Oh my gosh, what can I say other than I loved this story! This was my first time reading anything by author Boo Walker and now I feel like I need to read all of his previous books. This was about a young widow of 3 years who after deciding to sell her and her deceased husbands home as a way to start living again, runs across an unfinished novel that he was writing while cleaning out his home office. This is where the adventure begins! This book is so well written that I could feel all the emotions that the characters were going through. And speaking of the characters, I loved them all! This is a book where you’ll need tissues nearby, as I really shed some tears towards the end. But it was a happy cry brought on by great writing and storytelling. The lesson to be learned from reading this is that when you lose someone you really love, never shut down, feel guilt or regret, but lay the past to rest and start living again. Your future can have so much happiness in it if you’ll only allow it to happen. I’d like to thank NetGalley for the arc to read and review and for introducing me to a new author. This book is a 5 star read!
While the cover and description caught my interest, unfortunately I don't believe this is going to be the book for me.
An Unfinished Story is a brilliant story written by Boo Walker. It is about loss and funding the courage to move on and help others. I really liked this book. It gabs you and doesnt let go. I enjoyed the writing and the emotion behind the words. I highly recommend this wonderful story!
An Unfinished Story was a beautiful read. In it, Claire takes on the task of finding someone to finish her late husband David's novel. She convinces Whitaker, who has written one great book only to be plagued with a 10 year long case of writer's block to take on the task. Together they learn about themselves, how to forgive, and how to dig deep and live the lives they were intended. They also learn more than they ever imagined about David.
I loved the whole idea of this story. I loved the way the author described the setting and made the characters real. Both Claire and Whitaker were a little frustrating at times, but I couldn't help but pull for them. I had a good idea where the story was going, and I was not disappointed. This was my first book by Boo Walker. I enjoyed his writing style and look forward to reading more from him in the future.
My thanks to Lake Union Publishing and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book and give my unbiased opinion.
Let me start out with, I LOVE the way Boo Walker writes. I felt so comfortable and so engaged in this story, he had me at hello….. The way we went from present to past was seamless and I was out right laughing so many times. The character development was great, the slow burn building between Claire and Whitaker was well worth the ride and the touches of humor were an absolute joy.
The complete story was believable and the descriptions of how each person dealt with their own personal situations was spot on. I have several other Boo Walker books in my library and I am so looking forward to spending many more hours with him. Great read – highly recommend.
I want to thank Lake Union Publishing and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read and review this book for my honest unbiased opinion. So good, high five stars!!
I really enjoyed this book once it got flowing. It took a little bit too long to develop the characters. Claire Kite is a widow who has been grieving for 3 years. Packing up her husband David’s office, she finds a book that he had started writing. Claire decides she wants Whitaker Grant to finish the book. Whitaker had a bestseller many years ago that both her husband and her had read. He was from the same area in Florida That they lived. Whitaker doesn’t want to finish the book because he has writer’s block and doesn’t think he can do it. What ensues is the mystery of why David kept the book secret and who was Orlando. This is my first time reading this author. I will be now go back and read his other books. Thank you to NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for the E-ARC. This is my own opinion.
I absolutely loved An Unfinished Story by Boo Walker! What an incredible story of loss and love and helping others.
Claire’s husband David dies in a car accident and she is left trying to pick up the pieces of her life. She finds an almost finished novel David was writing before he died and decides that his story must be finished. She finds the author that inspired David, Whitaker Grant fit for the job. Whitaker is also going through a difficult patch in his life and the way him and Claire weather their difficulties together is really sweet and heart-warming. While finishing David’s story, Whitaker finds a photograph of David and a young boy and realizes that the boy in the photo is the one David was writing about. This leads to Claire and Whitaker searching for the boy in the photo and turns into a lovely storyline as well.
5 stars! Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!
Second chance love stories are a rare kind of romance that are not written about often. I found this story engaging because of the way the characters have been developed. It was a perfect quick and breezy read. It has all the elements for a good romance : love, loss and grief.
Definitely recommend for a quick read!
Second chance love stories are awesome. Very sweet. Really enjoyed this one.
Many thanks to the author, the publishers, and NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
Thoroughly enjoyable book. This is a great gentle story about love, loss and grief. I enjoyed the development of the characters and the chemistry between the two main characters. It was a lovely quick read for a weekend of quarantine. Look forward to more books from this author. Thank to NetGalley for this advanced reader copy.
