Victoria Gilbert has done it again! I got sucked into Booked for Death: A Book Lover's B&B Mystery. Charlotte has inherited her Aunt Isabelle's home, which also happens to be "Chapters" a book lovers bed and breakfast which caters to groups who are interested in a week of fun focused on a certain author or genre. In this first installment, (can't wait for the next Book Lover's B&B Mystery!), guests are booked for a crime author's week full of mystery and fun gatherings. However, one of the guests soon becomes the victim of homicide, and Charlotte falls into the task of sleuthing this mystery, to clear her name, and her friends, as well as keeping her B&B open and her guests happy. I really enjoyed Victoria Gilbert's story of Charlotte, her friends, and her neighbor Ellen who has a secret of her own. Well written, with an unexpected twist at the end! Thank You to Victoria Gilbert, Crooked Lane Books, and NetGalley for the ARC of Booked for Death: A Book Lover's B&B Mystery, it was a joy to read!

Beaufort, North Carolina in an old historic home now a bed and breakfast named Chapters is the setting for this delightful mystery. A literary themed weekend has been planned, guests have checked in and in costume. A murder takes place...which of the guests is the murderer. Charlotte , the owner of Chapters, is determined to solve the mystery. But in so doing she unlocks a mystery around her great aunt who left her the home.
Loved the setting, colorful characters and lots of twists and turns. Two mysteries in one: who is the murderer and what is the mystery surrounding Charlotte’s great aunt.’s past life.
,

Booked for Death is beautifully written with a charming setting,a place I'd love too be. Even with a killer on the loose.
Charlotte, the owner of Chapters B and B and amateur sleuth
is a likable character.
The author was great at making me hate the murder victIm.
Each of the other characters had a great reason for wanting him dead.
Just when I thought I solved it. The author threw in exciting twist and turns witch had me guessing until the end. Look forward to reading the next book in the series.
I received this book from netgalley for a honest review.

Loved this new series! First time to have read from this author, and look forward to reading more!
Charlotte Reed, a young widow, inherits the Chapters-Bed- and-Breakfast in a historic waterfront town of Beaufort, North Carolina. Lover of books and delighted to continue her great aunts literary retreats and book clubs. A rare book dealer that has come to one of the retreats is murdered and Charlotte sets out to find the murderer.
Does she find out more than she intends?
Don't miss out on this wonderful book due out in June!
Thank you to publisher and NetGalley for the eARC

Really great start to a new series! This is a fun story, with the backstory woven slowly in. I was surprised by the ending, as I had thought it was going in a different direction, but it was a pleasant surprise! Really fun book and I can't wait for more in the series!

This is my first book of this author. I love mysteries and cozy mysteries and I read the synopsis and I though: this has all the ingredients to hook me up. The mystery factor, the metaliterary element… Yeah, well… It didn’t get me. I am not saying the book is bad, maybe it was me, but I didn’t connect with the characters. It was, for me, as if they had a very interesting story to tell but didn’t have the right voice to do it. Technically, there is nothing wrong with the book, but it seemed to me it lacked soul.
If I don’t find a strong element to criticise, I don’t like to give low rated reviews to books. Sometimes the lack of connection is a question of moment of life or state of mind. You know, the “it is not you, it is me”.
Well, it didn’t work for us.

My Review
Victoria Gilbert has done it again! A Winner!
The characters are well-written and enjoyable. The storyline is believe and the type of cozy mystery that keeps you interested until the very end. This book was provided in exchange for my honest opinion. A newly renovated Bed and Breakfast inherited by Charlotte brings only trouble when someone points the finger at her and accuses her of murder. Can Charlotte solve the mystery before she ends up in jail or before she meets her own demise? It’s the type of story you definitely want to read if you enjoy a great cozy mystery. Highly recommend Booked for Death.

Charlotte owns a b&b called Chapters. when someone is murdered she sets out to find the killer. While investigating she finds some interesting information about her aunt. Love reading this series.

I really enjoyed the book. I liked the setting of the B & B, it has a great deal of potential.

