I have not read the first in this series and am not sure I will. I’ve discovered my tastes in books are rapidly changing. I will update my review if I read this.
Amazing book! Picked up right after book 1 left off. And I loved every second. Kept me just as interest and I didn't want to put it down
I received this free eARC novel from NetGalley. This is my honest review.
This has been on my TBR pile for so long, and I'm glad I finally got around to it. I really enjoyed the storyline and seeing the characters change throughout the story was a great character development. The plot was great and kept my attention. I'm glad I got the chance to read this and will be on the lookout for more in the future!
Just as good as book one, The Camelot Betrayal is full of twists and morally gray characters that you don’t know what to make of them! Also in love with the brilliant cliffhanger ending. I’m rooting so hard for Guinevere and Lancelot, and can’t wait for the big mystery to be revealed! 4/5 stars
An interesting continuation, though I did find it a bit difficult to get into.
When it comes to retelling of popular stories, myths and legends it’s extremely difficult to come up with interesting plot hooks. In my opinion, the Legend of King Arthur has been done so much that it makes the challenge that much more difficult… by Kristen White still manages to throw interesting curves into a familiar tale.
There were points that I struggled to get through, but over all I found the story interesting enough to finish it and was not disappointed. While I am unsure of I will read the next volume at this point it time, I applauded the authors creativity!
Oh my gosh, this wild ride!!!! Just when you think you know where things are going, who characters are, what the plot twist will be BAM-- something you just don't expect!! A fantastic companion novel.
I have elected not to read and review this book due to time constraints. Thank you for the opportunity.
After reading the first two publications of this series, I was immediately hooked. I had always been aware of the Arthur story and it’s Disney version as a child, but never would I have thought it would be in my current novel agenda of books in my late teenage years. The Camelot Betrayal brings an enticing and refreshing spin on the medieval tale with a powerful female protagonist that I am pleased to see develop profoundly during the finale of the trilogy. The romance is also perfectly intertwined within the plot of the novel thats enabled it to be prominent, yet not over-dominating in the action-filled sequences of the novel. What can I say, I’m a sucker for love triangles, especially in a fantasy illusion such as in Camelot. This is no classical fairy-tale, but better with far more exciting complexities and elements of action, magic, lust, and so much more. This read and series was definitely a treat; but meanwhile I am excited for what to come is for the author White and her work!
I enjoyed book one more unfortunately. This was just an ok read for me. Not terrible but not great either.
A fantastic follow up to the Guinevere Deception. Trilogies can be hard on the middle book but I think this one was enganging and just teasing enough to keep you back for more.
This novel was better than the first book! I found Guinevere to be a strong character! My favorite character is Mordred! I hope they end up together!
I gave this a four out five stars I really loved this book. I loved the characters, relationships, and conflicts. I want to buy finished copies of the series. I absolutely recommend the series!
Kiersten White can do no wrong! Her followup to the Guinevere Deception proves to be equally compelling, with complex characters you can't help but love and plot lines that have you biting your nails. Her knowledge of Arhturian lore is so profound and only enhances her novel, as she spins classic tropes on their head and explores character archetypes beyond the surface level.
this was a wonderful sequel! i loved following the characters, but I did think it suffered from second book syndrome, as the worldbuilding wasn't nearly as lush as the first book,
Gorgeous writing. This series has become a top favorite. In this installment, we get more secrets, more development and more magic.
This is perfection. The King Arthur myth beautifully reimagined. Just magical.
DNF 8% - Such a slow start to this book. I don’t remember any of these characters or what I liked so much about the first book. I’m finally just deciding to cut this one loose.
Note: I was provided a free ARC on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I really wanted to love this book as much as the first one, but something about it just wasn't all there for me. Maybe it's the fact that some how Guinevere is in love with three people without much actual development in any of those regards, or the fact that this book felt more like filler than anything else. But I did LOVE the introduction of some of the new characters and the new settings we were introduced too. I loved seeing this world expand and I love seeing the direction the story is headed.
I did like Guinevere's character growth and how she is learning to be her own person outside of the role she feels like she was designed for by Arthur and Merlin. I also really like the "merlin is the villain" take that this book series is taking. Its always fun to see new villains emerge from old charters in literature.
On its own, this book is okay, as part of a series its a little better though and I'm excited to see where it goes next.
While there isn’t anything I hate about this series, it’s still not exactly my favorite. I don’t think I’ll continue this series, but I’ll absolutely be keeping an eye out for what Kiersten White puts out next.
Stories about Arthur have been done in various ways, and this one is unique as it focuses on Guinevere and not so much on Arthur and his famous sword. This book is a slow burn in the romance department, and the addition of the side characters taking center stage and some jaw-dropping twists make this an adventurous read. Guinevere still struggles with her inner turmoil of who she truly is in Camelot. Arthur is the character I work most with as he feels so dull and just a flop; he remains more myth than man, and I had a hard time connecting to him. I am intrigued by the relationship between Guinevere and Mordred. She struggles when connecting with Arthur but breathes so quickly when she has a scene with Mordred. Also, we have to keep in mind that this Guinevere is not the real one, and problems abound when her sister Guinevach arrives for a visit.
Final Thoughts:
Kiersten White knows how to write endings that make me think that getting through a filler kind of book is entirely worth the jaw-dropping finale. I am eager to see how the final book brings this all to an end.
I really enjoyed the second installment to this series. I don’t feel like it was just a filler book or unnecessary. White was able to wind the story and tell it just perfectly. I love that she takes such a well known tale, but puts her own, interesting spin on it!
