I enjoyed this well written, suspenseful story! It was hard to put down, as I sought to figure out what was going on with the mystery.

Jane Hardy's life has been utterly disrupted. Almost immediately after taking over as Chief of Police for Pelican Harbor, her department was rocked by scandel. For the first time in her adult life, Jane thought she was falling in love... until she discovered that Reid had been hiding the truth about who he really was. And if that wasnt enough already, she learned her father had been lying to her most of her life.

This was the second book in a series that follows Jane, a small town police chief. Recently reunited with her son and former partner, she has been working hard as the only member of her police department. She gets two new officers just in time for an attack on their small town.

This was a fast paced book with a lot of action. It had been a while since I read the first in the series, but that didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the story, or understanding the relationships between characters.

Excited to read the third and final book soon!

I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review

This is the first book I’ve read in the Pelican Harbor series. The author has done a great job of setting up a suspenseful read. There is lots of action and you are drawn into the story from the beginning. I wish I had read the first book in the series before starting this one. Though it’s too late for me to do so, I would encourage you to read the books in order.

Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson for my advanced review copy. All opinions and thoughts are my own.

Jane Hardy is back and better than ever! Adrenaline fueled pace with a nice build to the romance. Love seeing the relationships develop over the series. Jane is trying to learn how to forgive, a concept that I struggle with and found drew me deeper into the story. It was great visiting Pelican Harbor again.

A great story by Colleen Coble. This is a great addition to the series as always and I cannot wait for more.

Fast paced suspense novel that I can think I may have gotten more out of it if I had read the books in order instead of starting with book two.

Jane Hardy, police chief, tries to solve a murder investigation and find out who is planning to attack the Gulf Coast oil platform where it occurred. It becomes much more difficult when her son’s life is threatened. Good mystery, plenty of action, nice balance of thriller and Christian fiction. Second book in the series. A lot of the relationship and family back story happened in the first book, and it’s not summarized early or well here. Probably more enjoyable for readers of the first book.

This is book 2 of the Pelican Bay Series. Police Chief Jane Hardy is just starting to put her life back together after she discovered that her son is actually alive. Now, she must work with her ex to save her son and stop an environmental catastrophe. Can they set aside their differences or will the past destroy everything?

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

I have been waiting on this book! I was able to read and review the first book in this series, One Little Lie, and I was thrilled to read and review Two Reasons to Run. And just as expected, this story had me on the edge of my seat throughout most of it! I will say this is not a stand alone, book 2 continues the storyline from book one, so it’s better to read them in order or you will be spending a lot of time trying to figure out all out.

Against her better judgement, Jane and Reid are thrown together in a new case that has them spending a lot of time together. Where Will loves this, it has to be difficult for Jane. I’m not sure I could have looked at him after what he did! There are quite a few characters to keep up with, but the way the story flows, it’s not a problem. And author Colleen Coble has her way of teasing her readers just enough to keep the mystery and suspense going. For me, this one was pretty easy to figure out, but I had to keep reading toward the finale to know how everything was going down. This is probably not my favorite of Colleen’s books but as far as the writing, it was right up there with the rest of the phenomenal writing skills we always see from Ms. Coble.

This is a book that you mystery and suspense buff out there will love. I highly recommend you give this one a try, but make sure you read book one first. Two Reasons to Run is a 5 plus stars for me! Wish I could give it more!

A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

Two Reasons to Run

by Colleen Coble

I have to admit that in the middle of a complicated transition (i.e. I moved), I had forgotten that One Little Lie was Colleen Coble’s first book in The Pelican Harbor Series, and I had read it. Going into the second book of the series, Two Reasons to Run, was indeed like reading it as a standalone. I had a few confused moments along the way, but the plot is compelling and Coble is a good storyteller. I was able and motivated to push through my mental rough spots.

Jane Hardy, Pelican Harbor’s police chief, has reunited with her teenage son Will. Will’s father Reid had escaped from a cult with him many years ago, but Jane had been told her son was dead. The plot involves Jane’s and Reid’s efforts to overcome the past and re-establish relationships with various family members. Meanwhile, Jane is asked by a grieving mother to investigate her son’s death on an oil rig. Can Jane avert a terrorist plot without losing her life or risking the safety of those she loves?

The pace is quick, the characters are believable, and the oil rig setting in the Gulf is interesting. The cult background and a hired killer make the intrigue even more complicated. The questions center around who is behind the plot, what motivates the terrorist, and how he tries to achieve his goal. The answers rest in Jane’s strength and determination and Reid’s love for Will and Jane and his faith in God.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Rating: 5/5

Category: Mystery & Thriller, Christian

Notes: #2 in The Pelican Harbor Series, but can be read as a standalone.

