The book was alright. But the smut was just awkward and not enjoyable. Wich also made the characters chemistry a bit ..odd and wierd. it started out good, but they did not match.

The publisher's note says "This is an over-the-top, insta-love quick read romance with super steamy love scenes. If that's not your bag, you'd best move along!" and that's just what this book delivers! The chemistry is hot, and if you're in it more for the sex and less for the complicated relationship development, well then this is the book for you! There are also plenty of funny laugh-out-loud moments.

A super short, super steamy romance about a baker competing to make a celebrity wedding cake and unexpectedly finding love on the way. This is a very fun series, and I've been looking forward to Rei's book since her character showed up in the first book. She's super fun, and I loved all her interactions with the other characters in this book.

I received a copy of this book from netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Red Velvet Rake is book #4 in the Sugar and Spice series but can be read as a stand alone. This steamy Romantic Comedy introduces us to Rei, a skilled baker, competing in a baking competition being held by celebrity Michael Godwin. Rei has a one night stand with Michael's assistant, Tom, and things soon become complicated. Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for my copy

The characters and storyline were both enjoyable and easy to read. I loved it all do much. I really hope we get more stories from this author/series. Happy reading everyone!!

The story follows Rei, a baker with a penchant for sarcasm. She is one of the competitor in a baking contest. Until one night she spend some quality time with one of the judges who is also judge in the contest. When Rei and Tom (the sexy British guy) decided to say nothing because it meant literally nothing to them, the thought that is will be done and dusted.

But when Tom needs her to play the role of his girlfriend that's when the the whole drama begins. Although Rei agrees to play a along with the fake relationship, things steps to change. As feelings emerges and sparks fly, the lines between the fake and the real soon begins to blend.

A steamy romance novel which was entertaining as hell. There were so many laugh out loud moments and the author used many hilarious and creative phrases such as 'sloth crawl', 'Cheetah bolt' it was quite hystericay funny. The story in itself was not what I expected because really had high hopes for this but it turned out to be a cliche one. The funny moments were the sole reason for continuing the book till the end, however the story its charm by the middle after novel.

This is the fourth book in the sugar and spice series.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for providing an arc of the book in order for an honest review.

I should have known better! This book should come with a explicit sex sticker on it. I don't generally read reviews because I don't want to be influenced - though I'm sure someone has mentioned this is chick porn. I thought the writing was fun, though the characters all seemed very rebellious cookie cutter, but I stopped reading after the first explicit scene. No judgments, I have readers that love this sort of thing and I'm sure it will entice other people! I'm leaving a one star as a warning to others who MIGHT read reviews and like for sexual situations to be left to the imagination. I really with there could be an N/A choice, so if a person is unable to finish (hmm, sounds like a libido problem, haha), the author doesn't get dinged.

Having already read the Cake King I had to go back and read the other two books in the series so I could get to this one because I like to read things in order. I like Rei from the start so o figured I would like her story too. It’s interesting to see other things that were going on in the baking competition from the POV of the contestants. Some kind of magic was going on in the final days of the competition when all the remaining ladies are suddenly finding their loves. Another short and sweet romance.

This book started off great- it set the tone and was the perfect intro to MC Rei. Her "sloth crawl" and "cheetah sprint" descriptions were hysterical.
There was so much I enjoyed about this book- the baking challenges and descriptions, the diversity, and the sex positivity were all wonderful.
That being said, I felt like the pace was good up until maybe 80% through the book. Then I had that feeling as though I had accidentally sat on the TV remote and it started to inadvertently fast forward. All of a sudden it seemed like details and scenes were more or less just skipped over, which I found made things hard to follow. So, while it was a light and fast read, I wish there had just been a little more to the last part of the book, such as the final of the baking competition.
The steaminess of this book definitely rivaled Rebekah Weatherspoon's novels. I will definitely be looking into reading the rest of this series.

