A late night knock at the door is rarely a good thing and for Monica and her new husband it means solving a murder. Fast paced and so many twists and turns made this book a delight to read highly recommend
This was an entertaining read. The characters are well-developed. The mystery is full of twists and turns to keep the reader engrossed in the story.
All thoughts and opinions are my own, and in no way have I been influenced by anyone..
I meant to only read a handful of chapters yesterday as I had a lot of things to do. I had to add some of those chores to today’s list as those handful of chapters became the whole book as I was sucked into the charming little town of Cranberry Cove. The story started off with someone showing up at Monica and Greg’s door, claiming that someone had tried to kill her, but she was unable to say who that person was. She had amnesia! The author did a great job of throwing in enough believable red herrings that I was unable to actually guess whodunnit until the murderer was revealed. I really liked Monica and Greg. All the characters were well developed. While this was #5 in the series, this was completely standalone. I had no confusion whatsoever while reading. Even though this was my first Cranberry Cove mystery, it will not be my last. Thank you to Netgalley and Beyond the Page Publishing for the copy. All opinions expressed are my own.
I am becoming a huge fan of the cozy mystery genre due to books like this. You can read this as an escape from the everyday in a weekend. A really good mystery.
This is a good mystery series I have enjoyed all of them so far I just wish they had a little more detail about the characters otherwise a great read.
Between audiobooks and Ebooks, I was able to binge this series and it has been a pleasant series to read. Monica is delightful and makes sleuthing look easy but dangerous. If I had one complaint about Monica it would be that she leaves a lot of the baking to her assistant Kit. Good thing he doesn't mind.
Cranberry Cove feels like a real Michigan town that I would love to visit especially in the fall. I have found it very interesting in learning about cranberries. In all honesty, I thought they only grew in Washington state.
Each book has yummy cranberry recipes included. I am going to try the Orange Cranberry bread in this book very soon.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher, Beyond the Page, through NetGalley. All opinions expressed in the above review are entirely my own.
Winter In Cranberry Cove.....
It’s Winter in Cranberry Cove. Monica uncovers a catalogue of deadly secrets when she helps a mysterious woman. Enjoyable cosy mystery with a likeable protagonist and a colourful cast of supporting characters set in a delightful backdrop. With recipes.
Good, solid book. Easy to follow. Would recommend to anyone who likes a thriller or mystery book. Liked the characters and it was difficult to put down!
It was a dark and stormy night when a stranger knocked on the door of the home of Monica and Greg. Thus began the fifth book in the Cranberry Cove series. The stranger, Dana Bakker is convinced someone is trying to kill her but, because of an automobile accident a few minutes earlier, she doesn’t remember who or why. Actually, she finds her sister Marta Kuiper was the target – she’s dead in the family home.
There are numerous possible suspects and reason why Marta is dead. Combined with the development potential of the Kuiper land and Monica’s brother’s land, Cranberry Cove is a dangerous place to be. Monica puts on her sleuthing hat to identify the guilty party, asking questions and checking information.
A busy story with a lot going on with Monica and with various secondary characters keeps the reader Involved. I love mysteries where it’s not obvious “who done it” and why. One chapter and I was sure I knew who the killer was, but in the next chapter new facts were revealed and my opinion changed. While this wasn’t my favorite cozy mystery, it was engaging enough that I finished it in one day (no housework completed, however.)
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher. The opinion is completely my own.
Newlyweds Monica and Greg are surprised when a stranger knocks on their door in a snowstorm one night. She says she was in a car accident and that someone is trying to kill her. Aside from that, amnesia is preventing the woman, Dana, from providing more details.
Monica, who runs a cranberry bake shop utilizing the crop from her brother Jeff's cranberry farm, finds herself in a mystery. She drives the stranger around town to try to job her memory, and they end up at the Dana's sister's home only to discover a dead body. The death is ruled natural causes, but Dana and Monica aren't so sure. It turns out quite a few people had motive to kill Marta, and one major motive seems to be money.
The story is set in the quaint town of Cranberry Cove on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan. I enjoyed the area and the small town. However, I found it hard to believe that Monica and Greg would let a stranger into their house to spend the night rather than calling police. I know small towns are a little different than the suburban area where I live, but I still thought it was a bad idea and can't imagine people actually doing that.
This is the first book in the Cranberry Cove series I've read, though it's the fifth installment. I always seem to read cozy series out of order, but it rarely causes a problem because the reader doesn't need to read them in order to understand the story. This was no exception, though I do have book one in the series and I plan to read it next.
Berried in the Past by Peg Cochran is the fifth book in the Cranberry Cove series. Monica and Greg are enjoying a quiet night at home when a late night visitor arrives saying someone is trying to kill her. That involves Monica in the woman's life including discovering her sister dead. The suspect list in this was varied. I waffled back and forth on the culprit being certain and doubting all at the same time. I enjoy the setting of this series although I do question how many cranberry dishes two people can eat. I have read previous books although this one can be read on its own. I look forward to the next installment.
