After Mack, 17, was outed by a popular football player, she eventually reached her limit with his bullying antics and confronted him. After he called her a freak and told her she would never have a chance with any of the school’s cheerleaders and the only person in the school she could possibly hook up with was the lunch lady, Mack angrily, and later regrettably, walked away with her own challenge of not only kissing one cheerleader but all of them. With her best friend’s wavering help, Mack set upon that challenge with a new set of fitted clothes and an air of confidence…a confidence she needed since she never kissed a girl before.

This story dealt with a variety of topics. It was about homophobia in a Catholic high setting and all that entails. It was about being outed and then targeted by ignorant teenagers. It was about having that fearful conversation with parents about being gay...not knowing if they will face acceptance or rejection. But it also was about strong supportive friendships and experiencing that first special kiss and first girlfriend. The author actually took the reader through a gamut of emotions from start to finish. There were some laugh out loud scenes as well as heartwarming ones. It was an extremely well written, engaging, and entertaining read.

I highly recommend this book for high school students and maybe they might embrace the story’s ending as their own…especially in a Catholic school environment.
