Thank you to NetGalley and Nancy Thayer for the ARC of Girls of Summer.
I was hooked from page one of this book. Nancy Thayer takes us to Nantucket to enjoy as much as she does.
The story is about Lisa- Juliet and Beth. It tells a story of love and how they each handle the turns in life.
Nantucket is a richly described that it makes me want to move there and become part of the lifestyle.
Reading this makes me want to meet the families in the story. This is a book that will have me thinking about them all long after I have finished the book. Wondering what they are doing and what is next in their lives.

Lisa is taken with her carpenter, Mack Whitney, despite the fact that she is ten years older than he. So much here to enjoy -- appealing multigenerational characters, gentle love stories, a picture perfect setting on Nantucket. Nancy Thayer has written another book that I can recommend to readers who love her past books, plus those who enjoy authors like Elin Hilderbrand, Kristan Higgins, Susan Elizabeth Phillips, and Elizabeth Berg. The fact that it takes place at the beach makes it even more perfect as a beach book!

Nantucket native Lisa Hawley married her husband, Erich, in their young twenties, and they had two children several years later. When Erich leaves Lisa and the children after a few years, she moves back to Nantucket permanently, and embarks on her new life as a single mom and eventual clothing boutique owner.

Now in her fifties, Lisa reunites with Mack Whitney, a father of her son’s high school classmates, who also happens to be ten years her junior. Mack is hired to do work on her house, but soon the two become romantically involved. When her adult children, Juliet and Theo, return home for the summer, they are concerned the age difference in their mom’s relationship will lead to heartbreak. Juliet and Theo have relationships and life decisions of their own to be concerned about, so all the members of their family are trying to find their ways.

“Girls of Summer” is set on Nantucket, making it a perfect beach read. The novel is full of summer love, and is a light-hearted, romantic read. Like many chick-lit novels, the falling in love is fast and unrealistic, but it’s an easy read and enjoyable. Overall, I think the characters were likable, but could have had more depth. I would rate the book 3.75 Stars, and am rounding up to 4 Stars because it does have the summertime appeal and a perfect setting.

Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing-Ballantine for an advance copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

Sweet beach read. Characters are likeable but you never really get a lot of depth from them. It is somewhat difficult to relate to them and it is a slow start. Storyline is somewhat predictable but it's a comfortable read. Description of book is adequate so I will not repeat.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. My review is voluntary and opinions expressed are my own.

If you are looking for a predictable, easy to read love story, this is the book for you. I however never felt truly connected to any of the characters. There was no real depth to any of them, and I felt that the author just scratched the surface of each of their storylines.

Easy, breezy story of Lisa, who with her 2 kids, Juliet and Theo, live in an old house on Nantucket.. The house is in need of repair, so Lisa hires Mack as contractor. Mack has a daughter Beth who went to school with Theo. Juliet is now a web designer who lives in Cambridge MA and comes home after a breakup with her boss, who's moving to NY. Theo is a surfer in CA who comes home after a injury from surfing. Ryder works for Oceans Matter and comes to the island to set up a location for the company. Beth is hired to help Ryder. Beth asks Juliet to help set up their web page. So, they're all together, and things happen...

I was thrilled to get a chance to read this book I love all of Nancy Thayer books. This one came at a really good time, it’s just starting to warm up here in Washington state but I would love to be on the beach in Nantucket. This book is about two families that seem destined to be together and after years finally come together. I feel with the three couples in this book Nancy left it wide open for a sequel or prequel, and even though I’ve never known her to write sequels this would be a great time to start. The worlds in a funny place right now in this book just gave me peace and let me dive in and meet new friends in a place that sounds so beautiful so thank you for that. I highly recommend this book in fact I’ve called quite a few friends and told them that they need to get this book thank you for the chance to read it

Lisa Hawley is perfectly content with her life as a single mom and business owner. She lives on Nantucket where she grew up and owns a women's clothing boutique. Her daughter Juliet comes home to see her fairly since she lives in Cambridge, but her son Theo lives on the west coast so she rarely gets to see him. Then one day her dining room ceiling starts to fall in on her and she realizes she needs to find a contractor for some much needed repairs. When Mack Whitney, another single parent on the island, comes to fix the ceiling, sparks fly. The only problem - Lisa is 10 years older than Mack. Mack is fine with it, but Lisa is worried that people will talk.
Lisa's daughter Juliet moves back to Nantucket after a painful breakup and on the ferry back meets Ryder Hastings, who has come to the island to start up a branch of his non-profit organization.
Theo broke his arm in a surfing accident and is done with the west coast. He decides to surprise his mom and move back home while he decides what to do for the next chapter in his life. While he is there he hopes to see Beth Whitley, the girl he has always loved from afar, and maybe this time he will have the courage to ask her out.

This is a good combination of romance and general fiction. It is a nice quick read that will make the perfect beach read this summer.

Lisa's marriage broke up when she was young with two children. She moved back to Nantucket to raise her children, Lisa and Theo, and settled into a life running her boutique. I felt like the set up for the romance she had with Mack, a local widower, took way too long and they mentioned that she was 10 years older than him it seemed like on every page. Then once the romance started it moved along pretty fast. All in all though I liked the characters even though they seemed to manufacture problems that weren't really problems. It was a quick and enjoyable read and would be perfect for the beach.

Lisa liked the life she had made on Nantucket and was comfortable with her routine. When a piece of her ceiling falls on her head it starts on a remodel of her home and her life that she didn't expect. A story of family and love and creating a life that makes you happy.

This is a good summer read. I found that I liked the characters and the story line that they followed. However, I always find the scenarios in many books to be unbelieveable... This book definately had some parts that were somewhat unbeleiveable. However, it was well writeen and the characters to mostly believeable.

This was a perfectly light-hearted beach read. I enjoyed that the narrating switched between several different characters (even the male characters), allowing us to get to know each one a little better. It was a good amount of romance And family drama With a nice happy ending. Great easy read for the summer.

Wonderful! Nancy Thayer's novels have become a staple of summer and this one is one of her best. Divorced, empty nester, Lisa is a realistic and likable heroine. I enjoyed how her own romance became entangled with her daughter and daughter of her beau. Beautiful descriptions of Nantucket- the beaches, the food, the clothes. Absolutely perfect beach book!

I always enjoy a Nancy Thayer read because it is so much fun to immerse in the in the pretty worlds she creates. This is set in Nantucket and there was enough description for me to picture it in my head as I read which was nice since I was reading it when there was snow on the ground in my own world.
This book will be fun for older readers because the oldest character in this book is the most solid.