#RedVelvetRake #NetGalley

Another fun novella from Rosie Chase about the Cake competition. I read the Cake King and was really excited to hear Rei's story. I skipped books 2 &3 and went right to this one. Rei and Tom are an unlikely pair -- she's brash and funny, he's the epitome of uptight British dude. After a drunken hook up, Tom and Rei continue to fake a relationship for Tom's BFF. As with all fake relationship tropes, they find they both an actual relationship.

I loved Rei's inner monologue -- how hard she tries to resist Tom and "stupid adorable face." Also, her relationship with her mentor, Evelyn are a funny insight into understanding Rei. Tom's character is a little less detailed in this book, but maybe there were more details in books 2 &3?

Overall, this was a very fast fun read. I like hearing the same story from another perspective... Up next is the Cupcake Queen, Danielle.

This book was so good! The characters were so well rounded, you felt like you actually knew them! The plot was so good you didn't want the book to end!

A fun read, the story of Rei and Tom. A fake date to help him out, but soon she wants more.

I liked how this is set at the same time as the other books in the series so you get a different perspective to what is happening in the competition as well

4.5 stars
I might be a little in love with Rosie Chase right now. This was my first book by the author and let me say, it brought all the things! Red Velvet Rake was funny, sexy, and the chemistry was just pure naughty perfection!

The book opens with our heroine, Rei, wakes in the bed of her lastest conquest as he's talking hilarious sleepy nonsense and attempting to do what she terms the "Sloth Crawl".
"It works like this: I start with my feet, moving them nice and slow, follow with my knees, then my hips, and once my legs are mostly free, I basically turn into a liquid and spill out onto the floor in a silent, mostly naked puddle. From there, I can sneak around the room collecting my clothes and whatever stray food I find lying around and then slip out the door unnoticed."
LOL!

I absolutely love a fake relationship but what I never realized was that I love a stuffy Brit who ends up having a deliciously dirty mouth when you wind him up enough trope. The chemistry between Rei and Tom was oh so good and I just loved how unapologetically naughty Rei was. I totally want to be her new BFF.

Also, I'm not gonna lie, I totally wanted to read this book based on the cover art alone.

Red Velvet Rake was a breath of fresh air. I had kind of forgotten that books could be this fun. I am absolutely going to stalk the crap out of Rosie Chase's books now. I think the Cupcake Queen is up next and I cannot wait!

Red Velvet Rake by Rosie Chase is a delightfully steamy rom-com that was thoroughly enjoyable from beginning to end!

Spoiler-free Summary:

After a hazy night of fun sex super fun Rei wakes up next to the extremely uptight British Tom. She has to find a way to crawl her way out of his room and get back to winning the baking competition she was working so hard for.

The one snag is that Tom needs a massive favor, a fake girlfriend. Rei agrees to the plan as long as he is willing to agree to her terms. The problem with this plan is she's really starting to like Mr. Grumpy Pants.

What I loved:
1. This book reads like a quirky and fun rom-com movie. The author does an excellent job and describes Rai and Tom in a way that I actually pictured Rai doing all the crazy things she did.
2. The Steam: Holy moly this book is STEAMY. Whew, I felt dirty while reading it while commuting home!
3. The communication: While yes there are the understandable miscommunication there are in books the main characters approach things head on. There is no need for them to have mind reading capabilities because they are both people who state what is on their mind, it's actually quite refreshing.
4. The self awareness: This book does an excellent job at poking fun at itself. It was actually pretty funny to read it!

What I did not love:
1. The natural chemistry and love development: I never truly felt like they were in love. Well I guess more why they were in love.
2. The language: I could see this being spoken by young 20 year olds, you just never really expect to read it in a published book.

Overall it was an enjoyable read and I think I would pick up another story by this author.

I received this book as an ARC from NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

It’s been 48 hours since I started the The Cake King, the first book in the Sugar and Spice series by Rosie Chase. Each book is quickly devoured as you reenact the wedding cake bake off from each of the contestants point of view. This book is from Rei’s point of view. She is spontaneous and fun, after having a one night stand with Tom, the Cake King’s assistant, she agrees to be his fake girlfriend whilst his best friend is in town. A quick steamy read.
