Clive Cussler lives on (with the aid of Robin Burcell) in this new Fargo adventure. Capsulizing the early meeting of Sam and Remi, this novel is both a beginning (where they meet) and an end (for Cussler's grandmasterful contributions). As such, it's bittersweet ... but it's also all adventure and pure Cussler. A great summer beach read, taking you to Greece, ancient Persia and all points in between.
I have enjoyed reading Clive Cussler's books in the the past (other than the Oregon Series) and was looking forward to this newest one. Love the historical elements. They add a fun educational aspect to reading the books. The Prologues pull the reader in at the beginning and do a very good job of setting the stage for the exploration and mystery that are the core of the story. I enjoy the use of strong characters, both male and female. The cast of characters is always diverse and interesting; the historical ones, the core series protagonists and the present day ones. This book was especially interesting as it took the reader back to the beginning of Sam and Remi's life together. This book was not up the the quality level of previous stories. There was too little development of the core story line. Too much of the narrative was dedicated to "chase" and "fight" scenes. I know that Cussler's work tends to be formulaic, but there is usually more meat to the core story. It felt thrown together quickly in order to get another book out. I hope that is not the case. Cussler readers deserve better. It may be time to let the characters go, rather than producing low quality work or turning them over to writers who are not able to do them justice.
