This book had one of the best opening chapters to a rom com! There was immediate banter and sizzling chemistry between the two leads and I was hooked
There was an enchanting vulnerability to Zac I really enjoyed, and which made a perfect foil for spiky, tough (but ultimately soft hearted) Kat. I have to say that one of the best things about this book was Kat, her ex-army background and her professional competence as a bodyguard, a usually male dominated profession. She’s very different to most other heroines I’ve read in romances, and consequently was like a breath of fresh air.
I’d love to read more books with main characters who defy genre expectations. I also look forward to reading more books by Kathryn Freeman.
Up close and personal Kathryn Freeman
Zac is a film star with a stalker. Kat is his close protection officer but that is where the normal romcom theme ends.
Well written story with great characters, humour, intrigue, love and secrets.
Great read an unexpected page turner! As well as a few unexpected twists in the story.
This was an interesting premise, but I just couldn't fully engage with the story., Have attempted to go back a couple of times and reread, but just didn't grab me enough, w2hich was a real shame.
I wasnt in love with this story, I could not connect with characters at all and i wish I could but it was not all that bad there were moments I felt were great others not so much.
This one started really strong and finished... as expected. It has all the hallmarks of a great romance - somewhat forbidden love, suspense, interesting characters - and yet in combination it was just ok. I really wanted to like it more than I did.
I had a really hard time getting into this book. The prologue had me rolling my eyes, and it didn't end throughout the book. I barely finished and likely wouldn't recommend this to others.
British actor Zac Edwards is the latest heartthrob to hit the red carpets. Hot, talented and rich, he sends women wild…all except one.
Close protection officer Kat Parker hasn’t got time to play celebrity games. She has one job: to protect Zac from the stalker that seems to be dogging his every move.
Zac might get her hot under her very starched collar, but Kat’s a professional – and sleeping with Zac is no way part of her remit…
I was unable to read this book because of the terrible formatting of the ARC. I might borrow a copy from my library and then adjust my review and rating.
I enjoyed this rom-com and found it a quick and easy read. I found Zac and Kat engaging and likeable.
Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for allowing me to read this in exchange for an honest review.
This was a great new take on the bodyguard romance. The girl is the bodyguard! Heck yeah! I really enjoyed this fun romance.
It didn’t do it for me. I struggled to connect or even relate to the main characters which meant I didn’t enjoy it all that much really
I can't lie I have read a LOT of contemporary and this one didn't really stand out to me. Don't get me wrong I did enjoy it, but more in the sense of I found it just okay.
This was a very entertaining bodyguard romance with plenty of opportunities for bodyguard Kat to show off her skills. However, it could've done without the many scenes in which film star Zac feels emasculated because he's not the one doing the protecting and spent more time fleshing out their relationship because these characters do catch feelings quite quickly and it's not that obvious why they start falling for each other.
Charming British film star Zac has a stalker, so the studio he's working for hires a bodyguard to protect him: Kat Parker. Kat is former British military, a sniper, and still dealing with the demons from her past. And Zac can't stop flirting with her, no matter how many times she tells him nothing can happen between her and one of her clients. But that doesn't mean she doesn't want something to happen. Despite both keeping big secrets from the other, Zac and Kat continue to grow closer and closer. Meanwhile, Zac's stalker might turn out to be a bigger problem than anyone could've expected.
While this story was heavy on the unnecessary angst and drama, mostly created by the main characters not being open with each other and behaving quite childish a lot of the time, it was still a very entertaining read. Some parts of it felt rushed though, especially when it came to the male main character's background.
This book was a lot more serious than I had expected, featuring characters who were dealing (or not dealing) with severely traumatic experiences. While Kat's PTSD, related to her time in the army, gets most of the attention, the issues Zac is dealing with are sort of brushed aside. A shame, really, since I feel there's a treasure trove of unexplored potential waiting in his character.
I volunteered to read this book, through netgalley in exchange, for an honest review. The book is well written and the characters are described well. The family relationships within this book is well written. The characters are enjoyable. The pacing of this story is very good. The relationship between the actor and the bodyguard is good. This book a trigger warning about drug abuse. I highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone. This ebook is in stores now for $9.99 (AUD). So go get this great romance book.
This book was okay. This was my first book by this author and I might pick another one up, but I'm not sure. I think I had too high of hopes for this book. I didn't find the characters relatable and just really didn't enjoy the plot.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced digital copy of this book!
While I can't say I disliked this book, I can't also say I liked it throughout... Absolutely loved the beginning - it had all the makings of a perfect rom-com, and the witty banter and the chemistry that was just 'there' without feeling forced were an absolute delight. But while I hoped this would be the vein the book continues in, it didn't, and that's when it sorta got convoluted and it really took dedication to read through as opposed to the 'breezing through' that were the earlier chapters. It's not a bad book - just, don't expect the start to be setting the tone for the whole story
This book was just okay. This was first read from this author. I may pick up another. The romance was insta-love which is not my favourite trope and it was not a steamy as I expected. Also, it is about famous people which is another trope I am not a fan of. This book was just okay.
This is my first book that I have read by Kathryn Freeman and I would read more by her. Zac & Kat’s story didn’t sweep me away but I still liked their story overall.
I voluntarily reviewed this book.
Up close and personal is a romance where for once, the bodyguard is not a man but a woman. Our male hero isn't the big bad alpha type knowing how to protect himself and others and I found that refreshing. I loved seeing those roles swapped up.
In it, you'll meet Zac and Kat. One is a bit of a control-freak while the other is more relaxed and doesn't mind if there's a mess in the room or if they're late at a meeting. One encounter involving Champagnes and a shirt left them wanting more but unfortunately, a stalker is on the loose and Kat will soon be Zac's bodyguard.
Overall, I liked this book but I don't think I fell in love with these characters. They annoyed me too much (especially Zac) and I felt like the "no we can't, it's my job" thing was repetitive after a while. However, this book still provided an entertaining story I enjoyed reading.
(Thank you for letting me read and review an ARC via Netgalley)
It was such a pleasant change to read about the female bodyguard story. I loved this twist to the trope. Zac and Kat get thrown together because Zac is receiving weird, threatening notes signed with a kiss and Kat is assigned to be his bodyguard. Even though initially Zac is wary of Kat, he soon starts respecting and slowly falling for Kat. Their sex scenes were really hot and love story really sweet. The part I didn't like was when things got tough, the way Kat treated Zac. It was heartbreaking to see him treated like that but him still loving Kat through it. I would have definitely liked to see Kat grovel a little more to Zac for what she made him go through. At the end of it, it was a delicious romance that pulled me into the story and had me extremely invested in the outcome. The mystery stalker part of the book also didn't disappoint. I would recommend this book for a weekend read.
