This story is about Kat Parker and Zac Edwards, two very different people. Zac is an actor, while Kat is a bodyguard assigned to protect him. Over the course of 37 chapters, you will fall in love with these characters and their story. The chemistry between Kat and Zac is evident from the moment they meet, making for an engaging read. The sizzling chemistry between them is clear right from the start. The story is so captivating that it's easy for the reader to get absorbed in it, leaving them wanting more. It's also fascinating to see this side of the entertainment business. However, this book should come with a warning, as readers are likely to become emotionally invested. It had me laughing and crying along with the characters because of how engrossed I was in their story. Overall, this book was a joy to read and solidified in my mind what a talented author Kathryn Freeman is. It makes me eager to add more of her work to my collection.
This book was good but wasn't something I'd rush to pick up and read again. I found myself not drawn to the characters and plot as much as other books I've read, and so I didn't always reach to pick it up and keep reading. I liked the reverse trope of the female bodyguard to the male main character! Thank you, NetGalley, for the ARC!
A bit of fun to read in the evening, not one I’d rush to read again though. Little bit slow at times, but still enjoyable.
Cool, funny and down to earth characters with decent development through out. Lovely book to relax with.
An enjoyable ,fun kind of read. The writing was ok. Thank you to both NetGalley and publishers for gifting me this book
I am sorry for the inconvenience but I don’t have the time to read this anymore and have lost interest in the concept. I believe that it would benefit your book more if I did not skim your book and write a rushed review. Again, I am sorry for the inconvenience.
This book just really, really did nothing for me. I found myself forcing myself to pick it up, I never could quite root for either character, and it felt so soulless and one dimensional. What really got to me was the instalove component - we never hear WHY they fall do each other, just that there’s an attraction so overwhelming that they have no choice. To me, that’s never an easy sell.
On top of that, I found Kat’s character to be a wasted chance at developing a really cool idea that fell flat thanks to Zac’s constant lack of trust and apparent lack of faith in her ability to do her job. All in all, I finished it, if only to be able to accurately review it.
I loved the twist on the classic "Bodyguard" trope, where this time it was a woman protecting a man. The first chapter immediately grabbed me and I thought I was going to be set down the path of a hot, sizzling romance... but this one just ended up fizzling out. I ended up feeling like I was the wrong generation to be reading this book, but I don't think that was intended. The streaminess was spot on, but the emotional reactions between Kat and Zac just seemed to be so blown out of proportion. I couldn't get on board with them throughout the entire book because their reactions just kept weirding me out. This book has great potential, and I think would be very much enjoyed by 18-21 year olds.
This was a fun read. A little bit of suspense & a bit of romance. I loved the banter between Kat & Zac. Quick read!
Zac a film star is being stalked, so along comes Kat to be his bodyguard. Sparks start to fly and I was along for the will they won't they ride.
Kat is still reeling from a past relationship and is not too keen to pursue anything new, but Zac is very persuasive and just an all round good egg.
The other problem is that Zac may be being stalked by more than one person!
This was a fun romance, with great dialogue and believable characters. The added suspense element kept me turning the pages and the overall story left me with a smile on my face.
This book had a great first chapter, then is just kind of slowed down…
I just wasn’t able to really connect with the characters or engage in the story.
I did like the idea of the gender swap with the female bodyguard, but overall I didn’t finish this one. Maybe I’ll come back to it at some point and try again.
Thank you to the publisher for my eARC copy of this book. Unfortunately I didn’t love this book and therefore didn’t finish, I just didn’t connect with this one. Not for me, sorry.
I just could not get into this. The plot was fine, but other than that I just didn’t love it. The characters were eh. The writing style wasn’t my favorite. The ending was eh. I really wanted to like this it just wasn’t my cup of tea.
Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for the arc. All opinions are my own.
I couldn't get into this story and enjoy it because I didn't like the author's writing style. I liked the story and the plot itself though. The writing just didn't grab my attention.
This checked off everything I look for in a book. Was not disappointed. Really enjoyed this book. I will read more from this author.
Good characters and writing style. Engaging plot and storyline. I enjoyed this. Thank you for providing me with an ARC.
I didn't like the writing style but liked the story. She was so cool and he needed to be hit so badly. Maybe the pace should have been quicker.
I loved the plot of a female bodyguard falling for the person she was protecting. I know that guardian trope has been done before in novels but I don't feel that it's overly common. Typically, it's also the opposite in gender roles.
This was an enjoyable, humorous, and chemistry driven story but it did have some flaws. A minor yet gnawing flaw for me was some of the writing in dialogue for the main character. I wouldn't say I'm either for or against swearing in a character's dialogue but I always find it extremely irritating when characters use a made up word in exchange for a curse word. It may have been cute if it was only done once but when it became more frequent in the dialogue, I couldn't help but roll my eyes.
I really liked the direction the story was going in related to the mystery and intrigue until it reached the most climactic point. I was so disappointed! It was blatantly obvious what was about to happen and the resulting 'action' just seemed so predictable. It's unfortunate because prior to that climactic moment, the story (and my reading experience) was going so well. That whole 'event' has been done before so many times in books and movies that I was hoping for something different which I thought this story was going to achieve.
Overall, it was a good read but like I said, the result of the mystery/suspense plot was disappointing and clichéd.
***Thank you to the publisher for supplying me with an ARC of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review***
I was so excited for this romcom bodyguard romance. It sounded so good, and not like anything I’d read before! I thought it was a cute book, I didn’t love it, but it was an enjoyable read. This is a super light and easy read. I know a lot of people enjoyed it. I would recommend checking it out!
What a fascinating book. I was impressed by the storyline and the characters were all well written and complex. Where there are complex storylines combined with intriguing characters the reader experience is magnified tremendously. To have a book that is well written as well as entertaining is a delight. Reading is about escaping your world and entering another one. Here I forgot about my own life and was immersed in the world created by the author. I would recommend this book.
