Although I usually can enjoy Tiffany Reisz' stories, I had a hard time completing this read. The story is interesting: a suicide investigation of a priest by a very vanilla officer and a dominatrix, whose business card is found near the body. However, the story kinda drags on at some point, when Nora and Cyrus are investigating several leads. Also, because I hadn't read all the previous Original Sinners, I didn't know all the characters yet. So, it was sometimes hard to connect to all the different characters making an appearance.
So, in all, not a bad story, but this time Tiffany didn't blow me of my socks. Hopefully next time. Thank you Netgalley for providing the arc. Three out of five stars from me.
This is the first book I have read by the author. The Priest is part of a series but can be read as a standalone. I must admit I was more than intrigued when I learn more about the main characters. Mistress Nora, Soren and Kingsley are all in the previous books but Cyrus the private investigator is the new character in this tale.
Told in different points of view, this fast-paced dark thriller w is quite riveting, I couldn't put it down. Nora is a strong character with a lot of issues but otherwise can hold her own. Cyrus is a reformed womaniser and is totally dedicated and looking forward to his wedding to Catherine. There are a lot of clues thrown about which makes this book very entertaining.
The story is based on New Orleans, mysterious, dark and thrilling very much like Mistress Nora the Domme. Although this can be read as a standalone I would rather recommend that you read the previous books in this Original Sinners series. I was given this book by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I absolutely adore Tiffany's writing and her Sinners series is amongst my favorites. She writes such fascinating flawed characters that can be redeemed. Her mystery keeps me hanging on for more. Want more. Need more. Love Nora, King and Soren.
4.5 stars
The Priest!! I could have cried with happiness when this book was announced, and then again when it hit my kindle. My favourite place to be is with the Original Sinners, and even though this book had a different feel to it than the other books in the series, it was still such a great book. In The Priest, it’s not a relationship at the heart of the story like usual, we follow Nora as she helps solve a mystery (“Nora solving a mystery?” You might ask - trust me, it works!) and forms a new friendship along the way. I actually really enjoyed this aspect of the book, Nora is always so entertaining to be around, and I NEEDED to know how everything came together. It really did have me turning the pages (so to speak) and wanting to know more. And of course no Original Sinners book is complete without our favourites Kingsley and Søren (hello, sexy Viking!) even if they do take a backseat in this novel. Le sigh. I miss them as soon as I turn the last page. Bring on whatever’s next.
Undeniably 5 stars
First, let me fangirl about the terrific cover! I'm obsessed with it!
It was the first reason I've picked this book. And I surely wasn't disappointed. I've just ordered the paperback for my bookshelf.
Second, I just want to say a big thank you to netgalley, for making it possible to discover wonderful authors.
The story starts with Cyrus, a private investigator who used to be a police detective but resigned after being shot on the job by a fellow officer. He's been called to look into what seems like an obvious case of suicide. Except that the victim, father Ike had called the most astonishing person before he shot himself. Nora, a dominatrix, and author of erotic fiction.
Cyrus is intrigued and even though he swore to only take jobs that help women and children, he decides to accept the case, starting by looking for Nora.
The plot is smartly written, funny, creepy, and dark all at once. There are so many layers to it, that will keep you doubting everyone until the very end. I felt my heartbreaking when I've finished it. the ending is freakishly dark. I didn't get remotely close to in my guessing.
The set is beautifully carved out of the street of New Orleans. voodoo shops, vampire tours, The Quarter that didn’t go to bed again until dawn. My inner horror fan was jubilating.
The characterization and descriptions were genii. You can almost feel them jumping out of the pages.
Nora Nora Nora, where to begin! I loved everything about her character. She has her own dungeon! She is the queen of kink and has the most glorious personality.
She has the wittiest sense of humor. Despite her tumultuous past, she kept the kindest soul. I liked how she instantly adopted Cyrus as her best friend.
The connection between Søren, Kingsley, and Nora is everything. They all had difficult pasts and suffered one way or another. But they devoted their lives to protect their bond and stand for each other come what may.
