The chapters told in alternating points of view helped to connect the reader to each character and to the story. I liked the different twists and turns it took which kept me guessing until the end
Ok so this ending though 🤯 I did not see that coming! I thought I had pieced it together but I was not ready!! Kate is desperate to get pregnant and her sister Lauren has three children and a rocky marriage and both of them, and their mother Rose, are still trying to deal with their father/husbands sudden death just months ago. As the story unfold we see the power of facades and how people often see what they want to believe in each other and other people’s lives without seeing what is really there. Part mystery, part family drama and part societal drama this book is not one to miss!
The Half-Sister

Let me first say that I really enjoyed The Other Woman by Sandie Jones. However, I didn’t enjoy this book.
I am going to just list the things I liked and didn’t because I have been struggling with this review. I really wanted to enjoy this book.
I liked Kate, I really wanted to keep hearing her story, which was the focus during the first part of the book. The story had potential, it was interesting and engaging.
However, this was a book based in science and genetics and the author didn’t get it right. I was bothered by it A LOT. I didn’t connect with Lauren or the other characters. I found the writing to be bogged down with too many unnecessary details.
The twist was predictable and I saw it coming. This just wasn’t the book for me.
Overall, this was 2 stars for me.
Thank you to #netgalley and @minotaur_books for an advanced copy for my review.
I always enjoy a twisty thriller - this one did not disappoint! When a woman claiming to be their half sister shows up during Sunday dinner, all sorts of chaos ensues. There were quite a few different storylines happening throughout which added to the twisty chaos.
If you liked the other books written by Sandie Jones, you will also enjoy this one!
Thank you to Sandie Jones, St Martin's Press and NetGalley for an advance copy of this book! This review has also been published on Goodreads.
This was a fun book that I read quickly once I got into it. I think the author did a good job of maintaining suspense, I was worried and didn't see several of the twists coming. I do think there were a few loose ends that were hard to ignore, and some characters were far more shallow than others. Overall, The Half Sister wasn't a deep read but it was enjoyable.
I love this author and her books. This was a great book that kept me up late into the night. Both of the sisters views were incredible and I loved how the book ended.
What would you do if you had a sibling you never knew existed?
Sisters Lauren and Kate are shocked when a much younger woman named Jess shows up on their mother’s doorstep, claiming to be their half sister and the daughter of their late father. Kate doesn’t believe her father ever would’ve had an affair, as she had a close bond with him. Lauren wasn’t as close to their father and is now open to getting to know their new half sister.
But Kate decides to look into who their supposed half sister truly is. And she might not like what she discovers about the father she knew and loved.
The Half Sister is Sandie Jones’ latest domestic suspense/mystery. The premise of this story hooked me right away and it had so much potential. Unfortunately it fell a little flat. Some of the plot points seemed very far-fetched and the ending wrapped up too quickly, too conveniently. A good read, but not a new favorite by this author. 3.5/5 stars.
Thank you to NetGalley, Minotaur Books and Sandie Jones for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Wow! Fantastic mystery about two sisters whose lives get turned upside down when a young woman shows up claiming to be the illegitimate daughter of their recently deceased father. When Lauren submits her DNA to a genealogy website she hoped to maybe meet some long lost relatives, certainly not a half sister. As Lauren and Kate try to unravel the lies their parents told, both girls try to figure out the truth so their family can heal. Full of twists and turns until the very last page, this book is absolute must for anyone who loves a great mystery. Highly recommend, would give 10 stars if possible.
I received an ARC copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for my honest opinion of it. Sisters, Lauren and Kate, are dealing with the loss of their father when Jess arrives at their parents' home claiming to be their sister. This book is told from each sister and has many surprises and twists until the very end.
Sadie Jones does it again. The Half Sister is an unexpected favorite and a psychological thriller meets family drama not to miss. The Alexander family is idyllic at first glance. Mourning the loss of their father, sisters Kate and Lauren and mother Rose are working to keep the family together. Jess has a secret to share. Jess’s ties to the family create a riff between family members and create shockwaves that rock the core of their relationship. Follow the sisters on their quest for the truth. With several plot lines that are equally as engaging, the story is fast paced and the .characters well developed and likable.. The last sentence and final plot twist will leave your mouth agape. 4 stars.
First I want to thank Netgalley and the Publisher for granting my wish and sending me an ARC of this book. I always know when I read a book by Sandie Jones, that I’m in for a treat and The Half Sister definitely did not disappoint. There are so many layers to the story. Just when you think you know where it’s going, another layer is removed and you’re scratching your head again. This is more than another surprise sibling story. MUCH more!
It took me quite a while to get invested in the story, and I really wanted to give up at one point. However, about half-way in... BOOM! Dynamite!
This story of DNA, family drama, and many, many secrets will have you on the edge of your seat wondering WHO IS THE HALF SISTER!? There are so many possibilities in the story that would explain her sudden appearance. I know my mind came up with at least a dozen explanations. One was correct, but it was never “set in stone” until the end!
I wasn’t blown away at the “twist” ending, as I thought it pretty much was hinted at all throughout the novel, but it made sense.
