WOW!! This book was a wild ride! In Sandie Jones fashion, there are so many tricks and weaves in this story! The characters are so developed and I couldn’t make up my mind who was reliable and who was a fraud, if any. The unreliable part was definitely the key to this book! Who was telling the truth? Who was not? What is the motive?
Today alone, I saw multiple ads on social media for Ancestry and 23 and Me kits—and this big brings up a current issue...what if you took a DNA test like this and someone did turn up?!!
I absolutely loved this book and actually sped through it in 48 hours and stayed up WAY too late finishing it. Couldn’t. Stop.
Great book Sandie Jones! I’m a fan for life!
I was disappointed in this book.. I really loved The other woman and liked The first mistake but this book paled in comparison. I couldn’t really get into the story or the characters- I stuck it out because I really enjoyed the authors other works. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a free copy in exchange for review.
I started The Half Sister with high expectations and I am a huge fan of Sandie Jones. Sandie Jones' engaging writing is still there, yet the plot seemed to be lackluster and without Ms. Jones' normal hook or suspense. I was disappointed in this novel.
Sandie Jones’ books just keeping getting better and better. Her third novel is my favorite so far! This thriller is all about Kate and Lauren and what happens when the half sister they never knew they had walks into their life. Some of the twists I could see coming, and some I couldn’t but it was a definite a page turner from the very beginning. I loved both Kate and Lauren’s stories and found this to be more realistic than many thrillers these days. Highly recommend!
Sandie Jones did it again!
The Half Sister is a novel that covers family conflicts, family secrets, and manipulative parents. I received and ARC and from the moment I opened it, I could not put it down. Sandy keeps you riveted from the first page of the novel until the very last line.
The story is about a family discovering that the father, who passed away, presumably fathered another child -Jess- by another woman. The novel focus on the family struggling to accept or believe that Jess is actually the father's daughter. The new half-sister’s presence causes more of a division between two sisters whose relationship were frayed because they both secretly resented each other.
It is an amazing book to read. I won't write anymore because I want to avoid spoilers, but you won't regret picking up this book if you are into a good thriller and even if you weren't. I believe that this is Sandie Jones' best work so far. I enjoyed her last two novels and believe that they were good, but this latest one is amazing! The plot was fabulous, and it really put into perspective the quote "The grass always looks greener on the other side".
Thank you to Netgalley, St. Martins Press and the Author Sandie Jones for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is the third book I have read from Sandie and it did not disappoint.
It was a little all over the place, but once I got to know the characters it all came together.
This book really gives new thoughts to those DNA tests.
It definitely kept me guessing and had a surprise ending.
After enjoying both of Sandie Jones' previous books, I was really excited when I was approved for an ARC of The Half Sister. And while I think many will enjoy this domestic suspense novel a lot, I had a hard time getting past a fairly significant scientific mistake. I'm not sure if the author did not do her research or just misunderstood genetics but it was an issue that clouded the authenticity of the book. The concept was great and I always enjoy stories that are told from more than one perspective. Kate and Lauren were both compelling characters on the surface but somehow, didn't seem as vivid and impactful as the characters in Jones' other books.
Not a bad read by any means but definitely not my favorite of Jones' books.
I have read The Other Woman by Sandie Jones and loved it, so I jumped at the chance to be able to read The Half Sister. I love a good mystery. This one kept me guessing until the very end. I highly recommend this book.
Once in awhile I come upon a mystery that intrigues me until the end. Although none of the characters in this book were truly likeable, and often were so horrible, I read until the end-not because of them-because I want to get to the ending...who was guilty of what???? This author has spun a web of deceit, adultery, dysfunctional families, DNA searches, and murder all in one book. I have often maintained that submitting one’s DNA to a website could bring about unwanted information-this story proves that could happen as it did in the book. Secrets...lies...horrible events...and the ending? Surprise! This is a good quick read for the mystery lover. If I would change anything, it would be that there
could be one sympathetic character.
This was a good read, with mystery throughout. It centers on sisters Lauren and Kate, who lost their father recently and then have a random girl named Jess show up at their parents' house, claiming to be his daughter. Lauren is initially accepting of Jess, but Kate is initially suspicious. This sets up a series of events that ends up uncovering more about the family dynamic as well as lies and misunderstandings that have plagued the family for years.
I thought all of the characters were fairly well-developed, and the relationship between Lauren and Kate seemed authentic. I do think the issues between Lauren and Simon were uncovered rather suddenly and there could have been more lead-up to their relationship situation. The characters seemed believable for the most part, though I did have a bit of an issue with Kate's staunch believe that her father could do no wrong. Maybe I am just a cynic, but at her age, she shouldn't have been so naive to still believe that her parents are perfect people.
