This was really good, i enjoyed Emmie and Adam. How their relationship and their characters grew throughout the book.
Emmeline leads her hero Adam on a merry chase while they try to solve a mystery and falls in love all over again. This was a great adventure. I look forward to reading more!
I was intrigued with the premise of this story and the inclusion of a disability rep. But it fell short in a few areas.
I think the classic chemistry between the main characters could have been fleshed out a bit more, no feeling was felt (no tummy flips or butterflies, I couldn’t feel their love). I do get sick of the miscommunication and secret keeping device but I guess that’s what we’ll always get.
Em’s talent for recalling voices was cool and I think it was a missed opportunity to dive deeper in with that.
Over all I thought the story was ok.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an eArc to review.
Em and Adam are an adorable couple in Brazen in Blue by Rachael Miles. I love reading about a heroine who knows what she wants and goes for it. Brave and bull-headedness is sometimes what you need to be to get to where you want to go, or in this case...get who you want. I enjoyed this read very much and recommend all readers of romance to give this book a peak.
This is a super fun read. I really enjoyed this one!
Many thanks to the author, the publisher, and Netgalley for my ARC. All opinions are my own.
Brazen in blue was such a sexy fun and romantic sensual exciting lovely, and did I mention a FUN book to read! I absolutely love historical romance in this one fit the bill.
Did not enjoy this as it felt rushed, then dogged by long moments of recollection and internal prose, and the relationship, told between recaps rather than happening on the page, just did not pick up enough to enthrall me into the read. Possibly the reason for this is not having read the previous books in the series, but really did expect this one to stand alone better than it did

i promised myself that if i wasn’t enjoying something i wouldn’t force it and this just wasn’t it for me.
This is the first book from this author that I have had a chance to read. It began slowly and I really couldn’t stay focused. Unfortunately, I was not able to finish it because I couldn’t stay with it. Maybe it would have been better and made more sense if I had read the previous books in the series. I’m not sure.
I really love this series and this installment, especially because i have read the other books in the series, and I understood who the villain Mr Charters is and why he is being pursued.
Lady Emmaline Hartley has had a difficult life, she was scarred and badly injured in a carriage accident that also killed her mother and sisters, and she was also rejected by her father. Now she is a spinster who wants to be left in peace to run her estate. she spends her days tending to her estate and people, ably assisted by her wonderful dog Queen Bess.
Adam Montclair is an agent of the home office, he had adopted a disguise on a previous mission at Emmaline's home, and they had fallen in love. however, Adam felt he wasn't good enough for her, and had left her, Emmaline is convinced he is a criminal.
He is back on the day of her wedding to her friend Lord Colin, he wants to finally get closure on his feelings for Emmaline, and has also been charged with recruiting her to use her gift for recognising voices for the home office cause, to help identify the arch villain Charters.
When Emmaline runs away because she realises Colin is in love with Lucy, Adam follows. Ostensibly to make sure she is alright, but also because he needs to recruit her.
As they flee to Adam's estate and family, they slowly untangle their secrets from each other, their feelings and part of the mystery of Charters. With a whole host of supporting characters including the adorable animals, Queen Bess and Persis, they have an exciting, convoluted and spirited journey to their eventual HEA.
I loved Emmaline's character, and the way she dealt with the challenges in her life, she was brave and spirited in how she stood up to Adam, and his handlers and even her avaricious cousin Stella.
Adam was also a likeable character, although I started to lose patience with his inferiority complex..
I would recommend this is read in order with the rest of the series, otherwise there are some gaping knowledge gaps and you don't understand why the bad guy isn't caught yet.
I really enjoyed it because of the satisfying relationship at the heart of the story, and how it fit with the other books in the series.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book and all opinions are my own.
I rarely read historical romance but with this book, I am definitely going to be reading a lot more of them. This book starts with Lady Emmaline who is about to get her future locked away in an arranged marriage. But little does she know that the man who had rejected her heart would be knocking on her door for help. This is when we meet Adam Locksley who although likes and wants Emmaline, believes he shouldn't be with her because of his social standing and his lack of land ownership. Anyways, Emmaline takes his request as a way out of her pending marriage. With both of them needing each other, they come up with a compromise and we follow them on a journey to uncover a plot against the government.
