This is an easy-to-follow cookbook for those looking to try low carb or even for those already using a low carb eating plan. There are different types of recipes such as paleo, gluten free, vegetarian, etc. so it is easy to find something to your taste. A wide range of flavors and types of food are included along with sections such as vegetarian and dessert. I really liked that the nutritional value is provided for each recipe. I wish that there were more photos, but all in all, this seems to be a solid entry into the low carb cookbook category. Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for allowing me to review this book.
This cookbook had some really great recipes. The recipes were easy to understand and not too complicated for the average cook. I enjoyed the illustrations and look forward to making these recipes for years to come.
*received for free from netgalley for honest review* My husband likes to do the low carb so im looking for new recipes often and this cookbook is awesome!! I doubt hell eat the meat and fruit ones (though I gladly would lmao) a lot of the recipes sound great, we really love asparagus so plan on trying out at kleast 2 of those recipes!
This is a great cookbook that will be perfect for anyone interested in a lower carb diet or quick weight loss. The book has a great variety of recipes. I love that each dish includes prep time, cook time, the nutrition information including macros. All of the recipes are relatively simple - nothing too elaborate or difficult. I can't wait to try the Harvest Salad, Zucchini Fritters, Sun Dried Tomato-Stuffed Chicken, Carnitas with Coleslaw, Cauliflower Steak Pizzas, and Lemon Cakes.
Thank you, Callisto Media and NetGalley, for a digital ARC!
Bek Davis’ 5-Ingredient Low-Carb Diet Cookbook: 100 Easy Recipes for Better Health is a good resource for folks looking to simplify their low-carb diets. I’ve been trying to eat less carbs, but I’m not a huge fan of meat and Davis’ had a number of suggestions of filling, tasty, easy to prepare recipes which would work for me.
There's nothing earthshatteringly new here, in the crowded land of low-carb cookbooks. But Davis writes in a friendly, approachable style that home cooks and dieters alike will enjoy. Recipes range from chorizo frittatas to chicken-mushroom melts. Even non-low-carb eaters will find something delicious to try. I could have used more photos of the finished recipes, but otherwise this is a solid, easy cookbook.
I thought this was a really well put together cookbook. I liked the information before the cookbook about what to keep in the house and the different terms for cooking. I liked the recipes that was given in the cookbook and I can not wait to try some.
This is a solid entry in the low-carb cookbooks if you are a fan of the standard American diet. Some recipes are paleo, gluten free, vegetarian, keto, etc. They tend to be pretty meat-heavy. Fiber-rich vegetables are included liberally, as are high-fat foods like heavy whipping cream and cream cheese.
There's a wide range of flavors and types of foods, with lots of high-fat favorite kinds of foods like sausage stuffed mushrooms, others in the pricier meat-lover range like veal and filet mignon dishes, a wide variety of healthier seafood dishes, and so on. There is a vegetarian section but you can always tell when non-vegetarians write vegetarian sections in cookbooks because those are all the recipes that seem aggressively healthy and/or less tasty. A desert section is included, though it uses Swerve (an artificial sugar substitute) and I personally don't cook with those.
Nutritional information is provided for each recipe, but like other cookbooks put out by this publisher there are very few photos (generally one per chapter). More photos would definitely enhance the cookbook. The author also goes into the reasons people choose low-carb diets and a little bit about the different kinds.
All in all, these are easy recipes that will please most low-carb folks. The foods are traditional foods familiar to most, and they're pretty easy to put together. Since I cook for family members who are vegetarian and allergic to dairy, there are very few recipes that will work for me. It's likely to be a hit with families who don't have special dietary needs, though.
I received a digital ARC of this book for the purpose of review.
This is my favorite cookbook of recent times. The meals are simple and easy to make. Very few ingredients and short cook times. I bookmarked several recipes to try soon. I wish there were more images.
Very thorough cookbook. It starts with an education of the low carb lifestyle and what items you need to make the recipes. All of the recipes are helpful as they are labeled. Some are 30 minute recipes, dairy free, gluten free, one pot or pan, vegan, and vegetarian. I liked the fact there were low carb smoothie recipes as it is hard to find those. Were tired many of the beef recipes and found them to be simple and delicious, I highly recommend this cookbook if you are trying to go low carb.
I enjoyed the 5-Ingredient Low Carb Diet CookBook. It is a diet cookbook, as well as a healthy way to eat. It one eats HEALTHY then the pounds will drop. I recommend it and have tried a few already. GET IT!
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. While low-carb doesn't seem to be as hot as it has been in the past, I think that many people will enjoy using this new 5 ingredients low carb book.
This is a five ingredient cookbook that gives you a ton of low carb recipes that are easy to follow. The main idea of the cookbook is simple cooking.
What did I like? The pictures for this cookbook are AMAZING. Most of the recipes involve a lot of greens which was a tad expected but the recipes are geared towards being healthy. I love how the author also gives substitutions, and variations... for me this is important because it helps you really make a recipe your own. From the Antipasto salad to the Tuna poke bowls... I was happy with the different recipes. The author also gives you pointers for calories per serving and if the recipe follows a type....gluten free, or vegetarian are a few examples. So wide variety of usage, and some really great looking recipes.
