"A perfect summer. A perfect stranger. A perfect nightmare.

When British twenty-somethings Ruth and Adam are offered the chance to spend the summer housesitting in New York, they can’t say no. Young, in love and on the cusp of professional success, they feel as if luck is finally on their side.

So the moment that Eden turns up on the doorstep, drenched from a summer storm, it seems only right to share a bit of that good fortune. Beautiful and charismatic, Eden claims to be a friend of the homeowners, who told her she could stay whenever she was in New York.

They know you’re not supposed to talk to strangers—let alone invite them into your home—but after all, Eden’s only a stranger until they get to know her.

As suspicions creep in that Eden may not be who she claims to be, they begin to wonder if they’ve made a terrible mistake…"

This book took me on quite a ride! I have read several Mark Edward’s novels in the past, and I can safely say I am a fan. I enjoyed the story from the very beginning and I was fairly sure I knew where it was heading, but a third if the way through it went in a completely different direction than I was anticipating! The first of many plot twists. It got pretty dark and shocking at times, and I was 100% there for it! Edward's writes characters that are so believable and relatable that I could really feel the paranoia, desperation and frustration that Adam was going through. It really was a case of Trust No One!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It kept me guessing all the way until the end and the twists just kept coming.

If you have not read Mark Edwards before and want to try one on his other books out while waiting for The House Guest to go on sale, I recommend last years Here To stay and my personal favourite Because She Loved Me.

Many thanks to Netgalley and Amaon publishing for sending me the ARC in exchange for an honest review

*received for free from netgalley for honest review* So this was a really good thriller BUT I read this book in two days and omfg I found myself so annoyed with so many characters!!!! just like ahh!! I felt like I was watching a scary movie where the whole time youre just screaming at them like NO STOP THAT. DONT DO TH-. OH YOU DID IT. NOW LOOK WHAT YOU DID. WHY. And I mean it wasn't really unrealistic bc that stuff DOES happen but just !!!!!!! tbh tho wasn't bad, was going to give 4 but id consider reading it again eventually and would recommend for sure.

Mark Edwards couldn’t possibly get any better in my eyes but he’s done it again! The House Guest is another incredible modern day nightmare. No fear of spoilers here, I went into those book blind, going by the author alone, thinking it was going to great. And it really is. Fantastic. I highly recommend you read everything by this author. 🖤

The House Guest was an amazing read by I must say a brilliant author. Every book I have read is a page turner. The house guest is about a couple who house sits for a couple who has went on retreat. The house guest turns this couple lives upside down! I love the suspense I could not stop reading! I absolutely love the ending of the story. Showing exactly how everything unfolds! It's a MUST read.

Mark Edwards is one of my favourite writers and his latest novel did not disappoint! Ruth and Adam get the opportunity to house-sit in New York while also pursuing their dreams of success and fame. A girl called Eden turns up to the house one day claiming to be a friend of the house owners who told her she could stay in the house anytime. Ruth and Adam let Eden stay and start to become friends with her, but is she really who she claims to be or have they made a big mistake inviting her into the house and into their lives? What follows is a tense, chilling tale that will keep you on the edge of your seat and shock and surprise you. It is full of twists and turns and a lot of suspense, and will thrill you right to the end. Mark is such a talented writer and comes up with clever and gripping thrillers and interesting characters. I can't wait for his next book!

Adam and Ruth are house sitting for a wealthy couple, Mona and Jack. About a week before the couple's return a young woman, Eden, knocks on the door during a rainstorm, claiming she is a friend of the owners and is allowed to stay at their house anytime. And so,Adam and Ruth, totally charmed by this enigmatic woman, let her stay. Everything goes well, until all three of them get really drunk and Adam wakes up next day all alone,no Ruth and no Eden. Stranger still, when Jack and Mona come back home they claim that they have no idea who Eden is.
I was so hooked by this premise despite it being pretty unrealistic. Like, there is no phone at the place where Jack and Mona were staying even though it is a retreat for rich people. I cannot imagine not having any contact with the outside world and I don't have a business or an empire to run. And how Ruth and Adam just let Eden stay so casually like it is not a big deal at all only because she is charming. I don't open the door to strangers at all so that part had me very sceptical. But,these things aside, the mystery hooked me. I was desperate to know what was going on and who Eden really is. Buuuut then I found out and was hugely disappointed. Unfortunately this book had one of my least favorite topics to read or watch movies and TV shows about. Can't tell you what that is in case of spoilers though. And so the rest of the book was not enjoyable to me whatsoever. 2.5 stars.
Thank you to Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Since the kindle copy could now be sent to my device. I would read and review it accordingly. The star was because I couldn't read the book, nothing to do with the author's writing.

it seems like a dream come true. Couple Ruth and Adam are offered the chance to housesit in New York City and they jump at the incredible opportunity. When Eden shows up on their doorstep in New York, she informs them she has been offered the house whenever she needs it. Ruth and Adam don’t feel they can turn the girl away, but is she really who she says she is. Edwards has made a real name for himself in the UK as a purveyor of thriller fiction. Americans will find much to like in Edwards who provides good solid scares

A perfect summer. A perfect stranger. A perfect nightmare.
Yes, yes, yes. All true.
The House Guest is the chilling new psychological thriller .
No, not true. I didn't find it chilling at all.
However, this was a quick and easy read for me. It did have some twists that I didn't expect and it was well written. The characters were ok, I quite liked Adam but I didn't invest too much in any of them.
The plot worked though and like I said, it was an easy read. I did like it..

Can't read this as the format is not compatible with Kindle - it opens as a word doc but is a corrupted file? I really like Mark Edwards' books so if this could be fixed I'd be delighted to read!
