This is supposed to be a staple of esoteric knowledge. It contains the Hermetic principles that many other magical concepts are based on. It's great info but a little dry.
These are Hermetic teachings. According to the author, there are seven principles of nature that are listed than explained. It is an interesting perspective. These principle get you thinking. Should there be more than seven? Should some be substituted for others? You decide.
Short, simple, and to the point. Goes over basic universal metaphysical laws - the seven laws of the universe, which will expand your mind and make you go ah-ha!
Definitely worth a read.
Thanks to Netgalley, publisher and author for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book is an excellent summarization of the Hermetic Principles. It is a must have for anyone studying occultism. Bear in mind, you may find it difficult to read if you are just getting started one your journey. Don’t give up, read and reread this book to absorb the knowledge. With repetition, eventually it will all make sense.
The authors' pseudonym "Three Initiates" is speculated to represent William Walker Atkinson, Michael Whitty, and Paul Foster Case (co-founder of The Builders of the Adytum), although later publishers of the work attribute Atkinson as the sole author. The content comprises seven so-called tenets of Hermetic thought, which have been re-published and expanded upon from numerous sources in the decades since The Kybalion first appeared in 1908. Unfortunately, it discloses little of authentic Hermetic philosophy as discussed in the original Hermetika BCE 6th–CE 1st, but serves the inventions of a few adepts of the western esoteric tradition.
Interesting book. I think it is a good overview of this idea of the seven Hermetic principle. If you are looking for ideas behind spirituality, you might like this book too.
A perfect companion book to have and read during your studies of the metaphysical. I recommend this book highly! I voluntarily read this book via NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.
About this Edition of the Kybalion:
The text as it has been known and loved since its first publication years ago is rendered faithfully for a new generation of readers to enjoy.
This little book of wisdom covers a wide variety of topics within a fairly short space and elaborates on the popularly discussed hermetic principals. While the material is a strange mix of hermetic and new thought philosophy it has shaped the modern spiritual community in a way that makes it nearly essential reading.
Those who have missed out on previous editions of this book or are simply looking for a good kindle compatible version will be well served to pick up this edition.
I was excited to have the opportunity to read this, but unfortunately found it repetitive and not very illuminating. There were even misspellings in the text. The novice student of such schools of thought may find some wisdom here, but it is my opinion that those who have studied religious science, who practice Buddhism, etc., will find little in new information.
My thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this text.
