Dark Song is the 30th book in the Dark series by author Christine Feehan. I adore this series; I have read it all in order and highly recommend others do the same. Everything builds on each book.
Elisabeta was stolen from her own home when she was young. She was rescued but she has PTSD from it all. She doesn’t know how to live a normal life.
Ferro: before rescuing Elizabeta he was a warrior with no emotions. Now he feels everything. He has to protect his love from the vampire who once took her and wants her back.
I love this series. There is always a new twist or turn that keeps me reading and wanting more. If you are a fan of this series this one is amazing~! Even if you are not you will love the pure romance and adventure in this one. I cannot wait to know where this series goes next.

Good storyline with likable characters. I had great anticipation for this book. I absolutely LOVE Christine Feehan! I will continue to read the series.

I loved this newest installation to the Dark series. I could literally read this series for the rest of my life and never get tired of re-entering its beautiful and dark world. The stories always have something new about them and keeps them fresh so that I don't feel like I've seen every aspect of the world even if there are many books within it. Truly a talent.

I’ve been a fan of Christine Feehan for MANY years and have read all of the Dark Series and this last installment does not disappoint. While it started out slow in my opinion, I think it needed to so that the reader would understand where Elisabeta and Ferro are coming from: she a captive for centuries by a Master Vampire and he an ancient warrior who had lost all color for centuries. As the story continues they each start to come together (and as life mates there is not much choice!) and learn about this strange new world they find themselves in and how to work together. Along the way we meet other Carpathians that let us into what they have been doing as well. This was a good read and I would highly recommend this to readers that enjoy a good love story. Just be aware that the males in the story can be a little chauvinistic at times. If you don’t like that arc, this may not be the book for you.

Christine Feehan gets better and better! How is that possible,?

What I loved about this book is the pure love and emotional connection these two souls shared. This book so moved me that when I finished it, I started reading it again. I just didn’t want the story to end

Dark Song has to be one of my very favorites, the way that Ferro helped Elisabeta work her way back to having full life was so heartwarming. He was her shield as she grew but also pushed her to find her own strengths.

Brutalized, caged and isolated, how does Elisabeta ever adjust to the world after she's been freed? And this new world is centuries later since she was stolen from her family. This latest installment into the Carpathian world is brimming with misery, betrayal, and fear. Yet it is balanced with a little glimmer of hope.

I liked Elisabeta. She is a traumatized female doing her best to remove the conditioning of a mad man. For her, to have an old school Carpathian who is a warrior and an alpha male, it matches her perfectly. It does appear that this is the climax of the arc going on for the past several books. The show down against their real enemy is finally here and it is a big one. There are little scrimmages as well as major set backs. Through all of it, Elisabeta starts to find her strength. Even better, she starts to see herself through the eyes unfiltered by her crazed abuser.

This journey of emotional and mental healing as well as magical growth is a good one to read. It shows that no matter how dark and depressing a world has become, with a bit of faith, trust and love, there is a way to pull oneself out of it all. Elisabeta's plight is like many who suffer under domestic violence. Fortunately for her, she found her community to rally around her and boost her up when she suffers from doubt and despair. If only we could provide these kind of communities in real life to people in similar situations.

This paranormal romance is recommended to readers who love with good triumphs over evil.

This was a great addition to the Dark series by Christine Feehan. Ferro is one of the ancients from the monastery who have come to the United States to help with keeping the vampires in check. He did not think that he would find his lifemate. Having been stolen from her home Elisabeta has been in the hands of the vampire for most of her life. Yet she still knows her duty as the lifemate for Ferro. As these two find their way through the ups and downs of being lifemates and dealing with a master vampire makes this a great read.

I was pleasantly surprised by Dark Song, as this is the 30th (!!) book in a series that I've not really enjoyed, as vampires are not really my thing (sorry, Carpathians, as they're called in this series; the vampires are there, too, but they're definitely the bad guys). In fact, I have only read a few in the series, so I am definitely joining the party late... I'm thinking I might need to go back to, say, #15 and try again because I am curious enough about many of the other characters mentioned that I might just do that when I have a lull in my TBR pile.

I'll be honest, the first half of Dark Song was slow, and I found myself skimming quite a bit until the plot picked up. However, had it been paced any faster, some of the character motives and plot elements might not have been as believable, as there was trauma that needed to be worked through (slowly... that entire first half of the book). Clearly the author did a lot of planning and research to make the trauma recovery process believable.

I loved much of the imagery in Dark Song, even if some of the romantic Hopelessly-Devoted-To-You passages got a little long-winded.