An enjoyable cozy mystery that I picked up after finishing a very heavy, dark thriller and needed something not that. This one was an excellent choice. Cozy characters set in a community that gave Peg Cochran lots of room to build the mystery and give us lots of suspects. There were no boring or slow parts, the story keeps your interest as you wonder who the heck could do this???? Great read to share with your cozy friends and family.
I enjoyed reading this fun light cozy. There were twist in the story which made it fun to read. Looking forward to reading more from this author.
What a task Monica had, traveling back into the past in search of clues leading to the killer. She opened up a can of retired beans that almost cost her dearly. This storyline had me going until I realized I was climbing up the wrong tree, but what an amazing twist. I never saw this end coming, a true gripping ride.
An entertaining cosy mystery and a light read. Monika and Greg are newly married and settling in a cosy cottage on a cranberry farm owned by Monika's brother and where Monika helps out. Greg still runs his bookshop in the local town and the town is clearly devoted to cranberries. One cold and snowy evening a stranger knocks at their door asking for help. Turns out her sister is dead and eventually determined as murder, their brother is frankly horrible, a developer wants either the dead woman's house (joint owned by the three siblings or Monika's brother's farm in order to develop a Mall not wanted by anyone, except him, Twists and turns in small town America helped along with a strong mix of sometimes bizarre characters and History amongst them. The whole lot is subsumed under a mountain of cranberry muffins, fine by me although the coffee with cranberry dessert sounded horrible I'm afraid! I've not read any of this series before and had imagined Monika and Greg as middle-aged not the mid-thirties or so that they were when age was noted. Bit of a surprise that. Perhaps it's a result of all those cranberries? Thanks to NetGalley and Beyond the Page Publishing for an advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
Princess Fuzzypants here: Life is going along swimmingly for Monica and Greg until there is a knock on their door during a blizzard. It is a woman who says she has amnesia but is convinced someone is trying to kill her. In an effort to help her regain her memory, Monica drives her to a door she remembers and when they enter the home, they find her sister in bed, dead. Slowly the memories return but not enough for her to recall what happened when she lost her memory.
At first it seems the sister died of natural causes but when it becomes obvious foul play was involved, there are a surprising number of possible suspects including the lady with amnesia. At the heart of it is an offer from a developer to purchase the house and land where the deceased lived to build a mall. It turns out both surviving siblings have need for funds which gives them motive. Then Monica gets threats. It seems her brother has also been approached to sell his farm and when the townspeople get wind of it, there is a decided outcry against the sale.
It all combines into a spider’s web of intrigue, secrets and revenge. In fact, the red herrings were so effective it deflected attention from the killer to another suspect. Well done.
Four purrs and two paws up.
This book is a sweet light hearted cozy with lots of weird characters and a killer plot. There are some twists given it is a mystery but lots of fun for all trying to figure out who did the ghastly deed. This adoreable little cozy is very entertaining and a delightful read.
This is the 5th installment in the popular cozy mystery series "Cranberry Cover" by cozy author Peg Cochran. I have read the entire series and was pleased to receive this next in series for review. This is a favorite series of mine and one I enjoy returning to . Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley for the opportunity. I love the Cranberry Farm that the author created and returning to favorite charcters for the next sleuthing adventure.
In this next installment we visit newlyweds Monica and Greg. The are enjoying time at home in a snowstorm by the fire when a strange unknown women comes to their door begging for help. The women is disoriented and is desperate for their help is claiming someone is trying to kill her.
Concerned they both take action for her as she asks them to take her to her home . Once they arrive they find her sister dead. Grey and Monica decide to investigate and soon numerous clues and red herrings appear as they delve further into the mystery of the two sisters.
I enjoyed this next in series and always love returning to this series. The charcters are done to perfection and the setting is beautifully described by the author. The sleuth was very well crafted to surprise this reader to the conclusion. I highly recommend this next in series for your cozy mystery reading enjoyment.
I found this book in the series to be very interesting with a great mystery and an added bonus of amnesia. Sometimes I think Monica goes a bit too far solving the crime but she always finds the culprit.
The recipes look yummy and I can't wait to try some of them.
BERRIED IN THE PAST is the fifth book in the Cranberry Cove series. Though this is the fifth book in the series, I was not at all lost; it stood on its own well.
I loved the way that clues were dropped like carefully spaced bread crumbs leading me through a complicated maze. There are wonderful characters with diverse, unique, and complex personalities. The plot is well thought out with the back story provided for anyone new to the series, but not dragging for anyone who may be an avid reader of the author.
This may be the first book I have read from this new-to-me author, but I would love to read more. There is also the added bonus of recipes!
Note: While I received this book as a gifted ARC via NetGalley, my opinions are my own and are given freely.
