I have read several books by Rachael Miles and enjoyed them and rated them 4 or 5 stars. Even though I recognized a few of the secondary characters from the previous books, I was lost and frustrated with the story. This is not a stand alone book. I also found the secrets between the two main characters very frustrating. If only they would trust and talk to each other. There were some well written sections and interesting characters but not enough to make the story work.
Thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for an ARC.
Although there are many references to the events in past books I felt like I was definitely missing something. This is also one of those books that would have been about 20 pages long had the main characters just talked to one another about what they were thinking and feeling. I liked Em and Adam, but they could be so so frustrating at times! I enjoyed following Em's story as she spread her wings. At times I felt like there was too much going on and a lot of plotlines were left unresolved. So much of this story revolved around Adam having to convince Em to help the Home Office, and then when she finally identifies the bad guy it jumps to something else. The villain's connection to Em's father is also never explained or examined further
This was a bit of a slow starter for me, which made it hard to engage with the characters. The second chance romance had potential., but I didn't like that in order for the main couple to be happy she had to jilt someone at the alter. The dogs were cute, but honestly when the dogs are your favorite characters in a book there's a problem with the book.
Lady Emmeline Hartley jilts her fiancé and goes off to help rogue Adam Montclair with a case for the Home Office. They work to avoid danger and solve the case, while their feelings for each other become entangled.
This is the fifth book in the Muses Salon series and definitely feels like a book that needs to be read in series order. This was my first time reading this author and my overall enjoyment of the story was diminished by the fact that I was obviously missing information from the other novels. There was a lot going on and I couldn’t connect all the dots.
* I received an ARC and this is my honest review. #BrazenInBlue #NetGalley
This was a good story about a heroine, Em, who jilts her fiancé at the alter to go off and help a rogue, Adam, solve a case for the Home Office. I have not read any of the author’s previous books. I found myself lost as to who some of the secondary characters were. I think more explanation of their past was needed so that the story could be read as a stand-alone. I received an ARC from NetGalley and Kensington Books for my honest review.
Full disclosure....This is my first book to read in the series and I was totally missing parts of the story. The cover of the book was just too pretty that I just couldn't resist requesting it. That's not to take anything away from Rachael Miles. I just felt at times, that there was too much going on and I couldn't keep track of it all.
I received an advance reader copy from Netgalley for my honest review.
A not so typical pair of heroes plus two great doggy characters, make this an interesting and enjoyable historical romance.
My suggestion is to read this series in order. This is my first book to read in the series and I was totally missing part of the story that didn't fall into place. Even though the last quarter of the book shed some light on the connections, this book has unanswered questions that I assume will follow in the next book. There is no doubt Miles can write a romance, but I don't consider this a standalone. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
I think my overall enjoyment of this book was hurt by the fact that I have not read the prior books in the series. Although there are many references to the events in past books I felt like I was definitely missing something. This is also one of those books that would have been about 20 pages long had the main characters just talked to one another about what they were thinking and feeling. I liked Em and Adam both as individuals and as a couple, but they could be so so frustrating at times! I enjoyed following Em's story as she spread her wings and learned to find more enjoyment in life. I would have liked to have gotten just one scene between Em and Colin after their lives settled down - just to show that their friendship survived everything that had happened.
At times I felt like there was too much going on and a lot of plotlines were left unresolved. So much of this story revolved around Adam having to convince Em to help the Home Office, and then when she finally identifies the bad guy it jumps to something else and it wasn't clear if that information was ever relayed to anyone who would need to know. I got the impression that this mystery is one that has carried over several books, so it is possible that it will be resolved in a later book. The villain's connection to Em's father is also never explained or examined further.
Brazon in Blue was a surprise. The author drops her reader's directly into a relationship that has been rocked by passion and conflict, and while I usually don't enjoy that, I was swept along and found myself enjoying the depth of emotion and smooth narrative construction of the adventure and the romance.
Thank you netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was a decent historical romance with a complex heroine and a mysterious hero determined to win back the heroine. This is a second chance romance where the heroine blames the hero for a crime he didn't commit but can not reveal the truth. Emmeline hates that she still has feelings for Adam who betrays her trust and hides his true identity. Her indecision leads her to become engaged with Colin who she jilts at the altar. Between all the back and forth is a love story worth exploring with an intriguing plot. You just have to get through the layers of emotional complexities.
Overall worth the read.
Generally, cross-class romances are not my think, but the cover and the title on this one were so gorgeous that I just couldn't resist requesting it. Thankfully, Rachael Miles has such a deft hand for working through conflict and for giving her characters just enough room to eek out their happy ending, that I loved every single minute of this story! 4.5 Stars! Excellent!
