When I read the description of this book, I was so intrigued. A former brain surgeon whose failed experimental surgery lead to a woman dying is somehow listed as the victim's sister's emergency contact when she herself is found dead. Sign me up! However, other than the creative premise, I was overall disappointed by the book. The main character, Charlotte, wasn't very likable and was all over the place with her erratic emotions. Her relationship with Rachel is very odd and borderline unhealthy, which is once mentioned by Charlotte's other friend, but then is never touched on again. The dialogue was also very stifled and unnatural. While all of the"loose ends were tied up at the end of the book (which I honestly did appreciate), I didn't find the resolution satisfying. It seemed random and didn't make a ton of sense. While I normally tear through thrillers, eager to find out how the story will resolve, I found myself more eager to be done with the book once and for all.

this was a thriller with a lot of twists and turns, I was caught off guard quite a few times while reading. I enjoyed some aspects of this book and others I didn’t. Overall, it was a nice thrill.

I didn't know what to expect with this book, however, I really ended up liking it. Charlotte has a mysterious boyfriend that her best friend Rachel is suspicious of. Charlotte is also contacted to identify the body of a woman who had her listed as her emergency contact, however, Charlotte has no idea who this woman is. The pieces are slowly put together by detectives who believe she is the one who murdered this woman. I changed my mind on what I believed the outcome was several times and in the end I was wrong (of course).

This was a great book and once I really got into it I couldn't put it down!

*Many thanks to NetGalley, Dutton, and E.G. Scott for an ARC of this book!*

I thoroughly enjoyed The Woman Inside by E.G. Scott and was very excited to be granted a wish by the publisher for this title! Charlotte is an acupuncturist with a mysterious past, trying to recover from tragedy in her past as a surgeon by moving forward with the help of a support group and her best friend Rachel. A phone call asking her to ID a body throws her for a loop...she has never met the victim, yet she is listed as the Jane Doe's emergency contact. Rachel fears her friend's cagey new boyfriend Peter could be dragging Charlotte down a dangerous path, but who should Charlotte actually fear?

This thriller was definitely a slow burn for me. At about the halfway point, it began to pick up speed and started getting more exciting. I think the authors did a great job of setting up Charlotte's world and some of the characters, but I would have liked to see a deeper exploration of the relationship between Charlotte and her mother. There were some interesting power dynamics in regards to Charlotte's childhood and the past she is struggling to remember and I would have liked a deeper look into those aspects of her life. There were also a couple of plot threads with Peter that weren't fully flushed out by the book's end, but the final twist was well-written and was very unexpected! I also appreciated that even though this is a mystery/thriller, the authors created a fully-fleshed out friendship between Rachel and Charlotte and managed to slip some thoughts on the merits of a strong friendship between two females in the novel, as well as the importance of having a strong support system of friends who really have your back.

Although I might be a little wary of acupuncture, I think that was a fascinating choice of career for our protagonist and set the stage for a very unique story. This was a solid thriller from the duo of E.G. Scott and I am thoroughly looking forward to their next book!

"In Case of Emergency" by E.G. Scott is a new thriller from Elizabeth Keenan and Greg Wands. This dynamic duo has written a fast paced, edge of your seat story and I am here for the ride! The story follows Charlotte who is a doctor troubled by her past that has moved into the field of alternative medicine. When she is listed as an emergency contact for a dead woman, her life goes into a tailspin and the mystery ensues. This thriller will leave readers guessing at each turn and makes for a great read! I particularly enjoyed the formatting as it utilizes multiple points of view. Detective Wolcott's was my favorite character to follow along with. I enjoyed the banter between him and Silvestre and his point of view in general. Great book, easy read and entertaining!

Give me all the neuro-science, alternative medicine, and police procedural stories! This book had it all, so I became engrossed pretty quickly. I thoroughly enjoyed the way the mystery unfolded, but the “big reveal” felt a little Lifetime movie’ish. I’m giving IN CASE OF EMERGENCY 4 big stars because the Law-&-Order-flower-child vibe made this book super suspenseful and hard to put down.

I loved The Woman Inside so when the publisher granted my wish for this one I was elated! This one, like the previous novel, has quirky and unique characters whose motives you are never quite sure of. Charlotte is an acupuncturist who once had a job as a surgeon, but circumstances forced her out. Now she works in a small office with her best friend, Rachel who does reflexology and massage. Charlotte has a new boyfriend and we know something is up with him as he's very secretive and claims he has a job with the government that prevents their relationship from going public. But when Charlotte is called on to identify a body and she has no idea who this woman is, things start to unravel quickly and all sorts of crazy things happen! And I do mean crazy! Yes, it's a little far-fetched but oh so entertaining! If you like thrillers, don't miss this one as it's a true roller-coaster ride!

I liked this interesting and unique mystery. It is about a neurosurgeon who is forced to quit medicine after a tragedy. She is now an acupuncturist and alternative healer. When she becomes implicated in a murder, her past as a surgeon comes back to haunt her.

The writing was fast-paced and very suspenseful and the many threads of the story came together well through the various narrators. The authors (who I just learned are a team of two lifelong friends) do a great job with the characters, the mystery, and building suspense throughout.