This was such a great read! I love Christine Feehan's writing and I love this series, and I'm so glad that we've gotten 30 full length books so far, and the series doesn't seem to be slowing down in the slightest. Because it means that we got Elizabeta and Ferro's story, and we'll get future couples as well! I'm so happy and excited! Though it's sometimes hard to remember all the developments from previous books, especially if they haven't been mentioned in a while.

Elizabeta has a long road to recovery, after being kidnapped and held captive for most of her long life. And I felt for both her and Ferro, because of what she went through, and the healing that she needs. Healing that he had to balance letting her heal, but not be a permanent crutch so she could avoid dealing with her issues. So that was great to read. Because this book is more character driven than plot driven then other books, not as much was going on. On top of that, what she's used to are things that are pretty offensive to the modern woman, so he's judged for that. But he puts her first, which is the most important part!

There were maybe clarifications of the soul that they share. Maybe. Elizabeta was afraid what would happen if she lost hold of her half of the soul. But some of the terminology around this annoyed me, because sometimes it seemed like it was really just his soul or something, and that ticked me off a tad. Though I'm not sure if that was what was meant or not. But there were some intriguing plot developments that I'm excited to explore further in future books!

We did get to see some faces that we haven't seen in a while, get some updates in their lives, which was really great. Like Elizabeta's brother Tristan, and his lifemate, Jolie, and Darius and Tempest and their daughter. Plus we've known about Elizabeth and Ferro for a little while now, and I'm just so glad that we got these two as a couple, because because Elizabeta is older, she is more powerful, and that caused a few revelations which were really fun to read!

This was a really great read, and I can't wait to have more of this wonderful series!

This series has been very good in the past however these Carpathians can do to much. Their powers are too much and their personalities are weak. There needs to start being somethings resolved. Some of these conflicts have gone on for too long. Also, I am about tired of these macho men who demand complete submission from their women. it worked in this case because the heroine was from a time where this attitude was acceptable but this formula is becoming old and not ok in today's climate. I understand that this is her writing style and can be seen in all of her series but there needs to be some growth and change. The intermix of her language and English makes reading difficult at times. I do not want to read Carpathian and then right underneath it has the English translation. I know that she is trying to show her culture but it makes me start skipping ahead. Once that starts it is a downward slide to skipping parts of the plot because it bores me. I want to love these books but I can't.

Christine Feehan is a master at writing Paranormal Romances. She knows how to weave a story and how to get the reader engaged in what she is writing. Dark Song was an intriguing story about how love and trust can overcome the darkest pasts anyone could imagine.

Elisabeta and Ferro’s story was just that. He’s a vampire hunter that lived centuries. She was a captive of a vampire for centuries. Through time, hunters lose their emotions until they find their lifemate and Ferro was no different. Until he found Elisabeta. Everything came alive for him. He saw colors, he felt passion, he knew he would protect and savor his one and only forever. He didn’t know if she would want a man like him to spend the rest of her life with. He’s killed, he’s been through battles that no woman should ever see and she will once their minds meld. He’s a dominant man set in his ways and knows that she will need a gentle but firm touch to teach her all that she needs to learn in this new to her world.

As for Elisabeta, she was caged and tormented for as long as she could remember. She had her memories wiped and only knew fear and dominance. It would take coaxing and a gentle hand to bring her into the woman that she was meant to be. She knew, every time she heard the song, that her lifemate was calling to her. Would he want someone as scarred and scared as she was? Would she be able to stand by him and provide him with all that a lifemate should? She protected his soul for so long so that he wouldn’t turn vampire. But, the atrocities that she witnessed would now be known to him when their minds joined. She knew he would not want a woman like her standing by his side.

Each wakening is filled with trepidation by Elisabeta and joy by Ferro. As problems arise within the compound, they know that it’s the vampire causing it and trying to come for her. She is determined to use her gift to give back to her people, the people that saved her. She needs to overcome her fear of not being caged; she needs to learn to be Carpathian again; she needs to stand by Ferro and the friends that she made; she needs to trust Ferro to protect her, care for her, give her what she needs to survive.

Dark Song was an interesting story. Unfortunately, this is the first Carpathian Novel that I have read and, coming into the story, not understanding the background of all the characters, had me at a loss. At times I was confused, other times I felt like I understood. But, it was not an enjoyable read for me because I felt lost. It was a beautiful love story and could be read as a standalone but, I am one that really likes to know backstories and understand all the characters. It was beautiful watching Eliabeta come into her own and Ferro knowing just what she needed to get there. And they both had a little bit of a sense of humor which lightened things up a bit when everything was so dark in the story. The supporting characters each had their own gifts they brought to story line. They all had a hand in either Ferro’s life or the rescuing of Elisabeta so that added an extra something to when they were all together. I am sure followers of the Carpathian series will truly enjoy this story.