From the moment I saw the vibrant colors on the cover, I knew this book was going to be a winner.
Charlotte Reed is an interesting character, I am looking forward to getting to know her.
Charlotte inherited her great aunts B & B, Chapters, that caters to book lovers. Located in a quaint town in North Carolina, Chapters is having a celebration of author Josephine Tey. The guests are quite unique, and excitement brews when a guest is found, dead, a victim of murder.
The suspect list is long, and Charlotte feels the pull to investigate.
Charlotte isn’t alone in her adventure, she has her housekeeper and cook, Alicia, her friend Julia, and her next door neighbor.
It seems everyone has a reason to kill the victim, including Charlotte herself. Was this a simple random act, or is Charlotte sharing her home with a murderer?

I had fun reading this first book in a new series. The writing is solid and the characters are fun. I love the setting... A B&B in North Carolina that caters to book lovers. I'm really looking forward to the next book in the series.

This was a fun book to read with some different character personalities. Learning about the past was interesting and helpful in determining who the killer was. The idea of the bed and breakfast and guests for book discussions is appealing. This is a light, fun and wuick read.

I had a hard time getting into this book. I don't know why but I just couldn't relate to the characters, and I didn't find the majority of the book interesting, it just felt slow. I did enjoy the reveal of the killer, the reasons for the killing is quite clever. #BookedforDeath #NetGalley

As newly widowed Charlotte Reed is throwing her first book themed event at the huge B&B she inherited from her aunt in Beaufort, SC, a guest is killed and the victims daughter accuses her of murder.
The start of a successful series, I’m looking forward to the next adventure.

Charlotte Reed is a fairly young widow who inherited a B&B in North Carolina from a late aunt. She's using it to further her love of books, by hosting events centering around just that - books and authors. While she has an assorted group of people staying for one of Golden Age mystery of author Josephine Tey's books, it can't be labeled a success -- not when one of the guests turns up dead during a costume party.
It turns out that the guest was not well-liked by anyone, including his wife and daughter, but who hated him enough to kill him? With her reputation at stake - and a possible murderer in her home - what is Charlotte to do except try and find the person who did the deed...unless she's no longer alive to tell the truth to anyone...
This is the first in a new series and as such I was really looking forward to reading it; and I always welcome new books by seasoned authors, but this one just didn't completely cut it for me. The book isn't bad, by any account; in fact, it's a decent start, and I do love the idea of a B&B that caters to book lovers. Anyone who reads would love it.
While I enjoyed the character of Charlotte, she seemed to have a rather bland personality. I get that she was the owner of a B&B, but she wasn't always so. She just seemed to have one of those personalities of people you meet and then forget all about them the minute you leave. There was no spark to her, if you will. She, of course, has the innate curiosity that's expected; and she's also trying to find out more about her great-aunt Isabella, who left the house to her; more so because the murder victim hinted that Isabella may have acquired her extensive and valuable library illegally, and Charlotte is determined to find out if it's the truth. But when she starts looking, the truth is a lot stranger than she expects.
Now, I'm not saying it's not believable, I'm just saying for myself, I found it a bit far-fetched in the long run. While it's entirely possible, the entire plot just didn't seem to strike a chord for me, and because of this, it tampered my enjoyment a tad. However, it's a decent start to a new book and others will probably find it more their cup of tea than I did.

Fun cozy mystery set in Beaufort NC. Our heroine owns Chapters Bed and Breakfast and is hosting a retreat when unexpectedly one of the guests is murdered in her carriage house. What I liked about this book is EVERYONE is a suspect, close friends, colleagues, etc. There is a big of mysterious backstory revealed that also interjects a unique take on the cozy mystery. I also enjoyed the book reviews within the context of the book - it made me seek out some titles I probably would not ordinarily read.

When Charlotte Reed inherits her Great Aunt’s B&B in Beaufort she has a chance to start over somewhere new after her husbands death. While hosting a literary themed event, one of the guests is murdered and there are plenty of suspects, including g Charlotte and her staff. To clear her name and those of her friends, Charlotte and her next door neighbor team up to figure out who would want the man dead. Now Charlotte. Weds to figure it out before she becomes the next victim.
A solid whodunit that will have you longing for the next book before you even figure out the mystery.
