I enjoyed this comic, but wish it gave more back story of who Erica is and what the world is about. I like a slow build, but this didn't give you a lot of answers in the end and we're already 5 books in. I did enjoy the lead character, and the story plot was interesting.

Great storyline and illustrations. I definitely want a copy for my physical collection. Must read!!!

This was a nice, well-written and also well-drawn comic that made me read all other comics that I already ordered and owned. It has a nice and intriguing action, and a SUPER cool adventure. I loved this series so much!

Children are disappearing in Archer’s Peak. Actually, you know when that when they disappear and don’t come back, they are dead. The police don’t know what is killing them. When one child survives and tells the police that he saw a monster kill his friends, they don’t believe him. Children. Are still bing killed. Will the police be able to find the “monster” who is killing? A stranger comes to Archer’s Peak who can see the monsters that the children can. She has come to slay the monster.
The story builds slowly with an intensity that is seen by the artwork done. At the end of volume one, I wanted volume two. The story reminded me of how differently children and adults “see.” As an adult it can b much too easy to not notice what is. Really happening. One can feel the fear and sadness of loss. It is a horror novel.

A promising first volume.
Children are being brutally killed by monsters and a woman shows up to try to take care of the problem.
There's a nice mix of spooky vibes, gruesome scenes, and intriguing underlying plot.
This volume left a lot unexplained but I trust that more will be revealed as the story continues.

In a small town, a monster is killing the children. In a town that feels similar to Stranger Things' Hawkins or a town from Stephen King's books, a monster appears and starts killing children, and we follow one of the surviving kids as he tries to clear up his name in partnering up with a monster killer.
It's very gorey and bloody, and the panel reading while must be interesting in physical format wasn't easy to read digitally, and the world is interesting despite being literally thrown into the events and not knowing enough by the end of the first volume, it sets up for a horrific world. I think I'll keep an eye for vol. 2 when it comes out, to see what happens.
I thank Netgalley and BOOM! Studios for the digital ARC.

Well, this certainly was something! It was the first horror graphic novel that I ever picked up and though I am a scaredy cat and was afraid that I would not like it, I really enjoyed it overall! The art work is very appealing and though the story didn't give me that "can't-put-down" feeling, it did set up everything nicely for the continuation of the series and I'll definitely be looking up future volumes!

Something is Killing the Children Vol. 1 was an okay graphic novel. There were things about it that I enjoyed and things that I didn’t. It was a good set-up for future volumes, but I found it not that strong on it’s own. There were just some things missing from it to make it amazing.
I really liked the setting of the story. Whenever a horror story takes place in a small town it makes it that more eerie. The graphic novel starts off very strong, but there were pacing issues as the story continued. There were also many things that weren’t explained, which I believe will come to play in later volumes. This is a horror graphic novel and there is a lot of gore, so if that isn’t something you are comfortable with you should avoid Something is Killing the Children.
A problem that I had with this graphic novel was the fact that I didn’t connect to any of the characters. There are many narrators in this story, too many to actually develop any of them. I just didn’t particularly care about anyone in this story. Everything just felt like a set-up for future volumes, which left this one not feeling complete. The only character that stood out to me was Erica Slaughter, despite her on-the-nose name. She was interesting and I wish we learned more about her and her origins.

I do not usually request horror but someone I followed on tumblr said the art style was really good and thats sometime what draws me in more than the story line.
I enjoyed this once I got into the flow and the art style was very pleasing to the eye. I enjoyed the story too it did keep me guessing for quite a while.

Not a light read by any means. I wasn't quite expecting this level of violence and gore. This is an incredibly grim story.

This was kinda like A Quiet Place meets Stranger Things.
The storyline itself was good. I love graphic novels and I'm a fan of YA, thrillers & horror. So this satisfied that craving. Unfortunately, maybe because it was a digital copy, I found some parts a tad confusing. There were times where the conversation between characters were cut off, making it hard to follow.
Otherwise, it was an enjoyable read.

Thank you to Netgalley for giving me the chance to read and review, "Something is Killing the Children Vol. 1"
by James Tynion IV. Overall, it was a very interesting horror graphic novel. Children are going missing at an alarming rate in Archer's Peak. When Erica Slaughter comes into town, she is ready to find the missing children and slay monsters along the way. While the graphic novel has a good premise, it felt like there wasn't much of any back story. For volume 1 being the first 5 comics, I was hoping for more insight into the monsters or at least Erica Slaughter. I would be interested in seeing where this story leads.

This comic was definitely in the vein of Stranger Things or Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Kids start going missing a kick butt woman comes in to save the day. The dark art style was atmospheric and interesting. Unfortunately, I wasn't a huge fan of the story. I found that that the characters weren't well defined enough for me to really connect with them. With comics, I need either the characters or the plot to be interesting enough for me to want to continue and neither was true here. The monster was too basic and easy to be interesting. I found the mysterious corporation calling the main character wasn't given enough context to be intriguing either. I'm sure there is an audience for this, but I just found it lacking.

I don’t read graphic novel very often, but i really liked this one. I found the cover amazing and decided to give it a try, and man! I loved the artwork, and even though it had only 5 chapters, i found the history very intriguing and see a lot of potential in the other volumes. I’ll definitely read the other ones.

Firstly the artwork in here is awesome! Loved it! The story is fun and fast paced and has loads of potential at being awesome. I just didn't feel I had enough of it to say it's at that point yet but still a really cool start! I enjoy that it has a bit of alot of things rolled into one in it.

This graphic novel truly had me at the edge of my seat the entire time and left me want to read more to find out what happens next. And the illustrations were truly fantastic. Can’t wait for the second volume to come out.

This is a graphic novel set in small-town where children are missing. A group of friends was having a sleepover and something horrible happens to them.
This graphic novel is morbid and full of gruesome pictures. Erica Slaughter arrives in town, knowing what to do in the process of saving all of the killed children. She meets James, who was the lone survivor of the horrific event that killed his friends. Erica and James decided to help out one another to save all of the children that haven't been killed due to the monster's hunger.
The monster feeds off scared children and an unknown society is the only one who is able to save the children and town from further killings.
I enjoyed this graphic novel since I'm trying to venture off into the darker side of graphic novels this was the one for me. I love the creepy art, the graphic deaths, and the way the artists created the monster. This was something that I've been looking for forever since I've been reading graphic novels. I want to read more of these indie graphic novels and see which I would like more. I can't wait for the second volume and see what happens.
I would like to say thank you NetGalley for providing me an arc in exchange for an honest review.

Great storyline, I'm not used to reading graphic novels but this has been an interesting experience. The scenery and characters are really well drawn, and as someone who dabbles a little in art, I was able to appreciate that. Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to review and read this ARC.

I have enjoyed everything that I have read from James Tynion IV so far and this didn't disappoint.
This book gave me all the Buffy vibes that I didn't know I was missing. It was a great balance of dark, creepy atmosphere and intriguing storyline.
I loved the artwork, it suited the story perfectly.
Would definitely recommend!

I'm bad at getting a clue as to where the plot will follow (plots twists shock me almost always), but when it comes to worldbuilding I get something here and there every now and then and when I saw the teddy bears, I got a lot of ideas of what they mean in history, mainly because of Erica.
It is recommended for those who like some macabre things and have no problem seeing grotesque things, as they appear several times during the story, the creature to be fought resembles more those of horror films/series, nothing mythical - as specific mythologies, werewolf or bigfoot. And there is that cliché of terrible things happening in small towns, that can be charming
