Compelling and original, a tiny bit bonkers (in the best way) with enough realistic characterization to make you feel like this COULD HAPPEN. Those are my favorite kind of stories! I always enjoy Mark Edwards books.
I liked that this book was interesting & I never really felt like there was a dull moment, something new was always happening. The chapters are fairly short & it didn’t take long for the story to get exciting. This was one of those books that always kept you guessing and kept you on the edge of your seat. The ending was very intense and I just couldn’t put it down! I also liked that at the end of the book, it walked you through everything and that’s where all the pieces came together.
Always enjoy reading a new Mark Edwards book. As a follow up to the five star rated "Here To Stay", Mark has delivered a solid four star effort. The first half of the story builds suspense nicely but becomes a bit unrealistic towards the end and it seems like the conclusion was a bit rushed. It's possible that the subject matter just did not appeal to me.
Still I enjoy Mark's writing style and believe that he is one of the most talented authors in the psychological thriller field today. I know that I will be reading his next effort for sure!
No one is what they seem.
Housesitting and a stranger. This is The House Guest by Mark Edwards.
Adam, Ruth, and Eve are the main characters. I didn’t care for the character of Ruth, a wanna be actress. She came across as a cold person, and I just couldn’t develop any concern for her. I did like Adam and his determination to solve the mystery. Eden is the mysterious house guest, and I did like her character even with all her secrets. I liked the way the author wrote the characters of Mona and Jack. They came across as a care free older married couple enjoying the life. There were several sleazy characters in the story, and the author did a good job at having you dislike them almost immediately before even having a chance to see what their character was like.
The book wasn’t really suspenseful for me. Yes, I was curious where the author was going, but it never reached that level of suspense that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Having said that, the book was a well written mystery, the plot was easy to follow, and an enjoyable read.
The last 1/4 of the book took off, and there was some great action going on. The ending was a kicker. His books always have great endings and gives you that “whaaaat” feeling.
Thanks to Mark Edwards, NetGalley, and Thomas & Mercer Publishing for the opportunity to read and review this ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ARC.
Another great book by Mark Edwards, twists and turns all the way through. Really wasn't sure how this one was going to end.
This was a good fast paced read keeping you guessing till the end.
Mark Edwards has done it again! In this newest book he has managed to make us readers read at the speed of lightning to keep the pages turning and turning so we can finally know what happens. The suspense was very strong and the unique. I loved the storyline as well as each character. Twists, turns, surprises, this book has it all!! By the end of the book you’re still left with a lingering thought of what to truly believe.
Thank you for the chance to read this ahead of time and I look forward to many more books by you!
Mark Edwards has once again kept me on the edge of my seat!
This page turner had me guessing and asking so many questions and never really knowing the answers until the end! The characters were amazing and so perfectly written and I felt like I could see every detail of the house and surrounding area. This is real life kind of scary and I think I might be nervous the next time someone knocks on my door!
Just like all his other books, I could not put this one down! Highly recommend!
A very absorbing book. Takes on the subject of recruiting for a sect. Makes you very aware of the dangerous side of these people. This book kept me reading from the first page. Full of the unexpected. Thank you Mark Edwards and NetGalley for my preview copy of this book.
It was supposed to be a special treat. House sitting for some new friends while embarking on a new aspect of a career. What could possibly go wrong? Mark Edwards takes a seemingly everyday situation and turns it into one with worrisome outcomes resulting from unclear motivations.
Mark will introduce characters that both calm and confuse you. And even those you think you have figured out will surprise you. Pay close attention to every character, as each one will provide some relationship to the eventual outcome of the story.
I loved how Mark managed the suspense throughout the book. Just as you reach a turning point in one part of the story, he will move to another part of the interwoven story. The House Guest is a book that is difficult to put down because you feel compelled to find resolution.
Thank you @netgalley and @amazonpublishing for this amazing ARC 🥰❤️

Review:
Okay this book is everything 🙌🏽 I love it and it was such a fascinating read throughout. I have to admit, it started slow for me in the beginning. I almost gave up 😅 but I was reading this along with @thethrillerqueeen ❤️❤️ We had so much fun reading this together 🥰
It’s face paced once you’re into the book and the plot unfolds. This book has a lot of shock factors and twists that the reader will love and you won’t be able to put it down. I can’t really say anything besides you have to read this book and see for yourself 😅🙌🏽❤️ I love how everything blends and goes together. One thing that I will say is WOW 🤯 mind blown. This is my first book by @markedwardsauthor and I can’t wait to read his other reads. I will give it book 4 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
What would you do if a stranger knocked on your door in the middle of a thunderstorm, this is the dilemma facing Adam and Ruth who are housesitting in New York for their friends Mona and Jack . The first mistake they make is to invite this stranger in to dry off, their second mistake is to invite her to stay,. After a night of heavy drinking Adam wakes to find that Ruth has disappeared.what follows is a nail biting story of lies and deceit . Another great psychological read from Mark Edwards
As always, Mark Edwards does it again. From the very beginning I was drawn in by the characters, desperately wanting to know more, trying to determine the ending of the book. I'm never right. I was completely captivated and so entranced that at one point I actually caught myself gasping out loud. Always a sign of a great author when I am totally enthralled. As usual with every twist and turn I loved the ride. True to his style, just when you think it's over and you've figured it out......it's not.....and you're so wrong.