This was a gripping read from start to finish. I do enjoy a little family rivalry and we definitely have that here. Although some of the storyline was a bit predictable it was still enjoyable. You have two sisters who have grown up together and then they find out that they have a half-sister. Someone who they believe their father had a relationship with had a child. However Kate one of the sisters is not so sure that it is her fathers. So we have this mystery of who this girl really is. And why has she come forward now?
I struggled with what to rate this one as I was between a 3 and 4, but because there is still some confusion on something that was revealed in the book I decided to settle with a 3. While I did enjoy this one it just didn't have that wow factor for me. It did have a mysterious vibe to it as you're trying to figure out what exactly the half-sister is after and if she is who she is claiming to be. I really liked how the author wrote from both Lauren and Kate's perspectives and we got to know their faults and secrets along with everything else that was happening with them throughout the book. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this advanced copy in exchange for my honest review and look forward to reading more by this author.
Jones delivered a delicious story full of twists and secrets. Lauren and Kate are sisters with secrets of their own, mourning the recent passing of their father. A surprise awaits them when they discover they have a half sister after Lauren used a DNA site. Jess has her own secrets she keeps, from her newly discovered relatives. The widow, Rose, may have the answers to all of the secrets. It's a riveting read and just when you think the clues add up, there's a new factor.
Once again Sandie Jones has come up an entertaining story. I truly enjoyed watching everything unfold and this ended up being a quick read for me. However, even I can admit the story is kinda missing the wow factor. The family dynamics was the strength of the novel rather than the mystery/thriller/suspense elements.
Sisters Kate and Lauren eat lunch together every Sunday along with their husbands, Lauren's kids, and their mom. Kate and Lauren's father died about a year ago. During one of these Sunday get togethers a woman named Jess shows up uninvited and claims she is Kate and Lauren's half sister. Uh oh, the you know what has hit the fan. Gotta stick around to see how this one is going to play out.
I loved the complicated relationships in this one. Parent-child dynamics can be fascinating as was the case here. I liked getting the backstory bit by bit so I got a better picture of why one sister maybe had a different relationship with a parent than the other sister. And I also enjoyed seeing how Kate and Lauren reacted to the bombshell dropped by Jess.
I've read the author's other two novels and in my opinion this book is more similar in style to The First Mistake rather than The Other Woman. This book is a solid fiction read but if you try to pigeonhole it into a specific genre like mystery or thriller, I think you will wind up being disappointed. If you are a frequent reader of those genres like I am there really isn't much here that moves the needle in terms of being shocking or surprising. However if you are just looking for something that you can sit back and relax with and forget everything going on in the real world for awhile, this is a good choice.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with an advance digital copy in exchange for an honest review!
Review of Uncorrected Digital Galley
Sisters Lauren and Kate rarely see things the same way, but they still meet at their mother’s house for lunch every Sunday. It’s a difficult-to-abandon ritual, especially since their father’s death some ten months earlier. Still, they come together, making assumptions about each other and harboring resentments. Unknown to the others, they each hold secrets, and it’s clear that there are hard feelings between the sisters and their mother.
An unexpected knock at the door throws the family into chaos. The young woman standing there is Jess . . . and the DNA test she holds will change everything.
Several plotline threads come together to create this twisty, occasionally creepy, compulsive narrative that draws readers into the telling of the tale and keeps the pages turning. Told from two points of view [Kate and Lauren], the unfolding narrative keeps the tension building as the reader discovers half-truths, assumptions, and manipulations. Relatable characters, not always lovable but always believable, populate the story and interact with each other in plausible ways.
The narrative, filled with surprising, closely-guarded revelations, maintains an undercurrent of uneasiness that touches all of the characters and ratchets up the suspense. Readers will find everything they believe they know becomes something entirely different. Don’t miss this one.

Two sisters are in for a shock when they receive an unexpected visitor claiming to be their half-sister. Their dad has passed away and their mom refuses to speak of it, so it’s up to Kate the journalist to try and prove that Hess isn’t who she claims. Even though Lauren believes her and accepts her into her family. Lots of twists and secrets are uncovered. Just when I thought I knew where the story was going there was another surprise.
I was excited to get an #arc of The Half Sister. I love when a book keeps me guessing so I enjoying finishing this to solve the mystery of who the half-sister was.
Thank you so much for this ARC!
I had such high hopes for this book after absolutely obsessing over The Other Woman. Sadly, this feel really flat for me.
It took me forever to read this book (unlike The Other Woman which took me a day and a half!) and I really had trouble maintaining interest in the alternate POV's of Kate and Lauren. I did not find either of them likeable at all, nor the husbands or the mother. The plot was just not intriguing and even at 96% percent I almost stopped reading.
I will continue to be a Sandie Jones fan and look forward to reading her next book!
Thank you so much to the publisher, NetGalley and Sandie Jones for an ARC for an honest review.
Love, love, loved this book. I’ve read all of Sandie Jones’ books and this one kept me intrigued and the ending was nothing like I thought it was leading up to be.
Add this one to your TBR list as it’s a great read and you won’t be able to put this down.