Feehan brings the ancient Ferro and the former captive Elisabeta's story to the forefront. Fans will enjoy delving back into the world of the Carpathians, but like the last few titles, this is not a good jumping on point for new readers due to the sheer volume of characters and back story involved.

It’s taken me forever to write this review because Elisabeta and Ferro’s story is so amazing and the direction the Dark/ Carpathian Series is taking is so addicting I could write pages. So I believed I’ve narrowed it down and if you hadn’t realized it yet, I highly recommend this series and Dark Song! I Have been awaiting these two and their story since Dark Legacy. Wondering how they would navigate their journey after all they faced, and the dangers still coming for them, tormenting her... how and if Sergey would be destroyed.
Dark Song is such a beautiful story of strength and courage. Not just the strength of physical prowess and cunning in battle...although in a Feehan Novel that's a given. But a true definition of strength of character and honor.
Ferro’s a hero who spent centuries fighting the vampire, protecting his people, all species. Then as the darkness, the lure of ending eternal emptiness, became too strong he secluded himself away in the Monastery with his Brethren, the Ancients. All determined to hold on to his honor, to remain strong, awaiting the one who could bring him his light, complete his soul. Returning to the world to help his people yet again and with the hope his lifemate may be within reach.
Elisabeta is a heroine who was stolen from her home, tortured and abused for centuries by Sergey Manilov, someone she once trusted, turned vampire who used her to gain power over others. She tolerated it all, yielded to him all she was, her memories, her physical and mental ability to function believing he was in complete control. But She refused to surrender what he wanted most, the one thing that she honored cherished most of all, the part of her Lifemates soul she carried. I love an Alpha Male that knows when to use his dominance and strength to protect and aid his lifemate and in true alpha form knows when to restrict that dominance and use his strength to allow her to, maybe stumble, but chose her path and learn to have confidence in her nature and her skills. Trusting that as lifemates they must do what makes the other happy and that Ferro is there for her and she has the ability to be there for him.
And as Elisabeta grows in confidence in herself, regains the most basic of abilities, grows in her trust of Ferro and the friendships she makes, she builds on her understanding of who she is as a lifemate and that she has a lot of amazing skills, intelligence and, all discover, a rare gift. It is their strength of character that helps them grow as individuals and from fated lifemates to lifemates in love. As she grows she discovers she has the ability, the knowledge, to help the Carpathians gathered to defeat their common enemy in the Manilovs, to defeat Sergey. .
And through the difficulty of learning their new norm and what's best for them, their story is filled with the most dreamy sigh moments of romance in its true definition. And the dangers they face, the healing support, both share, they find a path best for them, they find who they are to each other and the Carpathian people.
Their story is masterfully woven through an amazing plot driving the series, danger from the Manilovs continues and reveals more threats to the Prince and Tariq, and secrets revealed. What an amazing leader Tariq truly is. Your heart routes for all to find their happy ever after someday soon due interactions with ancients and Carpathians we love.It is exciting to see the Carpathians leaving their isolated hunting ways and adapting to modern, new strategic ways to fight and to become more of a society. Elisabeta’s story… finally!

Oh, I’ve waited for this story for a long, long time. This is the thirtieth book in the series – I know, how time flies, right? – yet it was (is) one of the best reads so far…

If you’re a fan, then Ferro and Elisabeta, and their families, are no strangers. They are Carpathians, slayers of vampires. They were warriors, defenders and, above all, lovers… Elisabeta’s story was heart wrenching. Crazy, melt your heart, wonder ‘how did she survive’ kind of stuff. Tormented for centuries, she knew Ferro was her lifemate but fear kept her from everything and everyone. Ferro knew her. How to soothe and allow her to heal, to give her space to re-learn her strengths and healing abilities. To cajole, encourage and command as needed. Christine Feehan keeps fueling fans with her series! It has been ten years since I started reading the Dark series and I can’t believe we’re on book #30! Readers have met so many of the Carpathians and their lifemates, of which I have my favorites along with some of the other characters. I still have a special place in my heart for Mikhail and Raven.

