I was drawn to this beautiful cover, then I read the description, and despite not knowing the author or hearing anything about it, I felt compelled to read it. And I’m so glad I did, as I really enjoyed this psychological thriller. I figured some of the pieces out chapters ahead, but others I didn’t figure out until the very end. The ending was shocking to say the least. If you enjoy this genre, totally pick this one up!
Many Thanks to the author and Netgalley for allowing me to read this book before being published in exchange for an honest review.
Although I haven´t had a lot of time to read these last days I finished this book quite quick as it gets you right from the beginning. It is very quick pace and I do like Diana and Val as the main characters. I don´t like Val´s behaviour towards her best friend though. Of course Diana not remembering what happened before her accident is very convenient although she guessed the affair of her friend with her husband.
But you can´t guess until right until the end what´s going on although you can sense that Diana´s mother didn´t die of a natural dead. There are always little clues of what might had happened in the past but that is why you want to get over with it and know what happens at the end.
I love thrillers so I enjoyed this book thoroughly from the beginning to the right end.
It is the first book by this author I have read but I will be looking to see what she´s written before After all I´ve done.
Full disclosure: I love books about amnesia after a traumatic event. I love how the characters struggle to figure out what happened to them before their amnesia, who the people in their current reality are, and who they can trust. So After All I've Done was right up my alley!
Mina Hardy has created a cast of characters whom you both dislike, yet pity, as their stories play off one another. No one is who they appear to be - you're never sure from one chapter to the next who is guilty of disloyalty, who is using another person, and who is being gaslighted. You will definitely guess some of the twists and turns, but you won't see others coming, and there are quite a few!
I know that this author writes under a pseudonym and I can't wait to read another one of her books!
From the first page I was hooked on this domestic thriller. While I thought I had it all figured out there were some twists that caught me by surprise. Diana was in a car accident and broke both her collar bones and lost a chunk of her memory. This is her story of trying to heal while she also struggles to remember all that she’s forgotten. Everyone has secrets and Diana learns hers are as dangerous as everyone else’s. Diana is isolated as her best friend and sister by choice is sleeping with her husband. Haunted by dreams that feel real but make no sense Diana is desperate to put all the pieces together but will she do it in time?
Mina Hardy, you just raised the bar in this genre. A fantastic novel, offering an explosive plot with an utterly shocking ending. The characters were marvelous and developed in accordance with the arcane plot. Fantastic read. Highly recommended
Thank you to #NetGalley for the ARC of #AfterAllIveDone which was read and reviewed voluntarily by @wayward_readers
I enjoyed this novel. It is very well written, kept my attention. Excellent prose. I anticipated the 'bad guy' but then I usually do.
Thankyou Netgalley for giving me an opportunity to read this book!
Well Well this was one of the best psychological thriller which I have read.
This is a story of Diana Sparrow who is suffering from Anestheia-Induced amnesia who keeps thinking she has lost a part of her life.
"I 'm forgetting something-well I am.Almost half year of my life"
She's lost her best friend, her husband--and possibly, her mind.
As if that's not enough, she's started having recurring nightmares about the night of the accident. Dreams that feel so real, she's left questioning: maybe she didn't just slide off the road into a ditch. Maybe, just maybe, she hit something. Or someone.
She can't turn to her former best friend Val, who's been sleeping with Diana's husband Jonathan for months, but she might find some comfort in newcomer Cole Pelham. Yet the closer they become, the more Diana begins to wonder what really happened that night--and how Cole might be connected. Worse, it seems everyone else could be involved, too.
I was hooked to this book until last 60 pages. Then I lost my interest.
You can easily anticipate what would come expect and it no longer remains a suspense.
The characters are well written .
I disliked Diana at the start but I started liking her in the middle. She is seen as a woman who can't be a lady who keeps on confronting her husband about his extramarital affair to which I was shocked to .
Cole's character gave me a glimpse of Joe (Character from Netflix series You).
Its easy when you can connect the dots and maybe this became one of the best books I have read.
The writer could have worked more in the middle .The story starts appearing as repetitive and we as readers can easily lose our interest from that point .
A recommended book for all
Amnesia, an unhappy marriage, an overbearing mother-in-law, and a best friend who is willing to do anything for you.....yes, anything. As Diana tries to unravel the shards of her life, you are sucked into a story that explodes into an unpredictable ending. Wow! This book starts as a slow burn, and then builds to a fabulous and exciting ending. I will be recommending this psychological thriller to friends.
Wow, wow, wow! This is one I could not put down! Every time I thought I had something figured out, there was a new twist, and the ending I did NOT see coming! Well written and kept me on the edge of my seat. I can only hope this author writes many more thrillers!
