Great read! Was genuinely unsure of what the outcome was going to be and totally didn’t see it coming. Absolutely looking forward to recommending this to customers!
I tried to like this book, but the more I read, the less I enjoyed it. This is the first JP Delaney book that I did not enjoy.
I read this in one sitting (during a 4 hour flight) so needless to say I couldn't put it down. The first 25% or so were a slower build, introducing you to characters and the surroundings in their lives. After that 25% mark though I felt as if there was something new to take in every chapter! By the end I couldn't read quick enough to find out what really happened. I didn't feel as if there were any obvious hints to the twist and enjoyed it thoroughly. JP Delaney again will be on my radar for future reads.
A quick thrilling read! Any parents worst nightmare. I really enjoyed the plot and couldn’t put this one down! A bit predictable at points though.
I loved the other two books by thus author, but unfortunately I only liked this one. I read this while pregnant and thus found the "switched at birth" premise interesting (and scary!), but the whole story didn't have the oomph that I expected.
I've read a few books by Delaney and he is always reliable for providing an entertaining and well-plotted thriller. While the plot wasn't unique and I did guess a lot of the twists ahead of time, that didn't really take away from my enjoyment of the book as a whole. The characters felt fairly well developed and the story moved at a fast pace, which was what I was looking for in a weekend read. I also liked the way the story was resolved and how it all came together in the end. Recommended!
This was a light and easy thriller. The only problem I had with this story was with Pete and how ignorant he seemed. "Playing Nice" was an enjoyable read and I would recommend it to someone looking for a light thriller as a beach read!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy in exchange for an honest review.
I received this book free of charge from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
I really enjoyed this. A twisty plot and a cast of characters that all initially were likable but gradually displayed their true colors. Could be a book that could be tough for people who have dealt with NCIUs or even adoption.
Overall, good book and one I’d recommend to others.
The first half of the book was predictable, but I was still intrigued. As we delved deeper into the lives of the two families things picked up. I think parts of this book portray every parent's worst nightmare. Finding out that you took the wrong kid home from the hospital is bad enough...but things get way more complicated than that. Poor Pete and Maddie just can't seem to catch a break. I have to say though that the ending was very satisfying.
Two babies get swapped at the hospital and the parents decide to have an amicable relationship so they all can have a part in the kids lives; however, it all goes bad when one family decides not to play by the rules.
A switched at birth nightmare - this novel from J.P. Delaney attempts to answer an age old question - is it nature or nurture that has the most impact on a child's life?
This was an enjoyable read but I did feel that the "villain" of our story was very one dimensional and that diminished a little bit of the read for me.
I’ll tell you now this is a great book , because it’s a fantastic read, especially if you are like me and into psychological thrillers. I could write a lengthy and wordy review but if what I have written can say what I thought of this book then it’s long enough! Thank you for writing such great books!
An intense, emotional and thrilling read! A parent's worst nightmare. A stranger (Miles) shows up on Pete's doorstep claiming to be his son's biological father. Miles claims his son was switched with Pete's, and has the DNA results to prove it. A nightmare full of secrets.
What a terrible thing to happen to two families. Lately I’ve been reading books that seem to all have the same thing going on and I guess the ending. Nit with this one! Jo Delaney is a fabulous author and tells a story well. Pick this one up!
What a twisted, edge-of-your seat, nail-biting story. I can’t imagine what Maggie and Pete experience when opening the door to their house opens up their lives to a true nightmare. I won’t rehash the storyline, but be prepared for a rollercoaster ride of emotions. This book is family drama at its finest. The characters are well developed. The ending merged the various aspects and packs a punch!
Thank you to NetGalley and Ballantine Books for my advanced review copy. All opinions and thoughts are my own.
Phew! What a heck of a page-turner. I could not stop thinking about it when I wasn’t reading it; thinking of all the possibilities of how it could end. And it did not disappoint!!! Fantastic, original story.
This story had me trapped for hours because I just had to keep reading to find out what was going to happen next. I couldn’t imagine dealing with the situation presented in the book and wasn’t even sure what I thought the correct solution might be. The ending was satisfying. Another great thriller from JP Delaney.
This book is every parents' nightmare. Haven't we all wondered what if? And to find out because someone knocks on your door saying our children were switched, horrendous!
I hadn't previously read any books by this author, but I greatly enjoyed it, recommend Playing Nice, and will definitely read more by this author.
I really liked this one. It was quick, suspenseful, and she did a great job making Miles absolutely contemptible, which helped the plot a lot and it made the ending even more satisfying. I had a feeling about the twist, but it didn't detract from liking the book. Definitely a great vacation, beach, or any time you want a quick thriller to read.
I am sorry for not reviewing fully but I don’t have the time to read this at the moment. I believe that it wouldn't benefit you as a publisher or your book if I only skimmed it and wrote a rushed review. Again, I am sorry for not fully reviewing!
