This book has a very simple story. It is also adorable. The art is simple, not lavish on details but not lacking at all. The simple illustrations suit the story, conveying emotion through rich colours and the expressions of the dogs as well as the loneliness of the wild. Young readers may be captivated by the wild idea of getting lost at night with no idea where to go and what to do. They may rejoice in Hazel and Kaya's journey back home. A nice book for a cosy bedtime story.
This book is about two dogs who go on an adventure and get lost. They eventually find their way back home. I thought this was a cute little story for a young child. The illustrations were very cute and followed along with the story perfectly. Being that this is a childrens book it is just the right length and doesn't add unnecessary content.
Me and my 3 1/2 year old son really enjoyed it.
I love dogs so this children's book instantly caught my eye! I thought the story was very sweet and the illustrations were very nicely finished. Fellow dog owners out there will fully relate to the story. I often wonder what mischief my two get up when I am not around or the adventures they would have out in the world. My younger dog would definitely be the instigator!
I can really imagine myself as a young child, tucked up in bed, mum reading me this story and my thoroughly enjoying it! Similarly, I can imagine myself reading this book to children I know now or my future children as a heartwarming, adventure story. My only wish would be to see more about what Hazel and Kaya get up to on their adventure, more detail, even just a couple of extra pages or paragraphs would do the trick!
Overall it was a lovely childrens book with a fun story, lovable characters and lovely illustrations!
What a cute sweet story! It has beautiful illustrations with super sweet puppies. Thank you Doodle and Peck Publishing/Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA), Members' Titles via NetGalley for the ARC copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
This book was ok. My daughter enjoyed it when I read it to her. It is not one I could read over and over. I am sure others will enjoy it.
This book was adorable and so fun. The illustration was awesome, it was explicit enough that probably only the illustration would tell the story, but the story telling was also beautiful and sweet. I loved it. I often read children's fiction and wish i could read it with a child beside me to see their reaction and understanding of the book, specially the books about animals are always interesting for children. I recommend this book.
I received a review copy from the publisher via Netgalley.
This picture book really is for smaller children, so I reflect that in my rating. It's a very simple but cute story about two dogs who escape through an open gate into the wilderness to have fun. When night comes, both pups don't know how to get home.
For me personally, some of the images were a tad too simple. I also think that some spread pages didn't really use the open space that well, with lots of flat and empty monochromatic space. I really feel like the negative space could have been used a bit better and more creatively.
The story and text is simple, which is fine since the book is for young children.
Otherwise, I liked the illustrations just fine and the story was cute.
A cute picture book about dogs that get loose and can't find their way back home. The text is peppy and avoids the common pitfall of first time authors of drudging on and on and on. The story isn't particularly original but it is sweet and will appeal to toddlers with its bright and vibrant illustrations.
I'll be honest, I was anxious at the beginning of the book when the gate was left open and the dogs decided to go explore. They go on a fun little adventure to the pond, which has really cold water, and the facial expressions of the dogs are hilarious. The illustrations are fantastic and really draw me in! This is a cute little story about finding your way home again after having fun adventures.
Pups on the Run! By Hannah Beene Hurdle is an adventurous story about Kaya and Hazel who one day tumbles down the hill for a journey but instead loses their way back home.
I found the illustrations to be very brilliant, catchy, colourful, energetic, interactive and gorgeous. The book is an interesting story for kids and you can have it as their bedtime story so they can have adventurous dreams.
I would recommend it for kids age 2 to 6.
Pups on the Run! by Hannah Beene Hurdle is a fun book for very young readers. It follows two pups as they go on an adventure and have a super fun day. Once the sun goes down though, they try to find their way home and get a little scared when they get lost. Follow along as they cleverly retrace their steps and come home to a good meal. The story is simple but engaging for little children and it is accompanied by fun illustrations by Marissa Pruett.
he story and illustrations are nice enough, but this book didn’t stand out for me. ‘Pups on the Run’ tells a story of two mischievous pups who get lost and ultimately find their way home by retracing their steps. The book is pretty brief, so the target audience would likely be children about 2-3.5 years old.
Thank you to NetGalley and Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA) for providing an ARC of this book.
Super sweet story with two pups who go on an adventure. Loved the way they found themselves back home by retracing their steps. Very cute.
I really enjoyed this children's book. Pups on the Run! is a sweet tale of two dogs who lose their way while out on an adventure. I enjoyed reading this story to my step children, and they both enjoyed the illustrations and point of view. I particularly enjoyed this story due to having mischievous pups of my own!