There were a couple plot points that were a little hard to swallow, but the authors did such a good job building thrills that I didn’t mind and really enjoyed the ride. I really liked the unique focus on alternative medicine and plant healing (and murder) techniques. There are a lot of thrillers out there treading the same ground, but this one felt new and different. I will definitely read the next mystery from this duo.

Thanks to NetGalley, Penguin and the authors for the advance copy in exchange for my honest review!

This one started slow for me but quickly sped up. I haven't read anything from this author before and I really enjoyed this one so I'm going to look for other titles.
Overall this ended up being a crazy thriller that I enjoyed.

Thanks to Netgalley for my advanced copy.

In Case of Emergency was a fun & suspenseful thriller! I can be real nit-picky with thrillers when I think the author(s) aren't playing fair with the reader but I was glad to find that wasn't the case here. I haven't read E.G. Scott's first novel, but hearing that the same detectives are featured in that one has me very interested as I thought they were two of the strongest characters in this one. Four stars - I would definitely recommend to others!

I was so excited to get In Case of Emergency, as I recently read and loved E.G. Scott's first book The Woman Inside. And I was thrilled when I realized the two detectives from their first book are partners on the case again in this one. In Case of Emergency is definitely a stand-alone book, but I highly recommend you pick up The Woman Inside while you wait for this one to come out.

Charlotte is a neurosurgeon turned accupuncturist who is called in by the police to identify the body. While she is relieved not to know the dead woman, Charlotte is unsure why her contact information is the only thing this woman had with her. As she tries to help the police learn who this stranger is and find a connection to her, Charlotte quickly realizes she's their primary suspect.

The two detectives are back with a bigger role this time, which provides some comic relief and banter. The rest of the book was a crazy, twisted, entertaining ride that hooked me in and kept me guessing. I was completely shocked when the killer's identity was revealed. The final scene was intense, and had me squirming on the edge of my seat. This duo certainly knows how to write a psychopath! Thanks to NetGalley for my early copy. In Case of Emergency comes out August 4, 2020.

I picked this book up because the publisher offered it to me and because the premise is fantastic. A woman is asked to come in and ID someone who's been murdered -- but whom she's never met before? BRILLIANT!

Unfortunately, the story itself just didn't work for me. I found the character motivations confusing and a bit hard to swallow. There were a lot of promising suspicions brought up in the first half of the book that weren't followed through the way I would've liked. The twists lacked logic. And the main character is difficult to relate to.

I'm sure plenty of other readers will feel differently (as I've gotten pretty picky with thrillers). Sadly, this is one that has a lot of good ideas behind it, but the execution didn't work for me.

Thank you Dutton Books via Netgalley for a free advanced e-copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

This a good, if slightly flawed, thriller. It's exciting and has some very good twists. I wish I had the author's creativity. He writes well and after the story gets going, it's quite fun. I'm confident this will do well once released. Recommended for thriller fans.

Thanks very much for the ARC for review.

I want to thank NetGalley, Penguin Group Dutton, and author E.G. Scott for providing me with an ARC of this novel!

Ahh, what an amazing thriller! I was initially pulled in by the synopsis, and I was so not disappointed! Charlotte was supposed to become the next big name in neuroscience, but after unsuccessful surgery, she is thrown out into the cold. She has an online support group for trauma survivors where she has made two friends, Rachel and Peter. Out of nowhere, Peter disappears. A few weeks later, the police contact her to make an ID on a dead body. She’s terrified it’s going to be Peter. When she arrives at the morgue, she is relieved to find the body of a woman she’s never seen before. But Charlotte soon realizes she is a person of interest. Why did this woman list her as her emergency contact? Where is Peter? I couldn’t put this down! I had to know what happened next. This kept me on my toes throughout the whole novel. If you’re looking for your next awesome thriller, pick this up!

Thank you again to those named above for the opportunity to read and review this novel!

Charlotte was destined to become the next big name in neuroscience. However, after unsuccessful surgery, she was thrown out into the cold. With a new career as an acupuncturist, she was happy to just leave her past behind. However, after two mysterious murders, Charlotte has become the prime suspect.

This has been the most amazing read. The book captivated me from the first sentence. There is an air of mystery that never seems to dissipate. The story drew me in slowly without the over the top twists and turns. I had a problem with Charlotte being so trustworthy even in her heart she knew that something was wrong in her new relationship. The connection between the protagonist and Charlotte was not explained thoroughly. The reason is given why this person was after Charlotte was semi-weak. I guess in a way Charlotte was just an easier target rather than the reason or contempt this person had for Charlotte.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for letting me read this fabulous ARC in exchange for an honest review.

An incredible thriller that kept me on my toes the whole time. The storyline was exceptional and the characters engaging and believable.

Charlotte is on an online trauma support group after the event that ended her career in neuroscience. Her friend Rachel and new boyfriend, Peter are also helping. When Peter disappears, Charlotte doesn’t dare report it to the police because he asked her to keep their relationship a secret. A few weeks later Charlotte is called in by police to identify a body; expecting it to be Peter, she’s shocked to discover it’s a woman and that she is a suspect in the woman’s death. Why would this woman have Charlotte listed as her emergency contact? And where is Peter? This is a twisted thriller that will have you guessing right up until the last page
