I've been looking forward to this book for months!! It's a great introduction and really whets the appetite How can I wait until August?!
I would have appreciated knowing that it was a Sampler when I requested it however. It would have saved me a lot of time, multiple downloads, and a reachout to support had I known. Would LOVE to have gotten the whole book.
This book sets up the sequel excellently. I really love this world so much, and I can't wait to see this book released!
In this excerpt of Igniting Darkness, LaFevers masterfully draws all the characters together for what is sure to be an interesting conclusion to the series. Similar to Courting Darkness, the book contains much more political maneuvering than the previous trilogy. Although we get to spend more time getting to know Genevieve and Maraud than we did with any of the previous couples, their relationship is not explored as thoroughly and leaves the reader hoping for more. With increasingly conflicting aims and by drawing in more and more characters at court, LaFevers gives us a glimpse of court life and the complexities that underlie her world building. I'm hoping that the rest of the book lives up to the promise of the excerpt.
When I requested this ARC I was attracted by the wonderful cover and I have to admit che I didn't know the author.
After I read I can say I want to read the entire book as it was exciting and well written.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.
I LOVED the first book in this series and I was so excited to see that the next one was coming out.
The author is a phenomenal world builder and even just the short bit of the sampler that was get had me desperate for more!
Genuinely cannot wait for the full book!
I love, love, love Robin LaFevers and this is no different! I can't wait for the full book. The beginning was so intriguing and I already love the world this is set in. I can't wait for more!
I didn’t know this was only a sampler when I requested it but glad they updated the title to say that now!
I am so excited for this book. I love robin’s stories and how she weaves together history and fiction.
This has been a fun and exciting historical fiction series to follow because of the thriller-esque undertone I feel from it. It;s full of drama and mystery and plays into the French royal scheming. I feel like some of the plot does speed through quickly--which isn't a bad thing since it kind of took me by surprise how quick I was reading it.
I have received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I am honestly really sad that I only got the "sampler" version of Igniting Darkness. I was so excited for this book and I still freaking am. The little bit that I got, ugh, I devoured it and I just want more. Really wished NetGalley didn't do these sampler books because it just got my hopes up and now I don't even get the whole book. I guess I'll just wait for it to come out then..
I received a sampler copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
The sampler I received was only 100 pages but I was gripped after the first 20. This book is fantastic so far and I really want to continue reading it all asap!
The characters are diverse and strong female leads and the story is intriguing.
This is a must read for Throne of Glass, Game of Thrones or Leigh Bardugo fans!
When I requested the title it did not state it was a sampler.. I am not a big fan of teases as I am very impatient and do not like to wait to find out how it ends. What I read was good and I look forward to Oct.
I did not realize that this was a sample or excerpt from the book when I requested it. I went back to look at the entry on NetGalley and didn't see anything to indicate that it was. Regardless, I did read the sampler and am so excited to return to the book and finish it out, I need to know how Sybella, Genevieve and the queen are going to get out of their current predicament. I'm dying to know what happens when Maraud reveals himself. Will he forgive Genevieve for poisoning him? And will Beast make it to safety with Sybella's sisters? Ah! I would devour the rest of the book immediately if I had it in my possession. I do hope you'll consider providing full-length review copies. Either way I can't wait to finish Igniting Darkness by Robin LaFevers. I will say that I won't be reviewing this excerpt on my blog as I only review full-length books at this time, and I apologize for any inconvenience.
Thank you!

I very much enjoyed this sampler of Igniting Darkness. The series continues on with the story of Sybella and Genevieve. With unknown fallout the information she gave up, Genevieve is trying to keep her position with the King as well as fix the mistake and save the lives of the women in the convent. With so many people having strong opinions they want to share with the king, Robin does a great job at keeping them separate so you can't mistake the character's personalities. You can always feel that every decision these two ladies make, that its what they believe is the right move.
I look forward to reading the full book when it is released.
I received this as an eSampler to read for free in exchange for my honest review. Thank you to NetGalley and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Children's Book Group for giving me access.
One thing I really hate about samplers is, THEY ARE NEVER ENOUGH! They know just how to leave you hanging and wanting more.
I cannot wait for this to be published later this year so I can find out what happens next in the end of this duology.
Oh man, now I need more of this book now. I won't pretend I didn't realise this was a sampler as I thought it was the full thing. But once again Robin Lafevers is building a fascinating world and I can't wait to see what happens next.
Reading this excerpt makes me even more excited to see where Sybella's and Gen's stories go in this conclusion to their stories. Lafevers is an expert at plotting and writing. I can't wait for OCTOBER!
While I’m disappointed this was only a sampler, something is far better than nothing. And this something reminded me just how much I adore this series and the lessons LaFevers promotes.
First, welcome home this book said to me. Stepping back into the world was like folding into my childhood bed. Comfortable, safe, and warm. The familiar characters picking up where we left off was just what I needed today.
Second, I need more! How can I only survive on this small taste of this story. I want to know what happens next and sadly, I have run out of pages. I hope NetGalley provides us with more because if I have to wait until June to find out what happens next, I will cry. The wait has felt like forever and I’m ready for more!
Okay, so obviously I really love this book and this series. If you haven’t read Grave Mercy trilogy or Courting Darkness pick them up today. You’re welcome!
I was so bummed when I found out this was only a sample as it did not indicate that anywhere before I downloaded it. I was thrilled with what I was able to read and can't wait to see how this duology concludes.
Thanks to Netgalley for a sampler of this story for an honest review.
Robin LaFevers, please feel free to take my soul and ruin another book by giving me ALL THE FEELINGS. I love you. Thank you for this book.
As always with books by LaFevers, one is seamlessly transported back to a different time. Not once did I feel like I was reading a book set in the past but with modern dialogue (it drives me insane). I don’t know how she does it but this series has become some of my favorite books in general. If you’re looking for a fast pastes read with a strong female protagonist (and a little magic/badassness theown in) then I know you’ll enjoy Igniting Darkness.
I'm not much of a historical fiction reader, but the "His Fair Assassin" trilogy and "Courting Darkness" duology intrigue me hugely. I mean, assassin nuns? What more do you need to know?
And this sampler for the second and last book in the "Courting Darkness" duology picks up almost immediately from the ending for courting Darkness and it moves at quite a speed. I struggle with reading historical fiction but this moved along nicely and I am intrigued to see where this book is going to go or how it's going to end.
The only thing that might annoy people is the sampler is so short (11ish chapters) and the multiply points of view (mainly from Sybella and Genevieve [first person narrative], but we have two other character's povs [in third persons narrative]).
But this has wetted my appetite and am now going to get self up-straight with His Fair Assassin trilogy and, hopefully, reread or audiobook Courting Darkness again before August 2020 release