This is a lovely story about all kinds of things… Grief, loss, love, family, friends, meaningful work. I had a little bit of trouble at the beginning getting into the character of Whitaker, but other than that I felt like I just had a great Florida vacation! And I’m a sucker for kids fining tr and I’m a sucker for stories about kids finding true homes use homes too:)
Thanks to NetGalley and Lake Union publishing for providing me with ARC.
This is the first novel to me by Boo Walker, I enjoyed it so much.
This novel is melting my heart, how Claire loved Grant.
A grieving widow Claire and a unrealistic writer Grant form an unexpected bond in a unfinished manuscript left by David (Claire husband). Claire has an idea of finding someone to finish the manuscript. She wanted to give David’s novel the ending it deserved. But there is more to the story than anyone dreamed. Something personal as well as something true. Claire and Grant find the ending to the story and the found hope for a new beginning and second chances and finding the courage to let go of the past. Boo Walker had me captivated to find out who was coming to dinner. I cried as well as laughed but smiled at the end.
I loved, loved, loved the Red Mountain series. Walker's characters are so engaging and there are multiple story lines within each book to keep the reader interested. Additionally, Walker's prose in the Red Mountain series is beautiful. An Unfinished Story is a let down in comparison. An Unfinished Story is a good, old-fashioned romance, and as such it is very cliched and predictable. There is not a plot twist or even really a doubt about how the novel will end. This is a Hallmark movie in the making.
Three years have passed since Claire lost her husband, David, in a tragic car accident. Claire finally finds herself able to go through her husband’s things and finds an incomplete manuscript. An idea comes to her, can she find someone to give David’s novel the ending he would have wanted?
Whitaker Grant is an author, famous for one novel which became a hit film. Fame had not been kind to him with the pressure of his massive success and the end his marriage, Whitaker retreated from the public eye.
Years later, he receives an intriguing request from a lonely widow.
Thank you, NetGalley, Lake Union Publishing and the Author Boo Walker for allowing me to review a pre-publication copy of the novel.
I just loved this story. Read it in one sitting! Well written and heart breaking ( I had sniffles in spots, lol) I loved the plot and the ending was wonderful! While I wasnt overly fond of the character Whitaker Grant ( not exactly sure why? Seemed somewhat disconnected from the story somehow. I struggled when reading his story in the beginning ) I really liked the other characters. Giving a 4 star and a recommendation you read this one!
Thank you Netgalley the author and publisher for an ARC of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
Its always a pleasure to find a novel that warms the heart, that brings joy into the world, that leaves
you- at the end- knowing all is well. An Unfinished Story hits all points. We follow a grieving widow,
Claire Kite, as she struggles to move on with her life years after the tragic death of her husband.
Grief is different for each person and the author seems so in tune with this. As she cleans out the
last room of their 'forever' home she finds a handwritten manuscript - an unfinished story - that
leaves more mystery than answers. Claire is determined that to lay her grief to rest the story needs
an end.
This is a brilliant story! It has it all: love, loss, growth, romance, and in a sense, buried treasure.
My first book by this author and definitely not my last. This book was so good!! I loved the characters and the story.
It was a hard to put down book! Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the early copy
I love Florida and I loved this story. Set in a truly beautiful part of the world it was descriptive enough to keep me thinking of the location and the story kept me enthralled to the end. It follows a widows need to get a story started by her husband finished but little does she know its not fiction. Fabulous read, highly recommend.
A grieving widow and a disenchanted writer form an unexpected bond in a novel about second chances and finding the courage to let go of the past.
It’s been three years since Claire Kite lost her husband, David, an aspiring novelist, in a tragic car accident. Claire finally finds the courage to move on; then she discovers among the remnants of her shattered world her husband’s last manuscript. It’s intimate, stirring—and unfinished. An idea comes to her…What if she can find someone to give David’s novel the ending it deserves?
Whitaker Grant is famous for his one and only bestselling novel—a masterpiece that became a hit film. But after being crippled by the pressure of success and his failed marriage, Whitaker retreated from the public eye in his native St. Petersburg, Florida. Years later, he’s struggling through a deep midlife crisis. Until he receives an intriguing request from a lonely widow. To honor David’s story, Whitaker must understand, heart and soul, the man who wrote it and the woman he left behind.
There’s more to the novel than anyone dreamed. Something personal. Something true. Maybe, in bringing a chapter of David’s life to a close, Claire and Whitaker can find hope for a new beginning.
I absolutely LOVE Boo Walker's books. He writes as one paints. I would remmond his book to everyone. Never miss a chance to feel hope, love and become part of a greater life.