Finding Elisabeta was quite a surprise. Traian never stopped searching for his sister after her mysterious disappearance, yet he never imagined who her captor would be. Elisabeta’s confinement has been going on for centuries, so much that she could barely remember how to walk due to the conditions she was forced to be in. The world is too big for her during her initial days of freedom after healing. Her childhood memories have been erased and she suffers from a severe Stockholm syndrome. Everyone at the compound is trying to help her adapt while they face a threat only Elisabeta can sense.

Ferro is very overprotective of Elisabeta. He knows she will have a difficult time adapting to her regained freedom and the new world. She was a child in another time when she was taken away and Ferro spent years in the monastery, his secluded life will help him understand Elisabeta and her view of the new surroundings. I did feel he was a little too overprotective compared to some of the previous Carpathians.

There were some interesting elements to this story. I was so excited to read about Josef and Gary even if it may be a while until we know who their lifemates are, I can’t wait. Josef has become a more recurring character lately, especially being one of the few younger Carpathians who uses technology, something previously banned, his different physique also attracts attention since he isn’t built like the other men. Some interesting facts were revealed about Josef that I hope get explored in future books. Gary is now a second-in-command, quite a promotion from where we first saw him in Dark Magic, not to mention that he’s now a Daratrazanoff.

It was also interesting to read about, and slightly funny, how the Carpathians are vulnerable to technology. Vampires they can fight, but internet viruses they can’t. Josef was a big help to them and we got to see some of his potential as a modern age Carpathian warrior. Like it or not, Carpathians have to come into the new technology era and learn to coexist with it.

The vampires are becoming more dangerous and violent, not caring who they hurt and are obsessed with finding psychic women. Feehan delivers interesting and detailed action scenes when it comes to confronting the vampires and she didn’t fail this time around. The vampires making their lair in the woods with spiders and other creatures guarding it was spooky good! The compound is still in danger of being attacked, some of the children and women still need to recover from previous attacks and now the Carpathians face technological attacks as well.

There’s still one more Manilov brother to defeat, but more vampires are rising to power and are determined to kill the Carpathians. It’ll be exciting to see how this battle concludes in future books and which Carpathians the series will focus on afterwards. I don’t lose hope fans will get a big reunion in the future in the style of Dark Celebration 🙂

Dark Song is the 30th full-length novel in the Carpathian series and it is exquisitely written, lyrical, and suspenseful. Ferro and Elizabeta are perfect examples of true lifemates. Their bonding is so much more authentic because they were both born Carpathian; therefore the story wasn’t bogged down with conversion angst or baggage that human lifemates sometimes bring into the relationship.

These two simply radiated love and chemistry that felt organic and real. Poor Ferro, one of the monastery ancients, had nearly given up all hope of finding his one true mate until finding Elizabeta, who had been abducted as a very young girl by Sergei, an evil vampire from the traitorous and evil Malinov lineage.

The physical and emotional torture Elizabeta endured for centuries was horrible. The author brilliantly dealt with describing the resulting trauma on a survivor then gently moved the character forward towards healing; a healing isn’t cured with love and/or sex but with patience and empathy. Therefore, I never viewed Elizabeta as a victim or broken, she was given the time to become who she was meant to be. There is a Japanese art form, Kintsukuroi, which is repairing brokenness with gold. Ferro was the gold to restore Elizabeta to wholeness...and she was the golden light to restore his soul.

Elizabeta learns to trust her lifemate as an equal, not just a protector to to hide behind. It’s awesome when Elizabeta comes into her full power as a full-blood Carpthian woman. The sex scenes were intimate and intense, without coming across as filler.

I was ecstatic to see previous characters as Traian, Elizabeta’s brother, his life mate Jolie, my beloved Josef, the former Troubadours Darius and Tempest, Julian and Desari! The family element is very heartwarming; sometimes it seems as if Carpathians prefer nurture outsiders while ignoring their families of origin. So, it was very heartwarming to see Traian traveling to reunite with his long lost sister.

Dark Song was the return to the magic and romance that made this series so beloved to so many for over two decades. Bravo Ms. Feehan for creating a world that weaves such emotion, suspense, love, and hope for the reader. The Carpathian world continues to expand with exciting new challenges and wonders that leaves the reader enchanted and transported to a magical place. #DarkSong #NetGalley

