Love anything by Bob Goff...he always has a fantastic message at just the right moment. I especially love the quote, “We can’t fix what we don’t take the time to understand.” I feel like this is very appropriate with all that is happening in our country today. Also, “Don’t get plunked by your past. It will lie to you, distract you, try to get your attention, & then laugh at you for looking. Shame has one goal & one goal alone: to keep you cemented in a dark past while it hides a beautiful future from you.” It’s so easy to be held back by things you’ve been told in the past instead of taking a leap & going for the big, scary thing. I could keep going with all the fantastic quotable moments of this book but think you should read them & find them for yourself. You won’t be disappointed.
Thank you NetGalley and Ballantine Thomas Nelson Publishing for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Bob Goff does it again! Practical advice mixed with fun stories from his extraordinary life make this book so enjoyable. You just can’t help but want to be a better person after reading a book by Goff. Definitely recommend for anyone who needs a jumpstart to fulfilling a dream, big or small.
Just like the title says if you've got a dream big or small really this book is for you! A great read I loved it!!
Thank you to Nelson Books and NetGalley for providing me with an advanced copy of this book. I have enjoyed reading Bob Goff books in the past; however, this one fell a little short for me. I can see that I'm in the minority here. I think my biggest problem with the book is that the idea was nothing new. He is a wonderful storyteller but the words of encouragement I've heard before. Again, I realize I'm in the minority here, I just expect better from Bob Goff (considering how memorable his other works have been!)
Oh...I know this is not a book about love but it is all that you feel since you start the love of the couple involved (the author and his wife). What a couple. #CoupleGoals
I love books who are this kind of enthusiastic, lovable, sweet, but no cheezy. I can relate a lot with things that He writes. I love books who are read by the author, nothing like his natural expression in every pharagraph.
Surround your life with people who loves you well... this is so true.
I'm sooo glad I got this one! (available in audio and book, read by the author, my kind of thing). I needed an easy read just to enjoy and relax and I'm so glad I took it. This author is very peculiar, I laughed a lot! I enjoyed all the stories he shares and made me think A LOT. Consider giving it a try. He is a best seller author. The title is new and it has almost 5 start 400 reviews already, happy to be one of them.
Life is so short, it is better to dream and live big.
I have heard so many great things about this book. This is my first book I've read by Bob Goff and possibly the first time I had heard of him.
At first, I felt like this book was a little disjointed and hard to follow, but then I started catching the key pieces of wisdom behind the chaos of the format.
My favorite topic from this book was limiting beliefs. I love how the author describes them as the drawer of keys that you don't even remember where they came from.
I also enjoyed the story about calling the President and how you have to know what you are going to say before you make the call and lose the opportunity with silence.
There were so many valuable tidbits. This book will definitely be re-read with a notebook handy to take down all the important ideas!
The final chapter and epilogue are the perfect summation for this book. I know what I need to whisper to my heart...."it's time for us to dream big"
I received a free copy of this ebook in exchange for my honest review from NetGalley and the publisher.
It is BOB GOFF. How could you not love every word written by Bob Goff? He is incredible. Buy this book and his two other titles. He is just so wonderful.
excellent read! I loved reading this, and even made some notes - I recommend picking this book up, if you need some motivation/inspiration in your life right now. Or if you're just not sure where it is you want to head.
This is my first Bob Goff book. I listened to the audio version, and then followed-up by reading the book.
Goff reads the book for the audio version – which I found to be a great treat. Goff has tremendous energy, as evidenced by his many adventures. His enthusiasm is contagious. His story-telling is best done first-hand. It’s a feel-good listen that leaves you in a better place. However, in drilling down to actual content that guides you towards realizing your ‘big dreams,’ I found this book lacking. In reality, Goff’s many stories serve to entertain and distract the reader. If you counted the words used to tell stories versus the words used to actually guide you, it might be 90% versus 10%. Honestly, I truly enjoyed the book. But I didn’t have any real take-aways about how to live my life differently in order to achieve my ‘big dreams.’
I do dream big! I often blog about dream projects at www.Patch405.com.
I received an advance digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. The thoughts and opinions expressed here are my own.
Another amazing book by Bob Goff! His writing takes the readers on little adventures with teachable moments and it all ties together. Every chapter is complete with an experience and a lesson to practice.
“Dream Big” by Bob Goff is his third book. Goff shares what makes a person successful and digs into the steps anyone can take to get there. With his wide array of experiences, Goff takes readers through tips to not only finding your dreams, but guiding readers through what it takes to stick with it and follow it all the way through.
Goff states that success is found by people who remain certain about WHY they are doing what they’re doing. And he reminds readers not to compare because comparison is a PUNK! These are two things that I’ve been working on for my business. Getting clear in my WHY and that I’m on my own journey, don’t compare it to others. Goff also says that if you want to do something to honor God, stop trying to be someone else! That someone else has his/her own thing to honor God!
I’ll admit. I highlighted quite a bit in this amazing book and I cannot wait to implement it all! “Dream Big” by Bob Goff was provided complimentary through NetGalley and Barbour Books Publishing. I give this book five out of five tiaras because it is full of great nuggets to help readers achieve big goals!
always a great and practical word from Bob. He helps the reader see where our dreams come from, what gets in our way, and how to take the next steps toward whatever your big is!
