Andy and Mika are headed to the Summer Olympics in Tokyo. If they win OlympiFan, a popular new game, they can become testers with the company's future games. Andy and Mika team up with friends in California to solve the puzzles, find the medals, and figure out who is trying to stop them from winning. Mika's got something going on... something that might really mess things up for the Kudo Kids.

This is a fun mystery story middle grade readers will love. The technology/video game aspect will help reel them in.

I liked the addition of information to beef up readers' knowledge of Japanese culture. The reveal of Mika's secret is handled in a sensible way and will help kids who might be dealing with similar issues in the future. Kudos Kids is a series to look for!

What a fun adventure for kids. While the story focuses on middle school kids, it is definitely appropriate for elementary age readers. The backdrop of the Olympics and Tokyo combined with a fun, puzzle-solving game is quite reminiscent of The Book Scavenger & I've no doubt that this series is going to find some fans.

This book would be a great intro to the culture of Japan for children. If you enjoy reading a book of puzzle games and mysteries this is not one to miss!

As the 2020 Tokyo Olympics come nearer, Andy and Mika decide to participate in OlympiFan, a fun game that bring players together from all over the world to search for virtual medals, and clues to the creator’s secret identity. As part of their search, their parents decide to take them all to Tokyo for the Olympics. But someone is trying to sabotage the game! Can Mika and Andy capture the gold and save the OlympiFan game? The characters are entertaining and draw the reader into the story. The adventures in the book take the readers on an exciting trip of puzzles and Tokyo culture/food. Readers who like mystery, puzzles, online gamine, and books like Book Scavenger will enjoy reading this book.

With a release planned near the 2020 Olympics in Japan, this book will excite sports fans. A bother and sister team travel about the city of Tokyo during the Olympics. They are playing a social media based game and of course something goes awry and they are left to try to get to the bottom of the mystery - to win the game and to keep out of trouble.

Sorry I didn't get a chance to finish it before it was archived, but I do still plan to buy a copy for my 9-year-old niece. My mom is a huge fan of the Shibutanis too so I might have to get her one!

There are so many things to like about this book. It has a compelling story: a brother and a sister (Andy, age 12; Mika, age 11) travel to Japan for the Olympics and solve a mystery while they are there. They get to go because their mom edits a sports website and their dad is food travel writers. How cool are those professions?
The siblings are heavily involved in playing a VR/AR game called OlympiFan (it’s a little like Pokemon Go) to find virtual medals and discover the identity of the game’s host who goes by the name of The Masked Medalist. Along the way, we find out Mika has a secret she’s keeping from her parents and her brother, and the stakes are raised when it looks like someone is stalking her and sending unsettling messages.
Along the way, we readers learn quite a few interesting things about Japanese culture and get to share in the fun of solving the puzzles imbedded in the OlympiFan game.
It would have been a great tie-in with the 2020 Olympics. Unfortunately, it looks like we will have to wait until 2021, but this book would be a great intro to the culture of Japan and to some of the events of the Olympics.

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley

I really enjoyed this book! Even though it was bittersweet because the Olympics are postponed for a year, this book is a great read and I know my students will enjoy it. It has great descriptions of Olympic events and makes you feel like you're actually in Tokyo. Readers will learn a lot. The main characters are relatable and interesting and the plot is an adventure story that will keep you guessing as Mika and Andy get closer to figuring out the mystery of the Masked Medalist. Fans of the Mr. Lemoncello series will really enjoy this!