Cyrus had a loaded past too. He used to have it his way by manipulating his lovers. After being shot, and meeting his now-fiancee Paulina, he vowed to cherish only her. I liked him because he's trying his best to redeem himself, but also because of the way he cares about Paulina and Nora.
This is my first experience with author Tiffany Reisz, and I fully understand why her books are addictive. Her writing is genius and funny. The characters were strikingly intense and vivid. You can't get that much of diversity from one story. I'm truly in love with her creativeness and writing style. I can't wait to read the whole series.
Many thanks to netgalley, the publishers and the author for providing this stunning book. This is one of my favorites for this year.
The Priest is a thriller come erotica book, of a private investigator, Cyrus, looking into the death of the priest of the title, developing a strong friendship with dominatrix Nora to get to the bottom of it.
This is the first of the Original Sinners novel series that I have read, but I have enjoyed other Tiffany Reisz books. She has a really easy to read style, with a very sassy feisty female main character, Nora, who has an interesting dynamic with the male private detective. This didn't have as much sex as her other books, focusing more on the mystery element, which was refreshing from her. I would recommend this to romance readers that are well versed in the BDSM area, as this could potentially be offputting if preferring the romance more conventional.
Trigger warnings for erotica, BDSM specifically, as well as child abuse if that's not your thing.
Thanks to Net Galley for the free advance e-book copy of this book.
I thoroughly enjoyed this mystery thriller set in Ms Reisz's Original Sinners series. Set in New Orleans., Nora is drawn into an investigation when a PI contacts her about a deceased priest who was found with one of her old cards. As Nora helps the PI, digging deeper into the priest's life, she soon finds herself questioning certain aspects of her own life and the impact the church and her lover has had on it. A solid story line with witty dialogue, a complicated mystery, and a new friendship that is something Nora, I feel, has needed for a long time. We see the people who mean the most to Nora in here which is important because Nora (aka Reisz) finally addresses some things that I myself have had issues with from the beginning.
To me this almost felt like the end of the series but I could be wrong. It just had a sense of finality about it that none of the other book had. I hope it's not because I really want to see where Nora goes from here as she sets out on a new path.
Wowza, I will defiantly be buying the beginning of this series! I normally cannot read books in series without reading the prior ones, but this seemed to be a bit of a standalone ad well, but also had my interest so grabbed I had to finish. It’s erotica done right. If you like the hot stories erotica brings, this is a book to grab! I promise you will not be disappointed!
Will buzz around platforms and review on amazon with low reviewer number!
A priest makes a call just before he commits suicide. It's not usual to reach out to another in a time of crisis, but when that person is the notorious Mistress Nora, questions will be asked. Nora joins private detective Cyrus Tremont to learn the circumstances behind the death while reconciling her relationship with Soren and the Church.
I was curious about the book since the Nora-Soren-Kingsly relationship was not the primary focus of the story, Of course, once I started reading I couldn't put the book down until I finished it. The mystery was well-paced with a heartbreaking ending and Nora and Soren's relationship takes a surprise turn that will leave the reader waiting in anticipation for the next book. Tiffany Reisz is a cruel, but lovable, Mistress!
Tiffany Reisz is an author who writes erotica. Erotica is a sub-genre of adult fiction that has sex as the main plot of the story. I tried The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty by Anne Rice and it was too much for me. This experience made me hesitant to read erotica. However, The Priest’s synopsis made me want to try this genre again. The story is more complex than The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty. I like that the story had mystery too. It is the ninth book to the original sinners’ book series. It was promoted in the Net galley to be a perfect jumping-on point for new readers. I am a new reader to this series and I understood the story. I might read the other previous books too.
The story starts with a priest committing suicide. He was a respected priest who is loved by his congregation. A private detective named Cyrus took on the case. The last phone call made by the priest before dying was to a dominatrix named Mistress Nora. The private detective contacts Nora because of this call. As the story progresses, it is apparent that the priest, Father Ike was attempting to do immoral actions. The story ends with Nora more involved in the case more than before. Also, the feminist stand, in the end, was nice to read.