All in all, I liked the book, and there were some twists I didn't see coming. I also liked how it all tied up at the end in a way that was satisfying but also believable. I'd recommend this book to those who enjoy mystery and domestic suspense books.

The Half Sister by Sandie Jones lived up to my expectations which were pretty high. I’ve read everything Sandie has written and enjoyed all of her books! This one was no exception.
After Kate and Lauren’s father dies, they are surprised to find a woman named Jess at their door, claiming to be related to them. She has a DNA test which proves she’s part of their family but neither girl has ever heard of her and their mother doesn’t know anything either.
The girls loved their father and don’t want to believe he cheated on their mother, so who is this girl and what does she want? Because someone just doesn’t randomly show up not wanting anything…plus Kate and Lauren aren’t exactly close and they have their own issues so immediately I wondered what are these two hiding from each other?
Plot:
Sisters Kate and Lauren meet for Sunday lunch every week without fail, especially after the loss of their father. But a knock at the door is about to change everything. A young woman by the name of Jess holds a note with the results of a DNA test, claiming to be their half- sister. As the fallout starts, it’s clear that they are all hiding secrets, and perhaps this family isn’t as perfect as it appears.
I like how the author created such tension where everyone has something to hide, motives, and a reason to lie. As you get further into the story, you wonder what could have really happened and who is Jess? When you read suspense, you want to be asking questions and forming your own conclusions but you will probably be wrong, I was!
Sandie Jones is an author whose name I see and I immediately want to read whatever it is she writes. If you haven’t read her previous books, go get one now!
Coming out on June 16, pre-0rder here.
Thought this book was great. A little bit of a slow start, but about halfway through the suspense started to build and I couldn’t put it down! Great ending, really didn’t see it coming.
Oo y’all this was a creepy one!! I absolutely loved it and the characters were fantastic. A must read!
Imagine getting a knock at the door during a family lunch and in that single moment after answering, your life is changed forever, in fact everyone in your family will never be the same. On the other side of the door is a young woman looking for her father. No big deal, right? She has the wrong house, right? No because she is looking for your Dad. The man who recently passed away. The man who was "faithfully" married to your mom, Rose, and father to two children, Lauren and Katie.
Do you believe her? Why now?
Sisters, Lauren and Katie, now have to decide even with DNA proof if Jess is really their sister or is the DNA wrong? Could Jess have ulterior motives other than finding her Dad and siblings?
What if anything did their Mom know? Sandie Jones' book, The Half Sister, was mostly compelling but slow paced and gets bogged down in a lot of unnecessary storylines.
It was a book with great potential but only mildly satisfying with an all too neat ending.
I received an advance copy of this book from NetGalley. #NetGalley #TheHalfSister
The Half Sister was great. More twists & turns than a roller coaster & definitely more than other thrillers. It may make you question how well you know those around you, even your (and especially) your family!🤨
This is the story of 2 sisters, Kate and Lauren. They meet for lunch every Sunday to catch up with each other. Their father passed away and they are closer than ever, then something crazy happens! A woman shows up claiming to be their half sister! This book has so many twists, turns, and lies it is a good read even if it is slow at times. I received an advanced readers copy and all opinions are my own.
This one is told through the alternating viewpoints of sisters Lauren and Kate, who undoubtedly are jealous of each other’s lives. One’s a momma’s girl, and one’s a daddy’s girl. So, when a random woman named Jess knocks on their mothers door claiming she is their half-sister, the already clashing family really sets out against one another.
This one was a little too slow-paced for me in the beginning, but I did get more involved in it throughout the second half, when things got a BIT more scandalous (although still not enough). It was interesting to see how it FINALLY all panned out, but I could have done with more thrills. I still enjoyed the writing, and the story, and the family’s drama even if it was somewhat foreseeable..
Thank you to NetGalley, Sandi Jones and Minotaur Books/St. Martins Press for an ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Suspenseful, quick read. Well developed characters. Great dynamic between sisters. I liked the DNA connection
“The Half Sister” is the first book I read from this author and it didn’t disappointed me. Although the story was a little bit confused in a few parts, overall the book was good and a a fast reading. The characters are well developed do and plot interesting, but the beginning was a little bit slow, in my opinion. And only after half of the book it gets thrilling and darker. I’d recommend this book.
I’ve enjoyed other books by this author before and this book was no exception. Easy to follow plot and I was hooked right away and read the whole book in one seating. A page turner for sure and the ending while expected still provided some shocks to the reader. Another good beach read.