SOME BACKGROUND: All Carpathian males must find their lifemates before they turn vampire or greet the dawn. Without a lifemate, the males no longer see in color, feel pain or experience emotions. Centuries earlier a teenaged Elisabeta was abducted by a Carpathian male nearing the end of his life of honor but in the ensuing years the male would turn vampire using and abusing our heroine, starving her in the hopes of recapturing his soul. Upon her rescue and recovery in the healing soil, Elisabeta would trigger Ferro Arany’s emotions, and find herself waking as the lifemate to an ancient warrior but all is not well as Elisabeta’s rescue has angered the master vampire, the remaining Malinov brother, and his vengeance will target many people at Tariq’s Carpathian compound. Elisabeta Trigovise grew up never knowing how to be a Carpathian female. Stripped of her memories of a time before her violent abduction, a fragile and broken Elisabeta struggled to perform the basic of needs yet within days of her claiming, our heroine would become one of the Carpathian’s most powerful females. As an ancient warrior, Ferro Arany knew very little about the modern world and battled to accept the rise of feminism in the Carpathian community thusly, Elisabeta, from a time long ago, is the perfect foil for a man who prefers his woman submissive and meek.

The relationship between Elisabeta and Ferro is a fated mating. Elisabeta’s rescue and ultimately her voice would trigger Ferro’s colors and emotions, and in this there are no questions as to the reality and truth of who is her lifemate. Elisabeta struggled with her freedom, preferring or opting to have Ferro speak when spoken to including the inability to acknowledge her brother’s love. Ferro ids a warrior who never thought he would find his fated mate. His patience and need to protect the woman he loves manifests with songs of love, nature and a time long ago. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters. All of the Carpathians remain guarded at Tariq’s American compound. Several of the original Carpathians return to help fight the master vampire including Josef but much of the other’s presence is more by way of acknowledgement and mention. As to the master vampires, once again, Ferro recognizes a number of his former warriors and friends-the list of names and connections are many.


If you are a long time reader of the Carpathian series you will recognize a familiar format and pattern to the author’s latest story line-reminiscent of Xavier’s attempts to destroy the Carpathian’s and of one woman’s ability to heal the wounded. Saying that, when an author recycles and repeats a previous formula, I question the author’s lack of innovation and imagination as he/she is relying on the success of a former story line arc. I also struggled with the heroine’s earlier fragility and inability of comprehend basic personal needs and survival skills, yet within days she is one of the most powerful females with abilities beyond comprehension, and is able to direct the most skilled of warriors. The information she reveals and her competence and skill level is a complete shift in direction to her initial introduction and behavior yet there is no mention of hidden abilities that seemingly manifested overnight. She waffled between powerful or apprehensive on numerous occasions.

I would also like to note how Feehan’s vampires have evolved to modern day IT techs and wizards….something I didn’t see coming !

DARK SONG is an intoxicating tale. The premise is familiar yet captivating; the romance is seductive.

This is the 30th (30th!!!) in this series. But the amazing part? I can’t wait for even more. As one of the Queens of Paranormal, in my opinion, I can’t get enough of her stories. And this time we read Elisabeta and Ferro. Elisabeth has been a captive for so longer once she is no longer a prisoner she doesn’t know how to live. Ferro is willing to take it slow and teach her that love is not another prison.

Another incredible read from Feehan. No matter how many times I travel into a world of Feehan I can’t wait to visit again.

If you've been reading this series then you already know Elisabeta. She's the heroine of this book and her story is a very sad one. She was captured by a vampire who kept her hostage for a very long time and once she was rescued and safe, her lifemate found her. Now she's healing, mentally and physically so she can get to know her lifemate.

Ferro is a Carpathian warrior and knew as soon as he heard Elisabeta's voice that she was his lifemate. She's been in captivity for so long that she's afraid of everything so he has to curb is own alpha personality and be extra gentle with her.

When Sergey sets out to get Elisabeta back from the compound that she's safely tucked away in with Ferro, he and the others will not stop until she's safe. But when the ancients, kids, and humans all start to develop anger issues at the compound, the healer knows that something isn't right. Somehow Sergey or his minions have succeeded in getting inside and infecting some of the people there. It's an all-out war between them and Sergey when he turns the danger up a notch in his obsessive need to get Elisabeta back. But then we learn Sergey isn't only after her and a new and surprising twist is thrown in the story.

All the while, Ferro is there by her side, being strong for her, showing her that he can be trusted and that she's not the coward she thinks she is. With Ferro's help, Elisabeta slowly comes out of her shell and shows everyone that she's a strong woman with gifts of her own.

I've been reading this series from the beginning and have loved most of the books but I have to say that Ferro and Elisabeta are one of my favorite couples. They are so good together and make each other better and stronger. I liked that we got to see some characters from past books and a small look at how they are doing. I liked that new characters were introduced and hope to see them in upcoming books. I always look forward to the next book in this series and this one did not let me down.
