I absolutely loved this book. Begins as what I assumed was a light beach read, but had allot more substance. I'm hoping for a sequel as I'd love to get to know the characters more.
I enjoyed the book. Characters with more hang ups than anyone could cope with, failing family relationships, and it looks at influence our parents actions can have on an individual. An interesting read. Thank u for letting me review this book.
The Perkins are a dysfunctional family....or are they just a regular one?
They all have secrets from one another, so when they go on a cruise together, surely this is a chance for honesty?
I loved the different takes on things - Charlotte tears out raunchy pages of her romantic novels to enjoy again and again, but her daughter thinks she tears them out as censorship, because she’s so prudish!
A great read - it gallops along at a great pace. I loved it!
The Jetsetters was an easy to read book. This book focuses on a family who go on a journey together through Europe after the mother wins a competition for them all to go on a cruise. With this journey they all have their own histories and trauma to work through. I enjoyed reading this book.
This was exactly what I hoped it would be . I love a story focusing around a dysfunctional family . It was funny yet touched on mental health issues which added depth to the book. The description of the settings and scenery was spot on and made me want to be there now ! I got drawn into all the characters , each with their own story told in different chapters. This would make a perfect holiday read .thank you netgalley for this copy .
I really enjoyed this book, the multi-faceted stories were weaved together in a really lovely way and I was rooting for them all. Some parts really made me laugh out loud, especially when describing some of the more mundane aspects of cruising life. The only thing I found slightly disappointing was the ending as I would have liked to have seen a bit more resolution to everyone's stories. However, I did enjoy this book and found it a really nice, easy read.
It was OK but think I was expecting something different. What I actually got was a kind of soap opera read where the characters are shallow and not that interesting.
I had been looking forward to reading this book so much. Sadly it didn’t deliver. It wasn’t what I expected. I had been looking forward to sun, fun and a few laughs. It really wasn’t like that at all. I was very disappointed
This was an ok book and pleasant enough read but did nothing to spark a sense of complete enjoyment. I found the characters quite dull and they didn’t become real people in my imagination. It probably is just me and although I finished it I was glad to do so. Sorry!
This was an enjoyable, mostly fun read. There was bound to be some ups and downs in a mother and her adult children going on a cruise together, and although there were some serious subjects tackled, it was with humour and a lightness of touch. In fact there were times I felt the author could have delved a bit deeper into the characters and their struggles but I guess it is best to err on the side of brevity.
A light-hearted insight into family dynamics, uplifting.
Sadly couldn't get past the first chapter, really not my kind of book. It's not very often that I 'give up' on a story, but just couldn't connect with this one
Thank you for opportunity to read this book as I was aware it's a Reese book club choice and I usually enjoy those reads. This book in my opinion wasn't one of my favourites I'm afraid. I felt it was more aimed an American reader some of the words in novel I didn't understand.
I was really excited about this book after seeing great reviews and it being a Reece’s Book Club pick. However, whilst I enjoyed the premise of the story I really struggled to like any of the characters, no matter how hard I tried.
One thing I did love about The Jetsetters was the description of the places that the family visited (especially during a time where travel is impossible) and this may be a draw for many people.
Overall, I was just a bit disappointed.
“Somehow her later years had become a mirror of her lonely childhood.” Amanda Eyre Ward
Charlotte Perkins, aged 71 wins the trip of a lifetime after submitting a racy love story. She is motivated by the thought of bringing her three children together again and reconnecting with them. She wins a cruise which takes them to Malta, Italy and Greece- and the descriptions of the places, the beaches and the food made me want to plan my next holiday!
The Jetsetters is about a crazy, dysfunctional family dealing with alcoholism, infidelity, depression and suicide- and I thought the author dealt with these issues sensitively and compassionately. It also raises the question- is any family really normal? Slightly lower rating as although it was an easy read, didn’t feel like the story went anywhere
Also- reading this book during a travel lockdown can either be a great form of escapism when we can’t fly, or incredibly frustrating- it was the latter for me! Where do you want to travel to when we can take to the skies again?
3.5/5⭐
Thank you so much NetGalley for an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
This is the first book that I read by this author but it won´t probably be the last one.
I love books told by different perspectives. I think it adds a little bit more of reality to the story as we are told it by a few people that see and live the situation differently.
In this book, we follow Charlotte, the mother, and Lee, Regan and Cord, her children.
I really enjoyed thia book up until the end. I liked how this cruise situation started up, how the members of the family were a bit reluctant to accept said trip and what it meant for all of them.
It's very probable that life behind doors closed is somehow different to what we think of the people but Oh Dear... In this book, life behind doors was way too darker, more serious and sadder than I thought at the beginning.
But I liked it. I liked to see how everyone was struggling with their own personal and professional problems, how that affected their lived and their relationship with their family and friends.
I liked the touch of drama, the touch of love, the touch of humour, the touch of nostalgia... I overall enjoyed The Jetsetters.
However, I didn't give this book a higher rating because the end left me a little bit underwhelmed. I would have liked a better way of ending things. I would have liked to know what happens with Regan and her husband Matt. I would have liked to know what happens with Cord and his love life... I don't know. It felt a bit incomplete.
Other than that, I liked and enjoyed this book!
Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. Good characters and a okay storyline, enjoyed it but did not love it.
This is a family dynamics book, that's funny at times. An easy read to take your mind off. Nothing too original, but light.
Thanks a lot to NG and the publisher for this copy.
Jetsetters they are not! Charlotte , a 70 something mother, wins a cruise holiday, and hopes that by inviting her three adult children to go with her that she can bring the family together again. The stories of Lee, Cord and Regan took up a large part of the book.
I felt that there was little to give us a feeling of the excitement of cruising. The family are egoistic and unpleasant and there seemed little enjoyment or coming together amongst them.
Thanks to NetGalley for a review copy.
I enjoyed reading this book as a Reece's book club choice. It was an interesting story of a dysfunctional family trying to find themselves and each other during an European cruise. Each character was a little self obsessed, but that may have been the intention as I did not feel much sympathy for any of the characters. I like to think that they resolved some of their issues at the end.
Great story, keeping a degree of mystery throughout so you are never quite sure how it's going to end