Publication: September 8, 2020—Thomas Nelson

Memorable Lines:

No excuses, no rationalizations. His naked sorrow over his behavior touched the sore places of her heart with a soothing balm.

White pickups were as plentiful as shrimp here…

“I know, I know. I’m struggling with it too. But God doesn’t want us to live in fear, honey. At some point you have to have some faith in God’s provision.”

Jane and Reid have a past together and a son together. It's complicated and it gets more complicated when they are forced to work together to solve a murder and a terrorist plot to blow up an oil rig.

Colleen Coble does romantic suspense very well. This book can operate as a stand alone but I feel like it would be better to read the first book in the series before reading this one. As well, there is a slight cliffhanger at the end of this book that needs to be handled in the third book of the series.

A big thank you to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. I believe that this is part of a series. I did not read the first book. In some ways this reads well as a stand alone, but in others it is very confusing. The relationship between the main characters is confusing. I found this to be more like a soap opera and romance then a mystery. The mystery takes up about 1/3 of the book-the rest is confusing and sort of mind boggling. I liked Will but found the chemistry between Jane and Reid to be odd. I don't know-I don't think this book was for me. Although I found it interesting-I don't think I will read the 3rd book to find out what happens next. 3 stars.

I enjoyed the first book in this series very much and was excited to continue the story of Jane and Reid in this second book. I definitely recommend reading this series in order because even though the crimes are separate, the personal lives of the characters continue from the first book. I liked learning more about Jane and Reid and liked how the plot developed more on their relationship and their past. I liked that the romance is realistic both in the timeline and the feelings of the characters. Although I thought there were a few slower moments in the middle of the story, the suspense took off in the last few chapters and the book finished strong! I cannot wait for the next book and the final conclusion to the series! I recommend this series to those who enjoy contemporary suspense!

I received a complimentary ecopy of this book from Netgalley and Thomas Nelson Publishers. Opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

So this is book 2 in a trilogy. I did read the first book, and this basically picks up where the first book left off, with our heroine Chief Jane Hardy, who is trying to put together a complicated relationship with her recently returned 15 year old son and her estranged love interest Reid. Jane is handed the case of a missing oil rigger who was apparently acting extremely paranoid before he disappeared. While this isn’t her jurisdiction, Jane agrees to follow up with it since the the missing rigger’s mother is a friend of Jane’s. Jane and Reid soon find the rigger’s body tied to the rig, and it becomes apparent that his death was no simple accidental drowning. With few witnesses willing to cooperate, Reid and Jane embark on their own to dig up evidence, but it becomes apparent that they are becoming a focus of the same people who targeted the unfortunate rigger, Keith. This story picks up steam in the last 1/3 of the book, and is quite a nail biter. There is a competing storyline with the fraught relationship with Reid and Jane, and I can say I am definitely team Reid. I am rooting for these two to end up together. One more book in the trilogy and it’s already out, so I will have to look it up to see how this story ends. Review posted to Goodreads, Amazon, Litsy, LibraryThing, and Facebook

A fast-paced read that pulls the hero and heroine into a race to stop an environmental disaster. Still trying to determine how they feel about each other after rediscovering each other in the first book, Jane and Reid need each other to solve the murder of a man who worked on the Zeus oil platform. All along, the plot is twisting to a point where it's hard to know who to trust, and who is not who they appear. Loved it!

Installment two of Coble's latest was a continuation of the story of Jane, Reid, and Will. It is an interesting situation the three of them are living in and I was glad to get a few questions from book 1 answered, but there are still a lot of questions in my mind.

The mystery in this book was interesting. It was fairly drawn out and involve quite a few people. It was interesting how it played out. I wasn't surprised by who was behind it all - but didn't really have it figured out either.

I was a little disappointed to not get much romance in this book. I would like for book three to bring some romantic closure to this series.

If you like tense mystery books this is a good one.

I received an advanced copy of this book through NetGalley. This is my honest review.

With Jane and Reid working against time to stop an oil platform from being blown up these is there is lots of action and many lives at stake. Danger lurking everywhere and little time to follow the evidence. I liked that she found out more about her past and how her son is now in her future. Family, job, romance and mystery! I really enjoyed the multiple story lines going on here.

Two Reasons to Run, the second installment from the Pelican Harbor series. It is exactly what readers would expect from Colleen Coble. It is so very good. Five plus stars.