Thanks to Netgalley and Amazon Publishing UK for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Ruth and Adam are a British couple housesitting in NYC for Mona and Jack, a couple they met on a recent cruise. Eden, a woman who claims to know Mona and Jack arrives on the doorstep, and Ruth and Adam foolishly ask her to stay. Then Ruth and Eden disappear. When Mona and Jack return, they insist they don't know anyone named Eden.
This was a page turner. It held my interest throughout. I found Adam's quest to find out where Ruth was and what happened to her to be fast paced and I wanted to keep reading to find out what the heck was going on. I gave this a 4 rather than a 5 because I thought the ending and how everything played out and the various motivations of the characters to be a little tough to follow and somewhat far-fetched. Still a worthwhile read in my opinion.
Reading the first part of the book is rather like watching Dr Who from behind a cushion - knowing something bad will happen but unable to prevent it, or to prevent watching. It's also like watching a hospital drama where you know someone is going to have a bad accident or become ill and go to hospital, but there's nothing you can do about it. From the first pages in the book you feel totally invested, and you find yourself sneaking off to read 'just a bit more'.
The story is a true to form Mark Edwards - twisty, turny, riveting, edge of your seat drama. All mixed in with his classic sense of humour, and coming to a satisfying conclusion.
I absolutely loved this book - a very easy 5 stars from me.
I don't know what it is about Mark Edwards, you look at this guy and he just looks like an everyday ordinary, nice kinda guy and then you pick up one of his books, take a step inside his head and it's like you have entered a twisted new world where every day people in every day situations see their world turn upside down and inside out. This is what makes his books so gripping, so enthralling, you read them thinking OMG this could actually happen to me or someone you know.
The House Guest left me feeling unsettled, uneasy, a little bit scared and a little bit paranoid, nothing less than I'd expect from Mark Edwards.
Characters are so well developed that they step off the page and into your life....they are likeable and unlikeable at the same time; you trust them and then you don't trust them but boy do they keep you on the edge of your seat.
Towards the end of this book got a little too far fetched for me but I guess it was USA and things are a little more extreme over there. It didn't detract from my enjoyment and I was able to suspend my disbelief and go with the flow.
Would I recommend it, too right I would!
The House Guest is another intriguing and we'll written story by Mark Edwards who has recently become a firm favourite of mine.
Lots of twists and turns in this one. The premise of the book did not necessarily appeal to me, but I was engrossed until the end to see the outcome. Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC!
I'm a huge fan of Mark's books, so I had no doubts this would be brilliant. Whilst it's a little farfetched at times, it was just so addictive and I found myself so intrigued by Eden. I think this would make such a good TV show or movie!
I thought that this book was really well thought out and planned. I did not see the ending coming that is for sure. Great job done by Mark Edwards on this book!
Ruth and Adam (a young British couple in love and inspiring writers and actors) have been invited to house-sit for a couple in New York that they meet while on a cruise together. When Ruth and Adam are at the house in New York, a girl shows up at the door one night saying that she was friends with Mona and Jack Cunningham, the homeowners. With a summer storm drenching Eden, the visitor, Ruth and Adam decide to invite her in out of the rain. One thing leads to another and Eden ends up staying at the house for a few nights.
Several odd things end up happening while Eden is staying with Ruth and Adam, but they don't think anything much about it. Ruth is an inspiring actor that has landed a lead role in a play in New York that she has practices for everyday. While Ruth is at her play practice, Adam is in charge of keeping Eden company. Ruth doesn't think anything about Adam and Eden being together because she had worried about Adam being bored during the day anyway.
Ruth, Adam and Eden decide to have a dinner together on the Friday before Mona and Jack are to be home on Sunday to celebrate their time together. Eden ends up going to a local restaurant and gets dinner and picks up some vodka on the way home as well. They all drink their fair share and when Adam wakes up on Saturday night, he can't find Eden and Ruth. He thinks maybe he said something while he was drunk to make Ruth made and she has gone to cool off but will be back. When Sunday rolls around and Jack and Mona come home and inform Adam that they don't have a friend named Eden, Adam knows that something is wrong.
The adventure that Mark Edwards takes you on with this one will keep you wondering what is next. The surprises and twists and turns that happen will leave you on the edge of your seat. I know several times I thought to myself, "I didn't see that one coming". A really great read that you will not want to put down.
I voluntarily read and reviewed this book and all opinions are my own. Thanks to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book!
Twists and turns galore in this book, which is just what I've come to expect from Mark Edwards. Hooked from the first chapter, and I couldn't put this book down .
Would recommend to everyone
