her whole heart, if she has given the book it's chances as the pace slightly slow.
I also loved the dedication and consideration the author inserts into her stories and in every line, making those that still and forever struggle to feel better even a bit, therefore able to take hold of their life and resurrect from their suffering. It's not easy and you are forever strong.
I would recommend this to anyone who wants to engross herself into the aftereffect of tragic events, to feel their pain and struggle to cope with their surroundings and know that there's a way to get through.
DNF @ 20% - This book has such good reviews, I might give it an other try in the future, but I just can't follow it. The writing is so jumpy, between past and present, and between different character interviews. I have 3 kids and I feel like this book needs more dedicated focus than I can give at the moment.
Amazing story and read! From the very first page this book captured my attention. It weaves so many tales of death, murder and despair that you can barely catch your breath. Each page reveals another shocking revelation, with a superb twist at the end. Absolutely must read!

Special thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for providing me with ARC.
This is the first novel to me by S.E.Lynes but it's so boring and not fit for me. I take too much time to get into it but really I didn't enjoy it at all.
The cover is good and I love it.
Wow Susie Lynes, you are one heck of a storyteller! Regular readers of her books will know how clever her stories are and how real her characters are. With Can You See Her? You will get this all and more. A twisty and shocking psychological thriller that kept me up reading way past my bedtime. Thank you Susie, I really needed this book 🤗
I do not want to go into too much detail about the plot, you really need to read it and see for yourself. Basically it the story of Rachel Edwards, a mother and wife who is feeling under appreciated. She feels like her family don’t see her unless she doesn’t do something for them. Her kids are grown up and don’t need her as much anymore and her husband is spending more time with the new neighbour than her. It is her struggle to find her way in life as it is now. We hear from Rachel as well as police interviews with the other key characters. What happened??
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for my advanced copy of this book to read. All opinions are my own and are in no way biased
As soon as I saw there was a new S.E. Lynes book- well I had to have it! She always delivers a twisted thriller that I can't get out of my mind. This one was a bit of a slow build however, it did deliver in the end!
Rachel is struggling...she seems well a bit...umm disgruntled, perhaps unstable. Or is it just menopause?! HAHA as a nurse I really was trying to dig deep to see what was going on with Rachel. Her internal feelings of anger would boil up as she felt her husband and kids paid her no attention. Hey Rach girl- I feel ya! I know we all feel like that from time to time- yet Rachel had it bad.
I must admit I began to question Rachel's sanity as she was convinced that her husband Mark was cheating on her with ...well everyone. Her new neighbor, her BFF. Was Mark really this low or was Rachel just delusional? Or was it just a matter of getting older and feeling less self worth?
As we found out Rachel had an obsession with crimes...dark, twisted crimes...hmmm things got interesting. Even more so when I began to wonder if Rachel had a hand in these crimes.
In typical S.E. Lynes fashion, we get a big, twisted end with this one- that I never saw coming. Even though I enjoyed this one, The Proposal is still hands down my favorite!
This was another book I just couldn’t get into. I felt like it took a long time to really get into the story & the only part of the story that I actually found interesting was the very end when everything started to come together. I did enjoy the ending & I was surprised by it. I did like how the story switched between telling Rachel’s side of the story, & the testimony from Rachel’s husband & daughter, their neighbor Ingrid, & Rachel’s friend Lisa. I also liked the whole mental health stand point of this book. As somebody who works with psych patients, it truly is amazing to see how the human brain works & how things such as grief can have an effect on someone. For anybody who is interested in mental health, I definitely think you should check out this book!
This is a psychological thriller in a different way. For the first one third I couldn’t get a grasp of the plot. There is a lot of rambling and details, the plot actually picks up after about 60%. The story line is very good, the take home message is excellent and need of the day, for which I am giving 4.5 stars. The blurb is nowhere near the plot. I have mixed feelings about this book.
Excellent thriller about a grief stricken woman dealing with mental illness. Covering a variety of important topics, this book is original and a great read. When grief stricken Rachel begins to have large gaps in her memory she begins to fear she has committed some horrific crimes that have occurred in her small neighborhood. As she has started to feel invisible, and is barely talking to her family she becomes more and more depressed. I have read several books by S.E. Lyons and this has been my favorite by far. Intriguing, heart wrenching and an excellent mystery. I would give more than five stars if possible. One of my favorites this year. Highly recommend.
