I have come across a few of trent shelton's works on fb and enjoy them so thought this might be a good positive read. Straight up is just that - straight up good, helpful positive lessons we all need to be reminded of to be decent kind people. I think there was 60+ lessons but they were short & divided to easily ponder each one before moving on. I like how Trent uses his own experiences as well in his writings.
I received this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion from NetGalley
Tbh, I didn't realize it was for teens when I started this. 🤦♀️🤷♀️
Trent has good information im this book (as well as activities for readers), so I'm not docking him for connect at all. I enjoy his podcasts and videos, but something about his writing style just drives me bonkers. Idk what it is, but a large majority of this dragged for me. I want to like it more, but it's just not my vibe.
I've listened to Trent's podcast by the same name and preordered the book as soon as I hear about it during an ad break. Later I noticed that it was in a few of Amazon's categories directed at teens and young adults. The ad for the book as well as the summary of it made it sound like it was for people of any age. As I started reading, I noticed that the examples that Trent used for readers to consider in their own lives were definitely written for a younger audience, like having trouble in school. So I think it could have been clearer that that was the target auidence for the book. That being said, this would make a great gift for young men or women who would look up to Trent. I could hear Trent's voice in my head as I read. If you haven't heard of him before, this could be a great way to be exposed to his style of writing, speaking, and encouraging and see if it works for you.
Trent is amazing. Everything he writes and says. This is your entire life of motivational speeches you need in one book. Covers so many areas of life. Strongly strongly recommend. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I really enjoyed Trent’s book. I think it’s a great starter self-help book, that has a lot of what Trent speaks on all in one place. I love the way Trent doesn’t sugar coat anything when he writes. If you’ve listened to Trent for a while, you’ve probably heard him touch on most of these topics, but I enjoyed having them all written down and in one place.