Stories like this are nice to read. They challenge my morals and thinking. I gave this story a 4 hearts rating because of the unpredictable outcome of the story. The story also had different relationships that intertwined the characters. The sex scenes were graphic and sadistic. As for character growth, Cyrus and Nora developed a friendship. Cyrus was able to make peace with his past. As for Nora, she is still in the process of finding peace. This story is not for everyone. It deals with sensitive topics that could trigger unwanted emotions.
Loved it! Just the story you’d expect to happen in New Orleans with an unexpected twist. It has everything from detective, love and witchcraft. Not what you’d expect though. Couldn’t put it down. Read the book in three nights!
Holy Hell! WOW...that was my first foray into the Sinners series by Reisz! Now I have to go back to the beginning and read it from the start! Good story/mystery. All kinds of "hot"! Can't wait to start at the beginning.
When I first encountered Søren and Nora, in Tiffany Reisz's novella The Gift, I had no idea that I'd still be chasing their story, quite a few years later. This is a testament to the power of Tiffany Reisz's vision for these characters (and Kingsley) and their story arcs. Thankfully, it doesn't appear she is finished with them any time soon.
One of the great things about this series is how Reisz uses conflict to draw Søren and Nora (and Kingsley) closer. There are other lovers, there are days and weeks and months spent apart, there is even a child--yet Søren and Nora (and Kingsley) and their untraditional, avant-romance are strong and unified.
The conflict here entails a crime that Nora helps investigate. The incident affects her not just because it involves a priest, but because other elements act as a trigger of sorts. Nora has to reframe her relationship with Søren (who is going through his own stuff), which comes with risks. Nora and Søren have stuck to a particular narrative where their relationship is concerned, and with this book, Tiffany Reisz forces them to reexamine it. This is a bold choice on Reisz's part because her readers are fully invested in Søren and Nora (and Kingsley) being together.
The one weakness in this book--and it's a weakness I've felt previously--is Søren. We've consistently been in the hearts and minds of Nora and Kingsley, and as this book makes very apparent, we need Søren's narration. We only get in Nora's head, and the new layers in her and Søren's relationship begs for his perspective. He reveals bits of it to Nora, and perhaps that's the point. We only know what Nora knows, and we have to respond accordingly. But Søren's opaqueness is becoming more difficult to sustain.
Søren is my favorite character. Maybe that's why I want more of him, and maybe that's why Tiffany Reisz keeps him just out of reach. Maybe we aren't meant to know him as we know Nora and Kingsley. Yet I love Nora, and the more I get to know her, the more I love her. With The Priest, my love grew even stronger. (Kingsley, on the other hand, remains the least interesting of the trio to me.)
I need the next installment of Søren and Nora. I need to know how what they affected in this book will impact their relationship. Do you hear me, Tiffany Reisz? I NEED MORE.
I was super excited when I was able to get this book on netgalley. I love Tiffany and her writing. I love the banter she writes I love the connections she writes I just love her writing.
I wasn't sure when I was going to be able to get a new Sinners book and so when this came out I was all over it.
I will say the twist in this one was a surprise but also not because of her writing style. I look forward to all her books and just love that you can never really know where she is going with something. When you think you do something else will happen or sometimes in a blue moon I will be able to guess where things are going.
This one was much more taboo I guess, I mean the whole series is not your normal read you have to really be into her writing. I love the way she writes BDSM and although we do get the SM side of things and I still to this day just cannot understand how and why sometimes but then at the same time I understand it. It is just crazy.
I love King though and wish I would have gotten more of him that was the only downside for me.
Overall it was a good read and fun, to be honest. I really love the way she writes Eleanor she is just so sassy and funny.
If you are not a fan of Masochist/sadist lifestyle you will not like parts of this book. So that really is your only warning I guess, but if you have gotten this far in the series chances are you already know this.