I hoped to enjoy this book more, but I thought it rambled on a lot, and it took me some time to finish it. This was not a read I couldn’t put down or read in one or two sittings. Good plot line, interesting characters, but I wished events had moved on a little faster. Rachel has confessed to some neighborhood murders, and takes her sweet time explaining things. After about 60% through the story, things became much more interesting, and there were a couple of very unexpected revelations, especially one right at the end. I have a great deal of sympathy for people, especially women, with MH issues. I didn’t find it very clear at the beginning, and that kept me a little frustrated while reading. It was like watching a spool unwinding, albeit very slowly, Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
The story centres around Rachel Edwards, mother of two late-teenage children, and wife of Mark. As she battles the menopause, and the mediocrity that comes with “domestic bliss”, Rachel understandably feels invisible, unappreciated and terrifyingly alone. Clearly struggling with her mental health, Rachel finds herself becoming increasingly obsessed with the local crime stories, and it soon becomes clear she may have a more pivotal role to play in the recent spate of stabbings than originally thought.
What follows is one woman’s battle to make sense of her world, her life and her changing self and balancing that against the people she loves, and the damage we all cause to one another.
Having never read anything by SE Lynes before, but only hearing positive things, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. All I can say is that this was a brilliant read. Although, in places, it was a little slow, it wasn’t difficult to keep reading, and actually, I think the book lends itself to a less-pacey style.
I instantly warmed to Rachel, and really have to commend the author for the way this was written. The changes in perspective, the now versus the past, and the transcripts with other characters, really gave this a depth that would have been lacking with any other approach. Absolutely brilliant, and deeply thought provoking on many levels.
This will undoubtedly not be the last book I read by this author!
The Stars: A brilliant 5 stars – a very enjoyable and well written book.
Well, what can I say about this book? Very much doubt my review could even come close to doing this complex but compelling story, the justice it deserves.
The story clicks between the main story and interviews that have been carried out in the police station. To start with, I was intrigued as to the why’s of everything that is going on. Rachel is a very complex character who I was desperate to know more about to try and better understand what was happening.
I had absolutely no clue where this story was heading. The more I read the more gripped I became as the story unfolds with some seriously twisted revelations. The more I got to know Rachel, the more empathy I had for her even though I found it frustrating that she couldn’t quite remember things. Mainly because I had to wait for the author to then reveal them and I’m not the most patient of people. Of course this had me racing through the pages for what I have to say is one ultimate reading climax!
Can You See Her? is one mess with your head read. It’s a story that will make you sit back and reflect on what a very clever story line it is. No idea where the author gets her ideas from but this is one stand out novel that deserves the highest of praise. Phenomenal read!
I really loved this book, I did love the beginning to middle more however and nearing the end I just wanted it to be over because I had it figured out pretty much. Originally, . In the beginning of the book I thought it was going to be one of my best reads of 2020, and it still may be. I love how S.E. Lynes writes. Very clever.
This. book is about Rachel, middle aged with two kids, one off to college, Keiron and one taking a year off before starting college, Katie and her husband Mark. She seems to have a great relationship with her son, a terrible relationship with her daughter and her husband has seemingly lost all interest in her. And it's no wonder she has really let herself go.
It starts out with Rachel either in a psych ward or prison for multiple murders, mostly stabbings. She is talking to a forensic psychiatrist through the whole book and she's very humorous and also very confused. Before the psych ward or prison, Rachel liked to take walks and connect with strangers, who wind up dead. And Rachel has confessed to the murders.
The book has excerpts of interviews of police questioning Rachel's neighbor, best friend Lisa, her husband and daughter throughout and it seems something is really wrong with Rachel and they are trying to find out why she's confessed to all these murders of people she seemingly liked.
The book was really I interesting for me and going somewhere, but I figured out tho who, when and why before the end of the book or halfway through, which was a shame because I really would've liked to have been surprised.
I want to give the book 4 stars for the first half and 3 for the second half of the book but I very well cant, can I? So I am giving it a 3.5 rounded up to 4 for the sheer enjoyment it gave me in the beginning. It does have a twist at the end. Will you figure it out? It's worth a try and if you have more than Ohhh 5 brain cells, you will.
Special thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture Publishing for this ARC copy in return for my honest review. Also thanks to S.E. Lynes, a wonderful author. I would love to read her past and future works.
