Leila Slimani book "Sex and Leis" is a refreshingly candid depiction of society and culture of the sex lives of Morroccan women. As a French-Morroccan women Slimani has captured voices and stories that may otherwise be overlooked or not talked about.
I felt like it just told a familiar story over again and while it was controversial and discussed a place I didn’t know much about, I didn’t feel like it really gave me much of anything new.
So, I was immediately interested in this title. As a soon-to-be grad student in the field of Social Worker, this topic really interests me. It is all about Moroccan women and their culture. This book explains that women, when it comes to their sexual status, can be either a virgin or wife. There is no in between. Morocco is a very harsh setting for women and makes one appreciate living in a country where they are given their freedoms. The attitudes toward sex in Morocco are hostile and any "taboo" is punishable by the highest order.
This was a quick and riveting read. I am very happy to have stumbled upon this slim, intellectual novel.