Would I buy or recommend? Just based on the beautiful pictures, I would definitely buy. Not that there were a huge amounts of new recipes but I’d just love it if half of them turn out as good as the pictures. There is a chocolate pudding made with avocado that sounds delicious in the desserts too.
Thoughts for the author? Congratulations on your new release! Great book and omg the pictures. I received a copy from Netgalley to observe and here is my opinion.
P love, love, love this cookbook. The advice is practical, the recipes look delicious and are innovative. They also use basic ingredients and techniques.Even minimally-equipped kitchens will have great, low-carb dishes.
In keeping with today's cooking trends, there are plenty of vegetarian recipes and even more when ou consider variations. Many recipes use one-pot cooking. All the recipes include nutrition information.
The keto diet still seems to be all the rage right now, but it's really a hard diet to maintain long term. A low-carb diet that incorporates a lot of fresh vegetables is really the way to go and that is the focus of this cookbook.
I really like this cookbook for a number of reasons:
1) It's informative. It lays out the benefits of low-carb eating and the link between carbs and diabetes.
2) The layout. It's easy to read and while it's not strictly 5 ingredients, the additional ingredients are things you would use for most dishes (olive oil, salt, pepper, etc).
3) The ingredients are no-frill. I can walk into any Kroger or WalMart and find the items on the list.
4) You likely already have most of what you need to make these recipes (a blender, a skillet, etc).
5) Recipes are designated as gluten-free, vegetarian, dairy-free, etc. to make meeting dietary needs easier.
My only complaint (and this applies to all cookbooks) is that it needs more photos. There isn't a photo of every recipe. I look forward to making the Brussel Sprout Hash and Cracked Eggs and a photo would be nice. Same for the Harvest Salad with acorn squash. It's a fairly straightforward recipe but I would still like to see what the finished product is going to look like before I start.
There is a good variety of dishes in the book, from basic American foods to Mediterranean dishes, Greek, and Mexican. This is also a great cookbook for anyone who just wants to learn how to incorporate more vegetables into their meals. 4.5 stars, 5 if it had more photos.
This is a great low-carb cookbook that I could see myself using night after night. Very straightforward recipes that have minimal ingredients that are not exotic. The ingredients are readily available in my pantry or refrigerator on a regular basis.
I ended up giving the book 4/5 stars, but wish I could have given it 5. I'll review why below.
PROS:
1) Easy recipes with minimal ingredients written for the average busy person who wants simple but flavorful low carb meals
2) Most of the ingredients I know what they are and have them on hand
3) Lots of dessert recipe. I still have a sweet tooth even if I'm trying for low carbs
4) Lots of variations noted on recipes. I like when I have extra options such as when ground lamb is not available, you can use ground beef.
5) Lots of vegetarian entrees that look yummy and my family would likely eat, even though we are carnivores
6) Recipes identified as dairy and gluten free. My family is lactose intolerant, so I wish there were more dairy free options in low-carb recipes as most use cream cheese, sour cream, half and half, or heavy whipping cream. However, we have a local store that carries lactose-free cream cheese, sour cream, and half and half.
CONS:
1) Minimal pictures. Especially on an electronic version where price of printing color images is not an issue, I deserve a picture with every recipe
2) Not truly 5 ingredients or less (but the not counted ones are easy like salt and pepper and olive oil)
3) No glycemic index in the book. I think it is important to have an easy access glycemic index in low-carb cookbooks.
Bottom line is I would use this cookbook on a regular basis.
Aside from a startling lack of photography, I feel like this is a solid cookbook. I liked the recipes and while at first glance I thought the recipes with the steak and scallops would blow my family's food budget on one meal, I think that with some planning the recipes could be affordable as long as you don't try to do surf and turf nightly.
What a great cookbook. It’s reader friendly with calories but also macros. All the recipes were simple and didn’t use a lot of ingredients. I personally loved (and highly recommend) the Shrimp Caprese and Cobb Salad with Poached Egg.
This cookbook was beautifully done! Thank you to @Netgalley and @CallistoMedia for allowing me to read an early readers’ copy. The illustrations throughout the book are super vivid and make your mouth water as your page through the cookbook. These recipes for being a low- carb diet sound super appetizing and I can't wait to try in particular the healthy hearty chili, antipasto salad, spaghetti squash, and Mediterranean cod. The author has 100 to choose from so there is something for everyone and the ingredients are all affordable and easily accessible. The sections are smoothies/ breakfast, soups/ salads, starters/ sides, seafood/ poultry, pork & lamb, desserts, and even a section for vegetarians. The author has a degree in culinary art from Lousiana so each recipe is carefully cultivated from a professional. I do enjoy celebrity cookbooks but, if I'm going for a diet cookbook, in particular, I like to know that I'm taking recipes from a professional chef and I loved that she even includes a personal note at the beginning of the book where she shares her story of being overweight at a time in her life and how starting a low-carb diet has changed her life for the better.