I loved Bob Goff's previous books. He writes with energy and passion and shares fun and inspiring stories. This book didn't grab me like his others, but I think that may simply be because it's hard for me to think about ambition while I'm furloughed from my job during a global pandemic. This would be a good book for me to revisit in the future.
More Christian/God base and mention and personal experiences showed. Having the reader look at one's ambitions, beliefs, limiting beliefs, saying no, and other topics. it is okay.
Bob Goff seeks to give you practical ways to find what your dreams are , focus on how to achieve them by clarifying what obstacles are in the way and working through to accomplishment. Online videos can be accessed. Book is useful for individual and group study.
I will always read anything by Bob Goff. His joy is contagious and he embodies Jesus so well. I listened to the entire audiobook on my drive back to Texas today!
This book is centered around 3 questions to help you tackle your ambitions- who are you, where are you, and what do you want? Each chapter has a personal story of his to help get across his points. The stories are amazing, of course, there’s just nothing super groundbreaking that you’ve never heard before.
I think the thing that stuck with me the most is that he says not to worry about if your ambitions are religious enough, which I struggle with sometimes. His reasoning is that God created you with your specific passions for a reason, and he’ll use you regardless.
Bob encourages the reader to discover and pursue their ambitions and gives tangible steps along with his own personal experiences along the way. There are seven sections: Getting ready to dream big, Set absurd expectations, Explore opportunities, Clear the path, Take action, Expect setbacks, and Sustain belief and land the plane. The end of the book has a list of questions to answer to help flesh out one’s own ambitions. Reminds me a bit of Jon Acuff’s book “Finish” but with a distinctly Bob Goff spin.
I enjoyed Bob’s perspective and his challenge to dream big. Most of us are not dreaming enough. Thought it was a timely book, especially, with the world right now. Would recommend!
I am a big Bob Goff fan but this is his best book yet. I tried to download the audio book from NetGalley but it didn't work so I bought it on Audible because I love his enthusiasm. Great book, really challenging. If you like Bob Goff give this book a try. All opinions are my own, I was given this as an advanced copy from NetGalley.
Wowsers. I think I highlighted half of this book. That's how good it was. So good that I both listened to the audiobook AND read the ebook. This guy has so much audacity, but not so much that he annoys me. (I'm look at you, Gary V.) No, Bob Goff has the kind of audacity that is contagious. The kind that makes you want to run after the biggest ambitions that you've had, make them happen, and reach for the stars...or further. Not in an unrealistic way. Actually, he does a fabulous job of laying out the realities of going after your ambitions. The failures. The setbacks. The climbing toward the big ones that seem outright impossible but layering some of the smaller ambitions out like stairs to climb up so that the big ambitions come within reach.
I have read a lot of book about dreaming big, visions boards, goal setting.....and I have enjoyed many of them. But this one just seems real. It seems so realistic and so relatable...even though he is an ex-lawyer who seems to have done just about everything there is to do. Still relatable.
That speaks to just how real this guy comes across. Just how conversationally he talks and writes. I have already started taking action on some of the many highlightable portions of this book. In fact, it's made me rethink so many of my ideas and ambitions that my head is bursting...but in fact, so is my heart.
Can you tell how much I loved this book?
No, okay....
Just kidding, I'm sure you can.
The thing is, I've read other Bob Goff books and just felt kind of meh about them. So much so that I almost didn't read this one. But I'm so glad that I did. And I have a sneaking suspicion that I will go back to it over and over again.
The first Bob Goff book I read was "Everybody, Always: Becoming Love in a World Full of Setbacks and Difficult People." He is such a great storyteller. I became an instant fan just based on his approaches to life and to the ways he interacts with people. I requested "Dream Big" to see if he had something new to say about how to reach goals, follow dreams we have for ourselves, etc. I have been fearing that I don't have ambitions or dreams for myself any more. Covid-19, our isolation from each other, coupled with my chronic illnesses that seem to flare more than usual, I lost focus on what I used to want for my life. I'm turning 50 in January, so I have started a backward journey in my memories. Goff reminds me that my ambitions are not necessarily based on what I have done (public affairs, teaching) or what I went to school to study. My life's experiences alone may have equipped me more than the work and study I've done. I shouldn't mistake others' ambitions for what I should be doing with my life either; it's not a comparison game. I need to do some soul-searching, too, he said, and understand why the dreams I had for myself took a backseat. What ended my motivation to work toward them?
And I found agreement with him in that I want my ambitions to positively impact the people, community, and the world. Even if it's anonymously! He's opened my mind to the small and big ways I can move forward now. I love that part of going for our ambitions is: help someone else achieve theirs. Goff is about "availability" and being ready for opportunities in life. I laughed when he said he put his cell number in this book, too. (I am tempted to call and ask about the "two boys" he talked about from one of the miracles he mentions. I remember the one boy's lunch was used by Jesus, but where's the other boy?)
I think this book would be excellent as a graduation gift. I also think this would make a lovely birthday gift to encourage and inspire the person's "new year." Thanks to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson for this copy of Dream Big by Bob Goff in exchange for an honest review,