My thoughts
Would I recommend it? Yes
Would I read more by this author? Yes
First off I should say that it was the cover that got me to request it as soon as I saw it on NetGalley , and I'm so glad I did . Because as soon as I started to read it I just couldn't stop, I was hooked on the story and what was happening to the characters even though there was one character I didn't really like at all or how she acted towards Diana when you first meet her. As for Diana I felt sorry for her because there was times she seemed like she didn't know if what was going on was real or not. And the more you read the more you start to wounder if things are happening because of the accident, or if Dianna is doing them herself or is someone trying to make her go crazy. This book had everything I wanted : dark secrets, twist and turns, murder. What more can I say then what I've already said and that is that it will leave you completely and utterly speechless , and that you will find it just as gripping, compelling and so unbelievably twisted that your never see the end coming . With that said I want to thank NetGalley for letting me read and review it .
This book is amazing. I was hooked from the first chapter.
The book is mainly written from the POV of Diana and Val, until midway or so in another character comes in; Cole. Diana was in a car accident and suffers from memory loss because of the anaesthesia. She can’t remember a couple of months in which many things in her life changed. She lost her best friend, her mother come and went from her life and now it seems like she is losing her mind as well. She suffers from horrible nightmares that seem lifelike. She tries to regain her memories, but it isn’t working. And no one is telling her everything or only half truths. Her mother in law tries her best, but seems a bit overbearing and a bit of a wacko. Val, Diana’s former best friend is in live with Diana’s husband, but she doesn’t know what to do about it exactly. She hates Diana for keeping him while being unhappy and he can’t seem to make a decision for himself. Cole has met Diana before she lost her memory, but he doesn’t share it with her, they rekindle whatever they had but it might never be the same.
I felt something was off with some characters and it turned out the be a righteous feeling. Some of the things in the book I saw coming, but the big reveal in the end left me a dropped jaw. Incredible ending and amazing read.
What happens when you can’t remember anything? When all you have is what your family tells you? Diana is trying to piece her life together after a horrible car accident that left her with two broken clavicles and amnesia. She relays on her ever present mother in law to care for her and tries to figure out why her and her best friend aren’t close anymore. The story is told through the different character’s perspectives and with flash backs. The reader eventually sees what we do for the ones we love. I never saw the ending and it left me feeling wonderfully uncomfortable. Excellent book.
Thank you Net galley and the publishers for allowing me to read this book for an honest review.
3.5 stars - although some parts were predictable, the story as a whole was not. Kept my attention, was fast paced and lingered just enough to keep me coming back for more. Definitely enjoyed this read and the authors writing style.
First off I Love Megan Hart so when I saw she had written a new novel under the name Mina Hardy I knew I had to read it . Diana sparrow has been in an accident and lost part of her memory . She is living with her Husband and doting MIL she begins having nightmares about her accident that she begins questioning her reality . Between her best friend sleeping with her husband she doesn’t have anyone to turn to . You will never guess who the psycho is in this compelling unputdownable story .
While this book certainly compelled me to keep reading with its many plot twists and turns, I found the majority of the characters to be so flawed and unlikeable that it was hard to even care what happened to them. Each one comes across as ruthless and self-centred with so little humanity it's difficult to understand their motivation. And all of them, with the exception of Cole who actually has a conscience, seems bent on causing the maximum pain and damage to each other. I kept on reading because I had a hunch who the 'bad guy' was and wanted to see if I was right. I was. Thanks to Net Galley and Crooked Lane Books for providing me with a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
Superb read, with all its twists and turns, until the final stunning denouement.
Read it in one go, and was sad when it ended.
Highly recommended.
The plot was twisty, which I always love. However it was difficult to connect with the characters. They were all so flawed. It was easy to dislike them all. I don’t normally figure out the plot in thrillers such as these. However, this one is easy to uncover. Although the twist at the end was a shocker. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to be an early reader in exchange for my review.
First of all, I would like to thank Crooked Lane Books for providing me with a free copy through NetGalley, thank you !
It took me a while to get into the story, the characters felt a bit flat and I didn't feel close to them. I did like the ending though so it was worth reading it until the end ! I just think it was not the right book for me.
This book was a great offering from what was previously to me an unknown author. I enjoyed the twist and turns while the pace kept me wanting to read more. Characters and plot were easy to follow and I was able to finish the book in one setting. I did pick up on the twist towards the end of the book, but not the full plot twist which was surprising to say the least! Well written and a enjoyable read.
This is definitely a page turner! A psychological thriller for sure.
I suspected who the actual "bad guy" was all along and what was being done (I won't say more as I hate spoilers). There is a very disturbing plot twist at the end that I never saw coming at all and the "yuck" factor is real. I knew the character was "off" but certainly never to that degree. That was truly brilliant on the author's part.
Sadly I never really felt empathy for any of the characters. I did not like any of them except Cole who is not a main player in the book. The ending was also a bit over dramatic for me but some people might like it (especially those who like the end of Quentin Tarantino movies.
Overall it was a great thriller and would be a perfect beach read!
Thanks to the publisher, author and to Net Galley for an advanced copy of this book.