I will that The Priest was definitely an interesting read. This story is not for the faint of heart because it does involve violence and some other themes such as BDSM so if you don't like these kind of themes in your book I would not recommend this book. But, if you overlook all of that The Priest is an action-packed story were it does keep you on your toes. This is the ninth book in the series so I would recommend reading the other books in the series before reading this one.
Why have I waited so long to read this series???
Omg, I absolutely loved it!
The writing, the characters, the banter, the chemistry, the steamy scenes and the suspense? Every single page was perfect and I want more, I need more of them!
I can see a long weekend of binge read the other books!
First I’ll just tell you what the publisher says about this book...
Søren has been suspended from the Jesuits for a minimum of one year after confessing to fathering a child. To say he's struggling with his newfound freedom is an understatement.
Kingsley is about to be a father again and is convinced something very bad is about to happen. Nerves? Or is he right that the time has come for the Sinners to pay for their sins?
And if things couldn't get worse, a handsome private detective shows up and tells Mistress Nora that a priest has just committed suicide, and she was the last person he tried to call. He would like to know why…
Now I was under the impression this was a stand-alone for a new series from Reisz, but I found out from another source it picks up where the last Sinner’s book ended. Apparently 4 months after the events of Sinners #8; The Queen.
So my problem is I have never read this series and have no idea who these people are or why they are involved in what seemed to be a suicide of a Priest who was into some...oh let’s just say questionable activities.
I didn’t dislike it, it was written well, which is a plus. But without the background familiarity I felt lost most of the time to the point I became annoyed with the story and the book.
I received this book free from 8th Circle Press, Independent Book Publishers Association, and Netgalley for my honest, unbiased review.
As always Tiffany Reisz doesn't disappoint. I found this book refreshing she put her strong female lead Nora again in the spotlight. After being contacted by a private investigator Nora finds herself in the middle of a case she has no idea how she fits into it. She is curious as always and finds herself looking into the suicide of a priest. But right now she is also having her own life difficulties. This is a fast read I started it and stayed up all night to finish. The twist and turns have an effect I wasn't prepared for. This is the first time in the series Nora finds herself at odds with her faith and Soren. She has to decide between her faith and her conscious.
I don’t think I’ll ever stop wanting more Original Sinners. I absolutely loved being back in the company of Nora, Søren and Kingsley again. Tiffany Reisz has mentioned that The Priest can be read as a standalone and I do believe that to be true. However, if this is your first time reading a book from this series then please go back to the very beginning which is The Siren and enjoy one of the best series I have ever read.
The author approached this story differently to the others in this series and on the whole I loved it. This is more of a mystery/suspense type of story which has Nora assisting Cyrus to establish the reasons behind another character’s actions. I absolutely loved the interactions and friendship that Nora and Cyrus built. I thought that the author wrote this ‘who done it’ incredibly well that after a certain point I didn’t want to put the book down until all the answers had been revealed. I absolutely love Nora - I can’t get enough of her. Her one liners and interactions with individuals are amazing. I wish I had her personality and of course her Viking too!!
As well as the suspense in this story, I felt the questions that were raised were very thought provoking. The author wrote this part perfectly in my opinion and by delving into the past, it actually made me see the actions of Nora, Søren and King in a different light and appreciate some of the choices that they made.
You know that Søren and Nora together means kink and I will always love seeing them together. However, I think you’ll find erotic scenes in the book when you least expect them and I’m certain you are now desperate to know what I am referring to. Just make sure you grab a fan or have a cold shower ready for when you reach that chapter 😉 (It’s not Kingsley either!).
I award The Priest 4 stars and a recommendation for you to read this. There were a few times in the book when I wished for the story to go at a slightly faster pace but the latter part I couldn’t put down.
This was my first Tiffany Reisz and I was really excited to try one of her books! But I didn’t realize this was part of an on-going series and it’s recommended to read the series in order. I tried a bit of the book but felt fairly confused. I’m hoping to try this series from the beginning and eventually read The Priest. For now I DNFed.
