The beginning of the book is great and made me want to read the rest of the book. It catches you from the first page.
This sneak peak definitely left me wanting more! I’ve never actually read a vampire book before, but I must admit there’s something so tantalizing about the concept. In the sneak peak alone there were so many parts that made my heart race because of how sensual and atmospheric the writing was especially the last scene from the perspective of the vampire.
•
Pros:
+very compelling villain
+makes me want to read the rest of the book
+main character seems to be very 3 dimensional and i want to know more about her past
•
Cons:
-some repetitive language that i caught on too (or perhaps...)
-probably a little knit picky but i hate when it would switch to using french words to describe something. it just seemed a little unnecessary and didn’t really add to the character. I get that she’s french but it honestly took away when i couldn’t understand what she was saying (and i’m french! so i knew what she was saying most of the time)

Overall i’m really excited to continue reading and see how the plot continues forward! I can’t wait to review the whole thing and think i’ll enjoy the book as a whole.
This is just a preview, but this beginning of this story makes me want to read the book right now!
If you like Beauty and the Beast story, you will like this one.
I hope that I can read this book as soon as possible.
I got a sneak peek. From what I read, and where I left off, it’s shaping up to be a good story.
I enjoyed the French spoken, I studied French in college, so it’s nice to use an old forgotten skill.
I have a feeling the Celine and Pippa will be causing the convent a lot of trouble!
I’ll definitely be on the lookout for this release.

Let's be real. The premise or the location on which this book is based us New Orleans. Which is really famous for its folk lore of vampires and werewolves.
This book also have a great feels of the tv series "The Originals" and the book series "Twilight". It had a big hype around it of it being the next 'twilight' but after reading the first 7 chapters the story was not that fast paced or very much interesting.
Many things are happening very haphazardly so nothing is that much interesting to keep or grasp your attention.
I picked this book up with many expectations but sadly none of them were filled.
The characters weren't that solid and even there seem to be no point where the character might potentially devolope.
It had very odd flow of story not to fast just very confused around the plot.
I would suggest you that if you want to see and read it on your own accord that's your choice.
I personally would not suggest this to you.
• Character development- 2☆

I received this as an ARC to read for free in exchange for my honest review. Thank you to NetGalley and PENGUIN GROUP Penguin Young Readers Group for giving me access.
This excerpt gave me enough to want to find out more. Like who it this murderer and is he human? Or why does Odette want a dress made at night?
So many questions just from the first few chapters. I can't wait to read the rest.
I like the vibe that the book gave out. I like the duo point of view that the author gave the reader. I could just picture the story. The author wrote the story in such a beautiful way. The story was told in such a beautiful way.
I loved how much time was spent on character development! And how the author touched on such powerful topics like feminism and racism. The general theme was intoxicating. With the City of New Orleans at it's center, it felt only natural to have it coated in mystery, intrigue, and secrets.
A rule where dead were in power and where creatures like vampires and werewolves prowled behind every corner is exactly the kind of place I'd (theoretically) would love to get lost in.
This is shaping up to become a wonderful supernatural classic.
Although out heroine Celine could be quite reckless most of the time, I admire that she was unapologetically herself.
With such wonderfully thought out characters and settings, The Beautiful did not disappoint.
5/5 stars
Celine believes in magic. I couldn't get invested in the world building and it was confusing. I couldn't get interested in the characters or the story.
I knew this was a galley but I was expecting more, but I've never had access to a galley before so what do I know. This felt like a tease to a much larger story... and I want more!
Amazing book! Put me on the edge of my seat and made me want to go Read the rest of the book! This was such an interesting start to a new paranormal series! Although I had never read a book by Renee before, and often am a little hesitant to read new authors, I was pleasantly surprised. Due to the writing and the characters, both which I adored, I couldn't put this book down!
Thank you to Netgalley for giving me a chance to read and review this sneak peak of, "The Beautiful" by Renée Ahdieh. The writing was so eloquent and beautiful. I love the setting of New Orleans. I am also intrigued by the story. I wish this was a full arc of the book! It really is that excellent. I can't wait to get a full copy soon.
I feel like I'm in high school again with all the new vampire fiction is coming back, anyone else? I'm one hundred percent okay with it though!
The Beautiful followed Celine, a girl traveling from Paris to New Orleans after committing a very dark deed - so you know this book brought all the feminism with it! Celine is a force to be reckoned with, bringing strength and power with her. This story brings about cultural appropriation, racism, and abuse of power - all relevant themes in our world today. It's very interesting to see them applied to the Celine's world.
I was a little bit sad that the vampires didn't come in right away, but I get it they needed their build up - and once they arrived they were completely worth the wait! I feel the story could have used more backstory, or maybe a little bit more world building? Something to make the plot twists hit even harder!
This tale is gorgeous, descriptive, beautiful, and it's set in New Orleans - where else could you want a vampire meets murder mystery tale to exist? I waited wayyy to long to read this book and I NEED more. I can't wait until I'm able to pick up The Damned!
This sampler of the book has me so excited to read the full complete version. I am already hooked on the story and the plot. The writing style is great and I really liked it. This sneak peak was a great little tease of the book and story!
Seventeen year-old Celine Rousseau travels to New Orleans to escape the nightmare she left behind in Paris. It's 1872 and the perfect opportunity to start anew, is presented by the Ursuline convent that takes in girls and helps them ensure a proper husband. However, it isn't long before the enchantment of the city takes over and Celine forgoes the convents intentions. Sebastien Saint Germain was quick to notice her upon arrival and while restraint is practiced, the attraction is mutual & undeniable, even if recently brutally murdered bodies seem to be connected to both of them. When Celine appears to be the next target, she decides to take matters into her own hands, unknowingly vulnerable to the fact that it may be at the cost of her romance with Sebastien.

The setting, the food, the fashion...these all stood out to me and it was all incredibly beautiful in my mind's eye. I have a sweet spot for NOLA though, so this probably explains why my mouth watered with every food description and I could actually picture the scenery and dresses of the era. ❤️

Unfortunately, I was expecting SO much from this book. I mean, come on: mysterious murders, vampires, AND New Orleans 😍. What a great recipe! Except, it was incredibly slow at times & I was left with plenty of questions. 😬 The next book just came out and I'm thinking just for the sake of some damn answers, I'll read it ASAP. Fingers crossed that it's a little more fast-paced though as I am actually curious about most, if not all, of the characters and their past, present, and future.🤞🏼
This is a promising start to what I think will be a great book. I've been seeing this book around and I've never picked it up because it just didn't seem interesting. I didn't regret my decision to read it. The mysterious and intriguing atmosphere was crafted beautifully and the prose was poetic, but not flowery. As I read on, I felt like I was getting to know a real person, not a character. Not too much was revealed about her past, which was part of the reason why I kept reading. I thoroughly enjoyed this excerpt of the book, and I highly recommend it to anyone who is a fan of the YA genre. It's worth the read.
This sample is so lush! I love the descriptions of New Orleans and the spiciness of the main character, Celine. I am sure that great adventures will abound! Glad that this is a series too!
4/5
This book is an enthralling jaunt back into the vampire genre. Loved the descriptions and characters even if their morals were a bit lacking. Overall I really liked it and will continue with the series
3.5 Stars
Loved the writing and the setting, but felt the plot was a little lackluster and had a slow start
The story looks interesting and I love historical fantasy. And VAMPIRES. This got me hooked. Looking forward to reading this series. Loved the intro to the world. Can't wait to read the whole book!!!
Thank you Netgalley for the sneak peek into Renee Ahdieh's new series.
