Thayer's books set in Nantucket always make me want to go there. Her characters always end up in "happy ever after"..Excellent novel
This novel is a quick read for summer, relaxing by the pool in on a deck. Couples...romance...times together...I have enjoyed several books by this author...she writes about characters who have redeeming qualities and almost always ends a book happily. Give this one a try.
Once again Nancy Thayer made the island of Nantucket come alive. I fell in love with every character and felt for their struggles and success throughout this story.
As a mom of teenagers, almost adults I understand her fear and freedom if the empty nest. Missing the days where you were their world, but enjoying the new found freedom that lies within having children that can be independent.
I enjoyed the stories of each character’s struggle with love and disappointment.
Usually stories like this have one love story throughout the book that you journey with, this one had three.
Nancy Thayer has been one of my favorite authors, and this book did not disappoint.
Nancy Thayer books are about family, second chances, love, and life on Nantucket. In this book, the story revolves around native islander, Lisa, who marries young, and to someone more interested in succeeding than family life. With two children, she creates a life for herself on the island becoming a successful businesswoman. Her children grow up with their own issues.. and just as she is discovering romance with a man ten years younger, her children arrive back home. There are various subplots involving the kids, saving our oceans, a dramatic storm, but everyone finding their way.
A good summer read!
I've been excited about this book since I first heard about it, and it did not disappoint. The characters sucked you into the story and the story kept you turning pages as fast as you could. I devoured it in a day. I loved it.
Thank you Random House and Net Galley for this feel good summer read. You Always know you are a getting a winner with a Nancy Thayer book. Great summer read, I felt like I was on Nantucket with the characters. Of course, always a happy ending!
This is a book I did not want to put down and the first 5 stars I have given in a while. This is an author I enjoy but this may be my favorite book yet. Characters you will love from the beginning, 3 goods guys and 3 smart women, and a viewing of Nantucket that will have you adding a visit to your bucket list. This is a must read summer beach book, even if you don't get to go to the beach. #GirlsofSummer #NetGalley
Typical Nancy Thayer. Set in Nantucket, perfect beach read about a woman who, after years of being divorced, is attracted to someone ten years younger than she is. I say Go Lisa!
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book as an ARC in return for a honest review. I have heard of Nancy Thayer but do not remember reading one of her books before. This book was a very light read and welcomed during the current world we are living in today. I enjoyed the description of the scenery of the island of Nantucket. I am not exactly sure why the book is titled as it is as it doesn't only focus on the female characters. The beginning writing wasn't the best but it did get better as we got to know more about Lisa post her divorce and need to create a new life for herself and her children. It had a happy ending which was a little predictable. Overall I would recommend this book especially if you need a break from all the seriousness of the world today.
Always LOVE Nancy Thayer books, and this one is no exception. Girls of Summer is a fun, light, great book to read right now during hard times or on the beach this summer. Definitely recommend!
Thank you to netgalley for the arc in exchange for an honest review.
Wow, what a Truly wonderful Story. Thank you author Nancy Thayer.
This was my Second Book.
By this author.
And I Loved this Sweet Story
Lisa , was an only child.
Not something her parents wanted they wanted many children but was not able to have.
The story is about Lisa and her life.. Lisa ended up marrying someone she met Eric not knowing each other for a long time. He didn't want children and that became an issue for them. Eric thought he could change Lisa to be who he wanted her to be. Lisa originally grew up on Nantucket island with her parents. She traveled with Eric to many places saw so many places.
But in the end she ended up back home because Eric did not want children.
As time went on she and the children never heard from Eric.
Raising the children on her own as a single parent. Became one of the best things she did.. Lisa never did date .
Kept to herself till her kids were grown.. and then she found love as well as her children this is a really well-written story.
You're never too old for love.
This was a classic Nancy Thayer- perfect light, Summer read for right now.
Nancy Thayer is always an author I can count on for a solid romantic-beachy read and she never disappointing. This was a super quick read with love lost then found again and little bit of drama in between but happiness in the end. After reading one of her books though, I always feel there could have been more development with the story and characters but I'm not unfulfilled.
This was the perfect palate cleanser in between thrillers or just for stress relief due to the times we are living in.
Thanks to NetGalley for my advanced ebook copy.
If you’re looking for a feel good book that transports you to the beautiful island of Nantucket, this is the book for you!
In Girls of Summer, we meet Lisa Hawley, long divorced mother of Juliet and Theo and successful retail business owner. Eventually, the book also draws in Matt Whitney, widower, and his daughter, Beth, when Lisa hires Matt for repairs to her home. And then there’s Ryder Hastings, who’s new to Nantucket and has a meet cute moment with Juliet on the ferry when she’s going to the island for the weekend.
I’ll read anything Nancy Thayer writes. I love books about island life (and she always does a great job of enabling the reader to experience Nantucket) and she can always be counted on for a book that will let you escape reality for a little while.
They being said, there were two weaknesses for me. The book raised some tough subjects (suicide, drug abuse in particular), but it was really only on a superficial level. Also, the book introduces us to Lisa and family in the beginning, but all of a sudden, she’s in her 50’s, the kids are grown up and don’t seem to have much of a relationship (and Lisa doesn’t seem to have much of a life outside of her store).
The concerns are minor, however, and it’s definitely a book I’ll recommend.

I absolutely loved this book. It was a true “feel good” story. It brings together summer and romance perfectly.
Girls of Summer is a lovely book about love! Old love, new love, romance, love of our oceans and the sea creatures that exist there. New beginnings, friendship and sorrow. Love comes at all ages between persons of all ages.
Nancy Thayer's books are so comforting. Set on lush Nantucket Island, her descriptions of the sea, plant life, and beaches makes it come alive for readers. One summer changes everything for three families. Lisa, single for many years, a successful business woman falls hard for Mack, who is rpeakomf her house. Everything would be ideal, but Mack is younger than she is plus his daughter and her son like each other. Juliet has fled home to find solace after a romance went wrong. She finds a new job opportunity and love interest. Can it work out with her mom and brother's relationships too?
I love Thayer's books and look forward to each one of them.
A light hearted read that is everything you’ve come to expect from Nancy Thayer. I have always been a fan of Nancy Thayer when looking for a nice, light hearted beach type read. That is exactly what this was. It was predictable and there weren’t really any surprises but that is exactly what I wanted out of this book.

I always enjoy a Nancy Thayer read because it is so much fun to immerse in the in the pretty worlds she creates. This is set in Nantucket and there was enough description for me to picture it in my head as I read which was nice since I was reading it when there was snow on the ground in my own world.
This book will be fun for older readers because the oldest character in this book is the most solid. Often older characters are the ditzy ones, but in this book it is the younger characters that are floundering. It is so nice to read a book that shows a mature woman in such a positive light! More of that, please!
I was so excited to read Nancy Thayer’s book “Girls of Summer” because I loved the last book I read by her. She did not disappoint! A tale of love, divorce, moving on, growing up, and coming home, this book is a love story not to be missed. I perfect distraction for the craziness of life. I cannot wait to read her next book.
