I've read the other books in this series and THE PLAN might well be my favorite! I cannot even say how thrilled I am that the lead female character lives with Anxiety Disorder. We need more lovable main characters living with mental health issues! My oldest child has GAD and this book actually helped me understand her difficulties.
Now, all that aside, this is a stunningly sweet romance with a very swoon-worthy leading man and the colorful cast of small town characters in this series. I adored this love story so much! I cannot wait for more in this series!
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
This book was so good! The characters were so well rounded, you felt like you actually knew them! The plot was so good you didn't want the book to end!
The Plan by Whitney Dineen is seriously swoon-worthy and laugh out loud fun.
Amelia is a small-town girl who has her life organized to help reduce her anxiety issues, but when the dream rockstar Huck Wiley walks in with the sweetest little girl on God’s green earth her life flips upside down.
There is a lot to love about The Plan, it’s sweet and has so much southern charm I felt like I was right there with them in Missouri. The endless strange sayings were so spot on for southern families, I would know since I’m from the south. It made me laugh out loud so many times my husband started giving me strange looks. Amelia is incredibly relatable to anyone with anxiety issues, this author handled all those dilemma’s incredibly. I will say this book almost deserves a trigger warning because it goes so deep into the way someone with anxiety works through life and even a simple thought. The amount of character growth and development made me so proud of each character.
THE ROMANCE holy heck honey this book made me swoon and want more after each chapter. While nothing truly steamy happened that made me love this book even more. It never felt like the right time for those situations to arise. I mean one of the main characters is a father with his daughter around all the time. Maggie, gosh I loved her part in this book so so much. She was brave, hilarious, smart, incredible, and gave this book a lot of heart and soul. Huck was DREAMY, like every step of the way I was swooning with the things he said to Amelia. He was forward but not in a creepy aggressive way and had buckets of charm that you’d expect out of a hot rockstar. It was hard for me to imagine him as anyone, which is something I’m pretty good at honestly. The closest I could get was Wade from Hart of Dixie but with tattoo’s
Another thing, this book was not laid out as your classic romance novel. I really could not predict where it was going which mad me feel like I was just along for the ride. It’s an amazing change of pace that I really needed! I have a feeling this author will quickly become one of my favorites in this genre.
All-in-all I really loved this book, the characters, and this plot. It was cute but had deep content that made you be able to connect with the characters. I will definitely be reading more from the author in the very near future!
This story is part romance, part reminder to continue to grow (even with anxiety) and that you are always braver than you think you are.
This is the first of the Creek Water books I have read. I really enjoyed that the narrator of this book is a woman who is suffering from anxiety (a thing I know too well of). She has secured herself a modest life and a bead store in a small town to manage her anxiety. She feels safe and secure. Little does she know that her life will be changed forever when a rock musician and his daughter come into town. They both push each other out of their comfort zones and help each other in ways they hadn’t expected. Overall, this was a cute small town romance.
I want to thank NetGalley, the author and publisher for the e-ARC of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are honest, my own and left voluntarily.
A great read, the third in this series.
Deals with issues such as anxiety but an easy book to read.
Looking forward to the rest of this series.
Another hit:
I couldn't stop reading this book! I loved how it drew me in and that I experienced a myriad of emotions right along with the characters. It was beautifully written with poetic descriptions and engaging dialogue.
It was fun being back in Creek Water and catching up with all of the craziness and family shenanigans, but this was more toned down than in prior books.
Both Amelia and Huck are likable, tender souls and I felt a real connection to them both from the start. This is thankfully not your usual rock star romance but more about two separate lives finding a way to meld into one. I thought it dealt with the emotional disorder aspects in a respectful and honest manner and I appreciated that the author delved into this oft overlooked area. I love stories that include children especially when it adds depth and humour as was the case with this book.
I highly recommend this book and look forward to the next book in this fabulous series.

Amelia is free-spirited, independent, and carefree - at least on the outside. Amelia feels like she's been living a half-life, weighed down by anxiety from something that happened to her as a child. She is set in her ways, her routines, and her small-town life - until her ultimate celebrity crush, music star Huck Wiley - shows up in Creek Water with his ten-year-old daughter. The two push Amelia to live a little more adventurously and learn what her life could be.
This third installment of the Creek Water series missed the mark for me. It was still nice to feel the familiarity with the characters in this world, but I had a lot of trouble getting behind this one.
I loved Amelia and Maggie finding each other - having another person understand their anxieties and being there for one another. Their relationship was great, and Huck's bond with his daughter made him all the more attractive as a love interest.
Something about Amelia felt forced - maybe its because the previous two books centered around girls who had been living in New York City - but the southern charm felt over the top and awkward here.
I found that I didn't really like Amelia - she overreacted and jumped to conclusions way too quickly and came across as a bit crazy. I spent a lot of time being confused as to why she was upset or felt like Huck owed her more than he was giving her.
Thank you to NetGalley for the chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review!
A romance fantasy with an interesting plot. Famous rock star legend Huck Wiley and his daughter Maggie temporarily move to small town Creek Water where they meet local girl Amelia, her family and friends. Of course they fall for each other, it’s a romance, but what brings extra attention to this novel and makes it special is Amelia and Maggie both suffer from crippling anxiety. It’s a subject you don’t read about enough, and this novel treats chronic anxiety with kindness, compassion and tips to effectively live with it in your daily life. This added layer elevates The Plan to so much more than boy meets girl etc.
