Thanks to Little, Brown, and Company for an egalley in exchange for an honest review.
Imagine that the man you loved is now going to marry another woman? Now, picture it's the younger sister that has always wanted to be just like you! What would you be willing to do to make sure that the wedding never happens? Corporate event planner, Sara Harrington arrives in her hometown with a plan- to make her sister's wedding day a disaster. The Wedding Thief is a comedic contemporary family drama that had me turning the pages but lacked the deep belly laughs that I was craving. Maybe it was because the protagonist, Sara, and I are the same age? Or perhaps because I didn't grow up with a sister that I failed to understand why a 38-year-old woman would stoop to some of the antics that occur in this book. Then again, it's just a book and anything is possible.
On the other hand, there were glimmers of comedic hilarity when it came to the pastry thieves and an art sculpture that needs to be fixed by a high school art teacher. Also, I do like how there was a little redemption in the end and it did leave me feeling good. I would also like to mention that one of my favorite characters in the story was Sara and Mariel's mother.

I Requested this book because the plot sounded interesting, and quickly read it in an evening, but found the execution disappointing. . I found the main characters unlikable, shallow and was unable to care about what happened to them. What kind of mom would trick you into coming home claiming terminal illness in order to reconcile you with the sister who stole your fiancée and was getting married to him in two weeks time, saying you should get over it? What kind of sister would then stay and sabotage the wedding? The writing itself wasn’t bad and the cover is great but those are the only positives I can mention.
