I was skeptical at first. How can I make good vegan meals using only 5 ingredients? The recipes included many staples that are NOT included in those 5 ingredients. I prefer my cookbooks to have pictures with every recipe, or at least most recipes. This one was disappointing in that aspect. Some of the recipes I tried were pretty bland as well so I had to add my own spin on things.

Can't argue with easy cookbooks when you're trying to adapt to a new way of eating. Love the images, and would recommend.

The recipes I tried were not bad but there aren't enough photos. Photos are pretty integral for me in cook books, Recipes are very simple and some seem obvious to me but I'm sure this would be an excellent resource for a young overwhelmed vegan.

Although I am not strictly vegan, I try to eat a plant-focused diet and love to browse vegan recipes. This book had a great assortment of recipes - certainly something for every craving! All of the ingredients are easy-to-find and the cooking techniques are simple and uncomplicated. I look forward to trying the Overnight Chia Pudding, Cannellini Bean Salad with Avocado and Tomato, White Bean Dip with Olives, Cauliflower Buffalo Wings, and Three-Minute Fudge.

Thank you, Callisto Media and NetGalley, for a digital ARC!

This is a wonderful cookbook I highly recommend ! Each recipe has 5 main components along with the 5 basics we all keep in our pantry which are olive oil, vegetable broth, onions, garlic, salt, and pepper. I loved the receipes and plan on incorporating them into my kitchen. As a vegan I appreciate the author's variety here of taste for everyone and the commitment to the vegan way of eating . I appreciate how the author includes receipes that those of us with sensitive stomachs can eat without strange spices that seems to be the norm today even though millions of us do not eat spicy food ~ These receipes can be enjoyed by those with stomach diseases and those that are sensitive with normal ingredients that are delicious . These are very sensible receipes that are quite easy to prepare and would benefit every vegan cook. Very well done to the author ! I highly recommend this cookbook for all vegan and vegetarian cooks as well as those who want to learn about being plant based.

This is a great gift for vegan friends ! Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley for the opportunity. My review opinion is my own.

What I really enjoy about this cookbook is its simplicity: it's straight-forward and the meals are no fuss. For the most part, the meals in this book are simple - all the meals are five ingredients (not counting staples) and they are pretty easy to make in a standard kitchen. The author really shows readers that it is easier-than-expected to have a budget-friendly, plant-based lifestyle and provides 100 recipes ranging from breakfast to dessert to prove it. Specifically, I think this is a really good book for those who are in the beginning stages of being a vegan and those who are just looking for more plant-based meals.

I love that the author says we should make it our own and add spices or extra ingredients, which is something to be appreciated. I enjoy having the flexibility when I cook, and I appreciate that the author acknowledges that the recipes can be altered to taste, especially for those who are just beginning their vegan journey. Again, I do think this book is more for those at the beginning or wanting more plant-based meals because of its simplicity and beginning chapters explaining how a plant-based lifestyle works and its benefits. However, because of how simple the recipes are in the book, those who have been vegan for a while might not find a ton of new meal ideas. While this book might not immediately attract those long-term vegans, I do think there is value in everyone having a cookbook, like this, that provides those go-to staple recipes.

This book has some interesting recipes, but not enough to convince me that I'd want to buy it. The title leads you to believe that each recipe contains only 5 ingredients, but in reality most of the recipes contain more than 5 ingredients. I think they meant to say "5 main ingredients," not counting some of the spices or condiments. And, while some of the recipes look fairly quick and easy, one should not assume all are. Some are quite complex. And, finally, there are only a few photographs (one per chapter) in the book. Appearance is one of the most important parts of foods--if I can't see it, then it's not going to seem as appetizing. There should be many more photos (fill in some of that white space!)

A great cookbook for any kind of cook! I'm not vegan but this book inspired more meatfree monday ideas. A nice addition to my collection of cookbooks.

One pet peeve of mine about these x number of ingredient cookbooks is that every one I've seen has a list of other ingredients that "don't count". This cookbook is no different and actually has a longer list than most I've seen. With that in mind, most recipes are still pretty simple and they don't have a crazy list of ingredients. One thing I noticed, measurements for ingredients vary between recipes. For example, one recipe calls for 2 cans of chickpeas while another gives the measurement for chickpeas in cups. Just seems odd there's no continuity throughout the recipes. Personally, I'd be happier if every cookbook included weights in the ingredient list as it's so much more accurate.

Due to a recent lifestyle change I have had to give up meat for health reasons. And I really miss it. The texture and flavor it adds to food is hard to reproduce. Plus figuring out all the different things you need to eat and where to get the protien and amino acids that your body needs can be intimidating. This cookbook is very helpful. It addressed the problems I was having. Plus the food is really good. This cookbook will help my succeeded with my doctor"s orders.

The Easy 5 Ingredient Vegan Cookbook is a well curated collection of plant based recipes by Nancy Montuori. Released 10th March 2020 from Callisto on their Rockridge Press imprint, it's 222 pages and will be available in paperback and ebook formats (ebook available now). It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links. I've really become enamored of ebooks with interactive formats lately. For Kindle Unlimited subscribers this book is currently included in the KU subscription library to borrow and read for free.

There are a lot of reasons to incorporate more plant based food in our diets; guarding our resources for future generations, living more simply, health and well-being, as well as philosophical reasons, not to mention taste. The less fussy and fewer ingredients required in a recipe, the more likely I am to actually -do- it. As other reviewers have stated the '5 ingredients' in the title means 5 main ingredients and doesn't (and probably shouldn't be expected to) include staples and other add-ons like broth, oil, chopped onions, seasonings, etc.

The included recipes are made with easily sourced ingredients and the instructions are crystal clear and easy to follow. The photography is not abundant; most of the recipes are not illustrated, but the photographs which are included are clear and well done.

The book has a logical easy to follow format. The introduction covers plant based cuisine, some general food safety, followed by a swap-out list for meats and some staple ingredient list for the vegan pantry to have on hand. The following chapters are arranged thematically: smoothies & breakfast, salads, soups & chili, sandwiches & burgers, snacks & sides, entrees, staples & sauces, and sweets.

Each recipe includes an intro with recipe special features such as nut-free, gluten-free, etc. There is an introduction with other info such as portion control and yields followed by highlighted info with prep-time estimates, cooking settings, and other info. The recipes' ingredients lists are provided with American measurements (with metric/SI measures conversion not included - there's a conversion table in the appendix). Nutritional info is provided in the footer under the recipe instructions.

The links and recipe ingredients are slanted toward the North American reader, but can be sourced relatively easily in other areas of the world with an internet search.

Three and a half stars because I really felt the lack of sufficient photography very keenly, rounded up to 4 for the completeness of the instructions and cooking instructions and the author's overall supportive and encouraging writing style.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
