Did not finish at 21%. The story did not hold my interest. I was not invested in what was going to happen next.
The Lost Girls of Devon by Barbara O’Neal was a complex, multilayered, dramatic novel about four generations of women, about their deep hurt, love and connection. A wonderful story of forgiveness and painful truths as well as new beginnings. Thank you NetGalley, the author and publisher for the review copy. All options are my own.
This is a heartwarming book.
The characters were well developed, the plot kept my interest
I felt it did drag at points though
The Lost Girls of Devon by Barbara O’Neal is the story of going home and making peace with the past. Zoe Fairchild hasn’t been home to Devon in years and it’s time to go back. She takes her daughter and they go back to help find her mother’s caregiver. Going back is tough because she has been estranged from her mother and she doesn’t know how things will go. As the women unite in search for Zoe, old hurts come up and feelings are raw. The village comes with its own problems and Zoe is overwhelmed. This is such a good story of forgiveness and redemption. The characters were so real and the story line was as well. Life is tricky and there isn’t one way to navigate it and Zoe and the women in her life are just trying their best. I want to thank the author and Netgalley for my copy for an honest review. It was my pleasure to read & review this one. This was a four star read for me. I really did enjoy it and hope you do too.
Barbara O'Neal mastered family drama in The Lost Girls of Devon. Well-developed characters. Secrets, betrayal, love, and truth! Such a great read!
Thank you to NetGalley for letting me having an advanced copy of this book. Unfortunately it has taken me a while to read this book, coming back to it time and time again. The book has a slow start and I felt it could have moved quicker however once in the middle of the book I felt the story line developed and I started to enjoy the story. Overall a good story however could have been more engaging to begin with.
I liked the story and finished the book. The plot did seem to drag a bit. We did not need to hear the back story repeatedly or told over and over again why the adult daughter hated her mother.
I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know these different and very interesting women. All of them had faults, but they are all trying to work through them in their own way.
The book was a blend of women's fiction and mystery with a dash of love story. In my opinion the cover was misleading. It was stunning, but had little bearing on the story and gave the impression that the story was lighter than it was.
This was a great read with some serious themes of loss, abandonment, betrayal, mothering, atonement, missing persons, forgiveness, courage, and inter-generational relationships. It strives to emphasize the importance of listening, really listening, to those you care about.
The mystery element lent the novel heft, and was well plotted.
I expect this story will be loved by anyone who enjoys well written women's fiction with a satisfying ending.
Highly recommended!
A great family saga told in different chapters by four generations of women. The characters and the plot line draw you in from the start and there are plenty of twists and secrets to keep your interest throughout.
A book about family betrayals, and long buried secrets. Well developed characters and a story line that draws you right in,
Thank you to Lake Union Publishing and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this. I think I came in expecting more from the book and definitely would not label this as a thriller or mystery. Its a family drama with a bit of mystery if you ask me. This was a slow paced read and at times I wanted to be done but overall it was a nice story.
Beautiful story of three generations of women and the secrets, mistakes and forgiveness that comes with being a family. Another wonderful book by Barbara O'Neal.
Another great read by Barbara O’Neal. Love the details of her setting, the cross generational characters and the story. I haven’t been disappointed by an O’Neal book yet.
This was an unputdownable read about 4 generations of women in a single family. The matriarch, is an accomplished mystery writer, but at 87 she is beginning to suffer from dementia. Her daughter Poppy, after travelling the world, has returned to look after her mom. Zoe, Poppy's daughter, was actually raised from a very young age by her Grandma, Lillianne, when her mother Poppy abandoned her in order to travel. Finally, Isabel, Zoe's daughter, was recently "#bullied" in school, and is herself, struggling to cope with her own, day to day existence. When the book opens, Zoe and Isabel decide to travel to England, to check up on Lillianne, and, for an escape .... What ensues is anything but ....
I loved this book. Lillianne, Zoe, Poppy and even Isabel, were forced to confront their lives and many of the decisions they had made in the past, that not only impacted their own lives, but the lives of their immediate family, and even their close friends. In doing so, they realize, there comes a time when you either face your demons, or else they remain with you ... haunting you ... until sometimes, ... it becomes ... "too late". Do you have demons lurking? This book really had me thinking of my demons.

I love the absorbing plot and authentic characters in this novel. Barbara O'Neal has a way of creating a world that feels vivid and real, and her characters feel true and deep.
This author always reels me in. I thought it was a quick read, and I enjoyed learning more about the characters.
Another amazing book by a new favorite author! This was amazing! Zoe had a a rough start in life. After leaving her small town she finds herself going back years later to help a friend. In this mystery that will hug your heart I promise you will find a new favorite read!
I'm a big fan of Barbara O'Neal, and this was another good book from her. While it wasn't one of my favorites, I did still really enjoy the story and the relationships between the women. One thing I always like about O'Neal's books are the setting, and I enjoyed the charming Devon setting. I definitely look forward to more O'Neal books in the future!

I quite enjoyed most parts of this book. It was exciting enough to keep my interest and I stayed up in order to finish it and see what happened. I appreciated the different perspectives in the writing. The author was good at creating characters you could recognize just by the tone of their voice. The ending was a bit cheesy but still enjoyable.
