N. J. Croft https://njcroft.com is the author of eight novels. The Lost Tomb was published in 2020 and is the second book in his Lost series.

Due to scenes of violence and mature language, I categorize this novel as R. Major Noah Blakey, head of an elite anti-terrorist unit, is the primary character.

His ex-wife is reported killed in remote Mongolia. She was an archaeologist who had been looking for the tomb of Genghis Khan. Blakely goes to investigate her death. He soon finds himself and his three children in danger.

After the death of Genghis Kahn, a group of devout followers dedicate themselves to keeping his tomb hidden. Descendants of Kahn want to fulfill the prophecy he made at his death to expand his empire and dominate the world. All they need is a missing artifact from the tomb.

Blakely finds himself caught between these deadly factions. The line between history and myth becomes blurred the closer he gets to the truth.

I enjoyed the 8+ hours I spent reading this 281-page thriller. This novel is a very smooth read and includes history, action, suspense, and intrigue. I will be looking for any future novels by this author. I like the chosen cover art, and I give this novel a rating of 5 out of 5.

I really enjoyed this book, and I really hope the author continues with these characters in more stories! This book is about a man who is the head of an elite anti-terrorist unit, who is tasked with hunting down the people responsible for a series of seemingly random acts of terror. However, these acts all point to a prophecy regarding the Lost Tomb of Ghengis Khan, and an ancient prophecy made by him on his deathbed.
Lots of well written characters and scenery, and an intriguing plot make this a great read!

I do not recall reading anything from NJ Croft before but this book was really good. This story is a bit about history and revenge. Noah finds out his ex-wife was killed while looking for relics. He goes after who might have killed her but in the adventure of finding the killer he comes across a lot more than just killers. He comes across an ancient feud.

I really found myself interested in the feud and how it could affect us. And then I started to wonder what, if any, of the history might be true.

A very interesting read.

This is the first time in reading this author with the story line catching my eye. Reading murder more often than not lately is what does happen in this so that is in part the intrigue of this one. Things on tombs have always been a fascination so that added to it. Major Noah is interesting character whom does pull at the heart strings. When things spiral to the point he can not ignore no longer he has to have the answers to his wife's murder. With the task at hand and help from another the race is on to find or dire circumstances. Riveting is one word to describe but also a challenging escape.

This book is steeped with intrigue, complex characters and an intense story line. I was sucked in from the very beginning. Is anyone who they seem to be? Is this mission completely impossible? Who's to be trusted? Yep, pretty much all the tenets of good suspense are played and played well in this book.

Noah - typical alpha male fighting the good fight for all the right reasons even when it costs him his family. He's lost his wife, first to divorce, and now to death. Star - who is she and what does she really want? Eve - what was she really up to? Uncle Peter, aka General Blakeley, the one man Noah can trust. Right?

I thoroughly enjoyed this story and all the twists and turns. I did hate that Noah wasn't a more hands on father but I'll trust Croft on this. I'm not very knowledgeable on Genghis Khan but Croft's inclusion of his history rang very true to real life or at least well written fiction.

I recommend this book to lovers of intrigue and suspense.

A well-written, imaginative, and very fast-paced thriller combining politics (and political terrorism) with history and archaeology. An admirable protagonist capably maintains the focus and makes the plot's events believable, even when the evidence of both conspiracy and evil become apparent.

The Lost tomb by NJ Croft is a well written fictional story, strong characters and has got a good history spun to it. Reading through the chapters reminded me of the Mummy 3 movie (tomb of the dragon empire, the one with Jet Li, Brendon Fraser). The story line is similar to the movie, except this novel brings real history of Gengis khan, real horrors of terrorism and the life of Major Noah and his archeologist ex-wife. Starts off good and a real page turner. I wanted to know what was gonna happen! Towards the end, Noah puts together the puzzle pieces, and finds himself in a prophecy like battle, which was a true wow moment for me! Loved how the author has penned down a military Major’s mindset on an archeological research. Don’t miss this Indiana Jones meets Mummy 3 book.
Thank you NetGalley, NJ Croft and Sideways Books for reader’s copy of this novel. This review is my own opinion and was not influenced in any way!

An exciting adventure read, The Lost Tomb follows on from the prequel novella The Lost Spear. Terrorist hunter Major Noah Blakeley is shattered when notified of his ex-wife's death. An archaeologist, Eve was searching for the lost tomb of Genghis Khan when she died in a plane crash, and Noah is not convinced it was an accident. With the help of a computer expert that was on the case with Eve, Noah traces her route through Russia to Mongolia, looking for the people that murdered her. Noah finds that nothing is as it seems, and doesn't know who he can trust. As things escalate Noah finds her death is linked to terrorist activity, and something huge is about to go down.

I really enjoyed this book, great characters, an interesting plot line, and a faction intent on taking over the world, what's not to like? With many twists and turns, this book will keep you glued to the pages, the hallmark of a good thriller. I'll be looking out for the next book in the series, and I have no hesitation in recommending it to lovers of adventure thrillers.

My thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A direct continuation from The Lost Spear we get Noah, Eve’s ex husband, on the hunt. Trying to solve what happened to her and a more personal mission. Somehow his work in anti terrorism is related to Eve’s search for Genghis Khan’s tomb. It’s very cloak and dagger with the adventure, history and spies. An intriguing storyline with something for everyone. I recommend reading the prequel to understand the reasoning and character development. I received my copy through Netgalley and this review was written voluntarily.

You know you're onto a winning book when you're ready to rip the bad guys head off! And with this book I really wanted to be the one to deck them!

Noah is a brilliant soldier and one of the best when it comes to undercover work. But it had an impact on his family and he and Eve finally just drifted too far apart. But with her death on a flight to Russia of all place, he has to step up and become the family man he never thought he was cut out to be.

But with a new job in London, fraught dynamics with his grieving children and Landed Gentry for ex-inlaws, Noah has a lot to deal with at one time. But he is soon up to his eyeballs in an investigation into Eve's death. It just doesn't add up. When anonymous emails arrive stating that Eve was murdered, Noah has no choice but to get to the bottom of things.

I read this in one go, I just couldn't put down the intricate story, I'd have forgotten some ital clue to the identity of the Big Bad. There were more than a few WTH moments. Not least when you realise the duplicitous web Noah and co have been caught up in!

I cannot wait to see what treasures this weird new "family" is going after next!

He is a heir apparent to the style of Clive cussler.. I recommend it for those who like his novels.

To say that this novel is a wild roller coaster of adventure is an understatement. I barely stopped to sleep while reading it! I love this tale of the lost tomb of Ghengis Khan, and the legend of the people protecting his tomb. I fell for Noah and Eve, the two main heroes of the tale. They’re both strong and ridiculously resilient, and they both know exactly what needs to be done. I’ll definitely be reading more by this author in the future!