With Emmaline's ability to recall people's voices, they set out to find the villain whose voice she had heard before. They run away from home and travel around England, trying to find the arch-villans, the Charters, and also hide from her betrothed.
There are several romantic scenes that were just tasteful. I quite enjoyed it but the ending left me so annoyed and I need the next book as soon as possible!
I love the characters in The Muses' Salon including Lady Emmeline Hartley and Adam Montclair. Their journey had many twists and turns and I really enjoy these novels. Rachael Miles is an excellent author and I look forward to reading more of her work in the future.
I was drawn into this book by the cover. I grew up with a Newfoundland, so I was instantly intrigued. However, as I read past the cover they mention the dog is not actually a Newfoundland but an overgrown lab? The was my first issue with this book. The second issue was that the hero and heroine were never introduced and/or they never officially met. Maybe I glossed over that part, but I'm pretty sure the author just jumped to them talking in the forest and then running off together.
The only part of the book I actually enjoyed was the middle, when they were on the run. The conflict as well with her cousin and the question of entitlement was lacking and not fully fleshed out. The idea that they had to keep on the run because of Em's jilted fiancée was laughable and totally insane.
I just did not get the whole book. At all. The only parts I liked were the dogs.
With a heroine who has a physical disability, Brazen in Blue by Rachael Miles is a refreshing historical romance that balances good character development with a well paced plot. A delightful escape for those who enjoy second chance romances!
The cover drew me in on this one. While I loved the characters of Emmeline and Adam I felt that they went back and forth in their relationship too much. Emmeline's disability and unique lifestyle plus Adam and his were another reason I wanted to read. I had issues with the story. The story was very lagging in places with the internal thoughts of how unworthy or how the relationship was or was not going. The villain was in there in bits and pieces. Have to say this may have been higher rated if I had read the first books. Felt rather lost with the past history and other characters/relationships in the book. If the book was just a little bit shorter and the flow of the story fixed this would be a great read. Even with the lagging I kept on reading hoping it the flow would sort itself out. Unfortunately, it didn't.
I struggled with finishing this book. I could not feel a connection to the characters. I might try to read it at a later time.
Brazen in Blue (The Muses’ Salon). By Rachael Miles. 2020. Zebra. (ARC eBook).
As Lady Emmeline Hartley readies herself to call off the morning’s ceremony to bind her to her friend Colin in a marriage of convenience, she sees a dead man walking across the churchyard. Adam Montclair, an agent of the Home Office, knows he shouldn’t be attending the wedding, but he can’t resist seeing Em one last time. But when she asks him to help her hide while the scandal of jilting Colin dies down, Adam finds himself in a real conundrum. As the man who loves Em he wants to whisk her away with him and forget about their differences in station. But as an agent he’s been tasked with recruiting her for a dangerous mission and he’s afraid there are too many lies between them to ever gain her forgiveness.
I really liked Em and Adam. The animals, Queen Bess and Persis, really helped deliver some heartwarming scenes. While the spy work elements wove in some intrigue. This is the first book I’ve read by Miles and I look forward to reading more by her. Brazen in Blue is a definite recommend for a Regency second-chance romance.
This book started out really slow for me, and maybe that was just the thing that killed it for me. I think this author has a lot of potential, and I will read her again, but this one wasn't for me. I was never sold on their second chance romance and that's something I need to be if I'm going to root for them. I think jumping into the middle of this series might have not been a good idea even though I seen that this could be a stand alone book. This is probably a "it's not you it's me" case here and I get that. I will try her again though.
Em does not want to get married, so she takes the opportunity to flee on her wedding day so her fiance can marry the woman he truly loves. Em seeks the help of Adam, who she once loved and who deceived her as a spy for the Crown. Adam is determined to find a villain and realizes he must use Em and her uncanny ability to recognize anyone from their voice. Thrown together the two rekindle their romance while they deal with danger and intrigue.
Very enjoyable romance with lots of chemistry and spirit! I really enjoyed all of the characters and the relationships.
