Edge of your seat thriller, fast paced many twists and turns. Highly recommended for readers of Liv Constatnine, Harlan Coben and Julie Clark
This is my first Lisa Unger book, but it won't be my last. I love the mystery and romance of the train, so I think it's a perfect setting to launch a thriller, plus it nicely plays homage to "Strangers on a Train."
This is one of those thrillers that also includes depth of storytelling, which is my favorite type of story. While it's somewhat predictable, the quality of writing kept me wanting more.
Many thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for sharing this book with me. All thoughts are my own.
I am sorry for not reviewing fully but I don’t have the time to read this at the moment. I believe that it wouldn't benefit you as a publisher or your book if I only skimmed it and wrote a rushed review. Again, I am sorry for not fully reviewing!
4.5 stars_Okkkk this was a cool story!
Nilufer summarised this book so well, I’m not even going to try:
“Two stranger women on a train share their most intimate secrets: one of them is cheated by her husband as the other one is having an affair with a married man. They share vodka, a few laughs, their resentments, regrets and they say their goodbyes. As of them thinks their paths will never be crossed, the other one already starts planning their next encounter.”
What a premise! This book got me from the very first chapter! The police rings at the door saying your nanny is missing…and the police suspects you…
This book is told in different POVs, which kept me entertained, where I couldn’t put down the book! If you like books about blackmail, revenge, cheating, lying; this one is for you!
Lisa delivers a clever, and twisty psychological thriller! I highly recommend this book!
Confessions on the 7:45 is touted as a thriller, and I suppose it could be called a domestic thriller, but it felt more like a drama to me. It does have a certain tension, and Unger does know her stuff when it comes to atmosphere, but this one was entirely too predictable. There wasn't a single twist that surprised me, There were also a few too many points of view. Some were necessary, but some just felt like filler and slowed things down. It's those lags in the story that bother me the most. Lisa Unger clearly has talent, and there were elements here that were great, including the character development of the main players in this game. I just would've liked some actual suspense in the story, something to catch me off guard. I did keep reading, and I didn't skim (even though I wanted to once or twice), so it's safe to say that I was interested in how things would come out for Selena and Pearl and Pop and Graham... I'm sure you get my point. There were things I liked and things I didn't, but the book was worth the read., so I landed somewhere in the middle.
I absolutely love books about scandal and secrets. I devoured this book! I love the twists and turns it takes as well as the viewpoints of the different characters. You never know who you can trust...
Lisa Unger always brings the thrills and chills and "Confessions on the 7:45" is certainly no exception!
Lisa Unger is so brilliant! This book my start as an homage to Strangers on A Train, but the wonderfully talented Unger twists and turns us into an entirely different tale. We aren't quite sure what's going to happen next--but we do know, on every page, we are in the hands of a gifted storyteller.
I really enjoy Lisa Unger's books and this one did not disappoint. It grabs you from the start and holds on until the very end.
Sometimes when we are alone on a bus, train, or plane, we will strike up a conversation with the person in the seat next to us. Sometimes we share things with them, we might not with the people we know. Why? Because we aren't going to see them again, so what is the big deal? When Selena does this, her whole life is turned upside down. Getting to the bottom of the secrets she learns and shared will be quite an adventure.
This is a great read and a well detailed plot that kept me engaged from the very start.
I really liked the well thought out characters and found them to be believable. I cannot wait to read what the author brings out next.
As a daily train commuter, I found the plot to be completely plausible and found myself wondering about fellow riders and the secrets they might be transporting. You never can really know who you're talking to and what their motives might be in engaging you.
RATING: 3.5 STARS

I enjoyed Confessions on the 7:45. It was a fun ride, even though some bits were unbelievable and predictable. I think that is my issue with domestic suspense. I am looking for gritty cases, with flawed characters and psychological villains, and this genre is based on unlikeable characters and formulaic stories (complete with twist ending). I think I figured out a solution...I need to go in like I would with an action or romance film. Don't look into it too deep and suspend your belief. As I started to let go of my curiosity and just read it as it came, I started to like the story a lot more.
***I received a complimentary copy of this ebook from the publisher through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.***
I enjoyed this book, but I found it pretty predictable and transparent. While the premise of the story was intriguing, I was able to figure out a lot of what happened before it happened, which is not usual for me.
I did like the ending and the eventual relationship between the two main characters. Unfortunately, there was more about the book I didn't like: the anti-male bias, the multiple points of view (SO MANY points of view), the love triangle and, most importantly, the timeline. Try as I could I couldn't fit everything the author was providing the reader in the time frame she provided. I just couldn't make the math work, which was a major issue for me.
I've read many Lisa Unger books and enjoyed them all. This one may be her best....
Told from many POV, we see a young woman facing a crisis in her marriage that will require her to make a decision that will change her life, and those of her children, no matter what she decides. This young woman has a discussion with a stranger on the train that is taking her home one evening. She will never see this woman again, so what's the harm?
The story bounces from one character to another, giving us pieces of their stories until they all run together as the thriller ramps up. If you have never read a Lisa Unger book, start here and you will find out why so many readers love her work and wait patiently....well probably not patiently....for each new book to come out.
At first this book reminded me a lot of "Strangers on a Train". Its the story of three women and the man who brought them all together. Its a story of confidence games that eventually got out of hand. Its the story of love and deception, and of families torn apart. Well plotted but it was rather too convenient how everything fitted together.
I always love Lisa Unger’s books, and this was no exception! Super twisty and fun, I gasped out loud several times. I did not see the twists coming! I couldn’t put it down, and read it all in one day. This may be my favorite title by her yet!
Confessions on the 7:45 was a book I was really looking forward to reading. Lisa Unger is one of those authors that I've really grown to enjoy. I feel whenever she has a book coming out I always add it to my TBR. However the moment I started reading this I just felt a bit flustered. Each chapter is a different person's pov. That is normally something I love. In this book I just felt a bit overwhelmed and just felt a bit unnecessary to me. Sure each of these characters tied into the story but so many times I felt I didn't need that person's perspective. I feel because of this I feel the story fell flat. It's a decent story when you think about it. I just ended up not being blown away by it.
*Thank you so much to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinions.*
Thank you to Netgalley and Park Row for providing me with an e-ARC of Confessions on the 7:45 in exchange for an honest review!
2.5 rounded up!
Confessions on the 7:45 was an example of things happening, but also things.. not happening at the same time? Lisa Unger's writing was fantastic, but the story truly failed for me & is not memorable whatsoever. Plus, too many POVs -- I get that it all ties up at the end, but it still felt like an absolute Mess. It's a decent book, but not one that sticks out at all.
This was a great thriller. Dark and layered and a fast read. I like how the author touched on the possibly of darkness in people.
What a wild and crazy ride this was!!! Just when I thought I had it all figured out, I get blindsided! Really love when that happens. I enjoyed the psychology behind the relationships, and at time was thoroughly creeped out. There is just someone about the evil of humankind that runs shivers down my back.
