Some great basic drawing for children around the ages of 5-7. Familiar pictures with clear instructions.
I can draw Farm fun by Dover Publications is a great book to help children learn to draw farm animals. The instructions were easy to follow. The animals were cute. my children really enjoyed using this book
Grid drawing has been around for a long time and it does work to help break down parts of drawings, plus helps with scale and placement. I've tried that technique many times over the years in fun books like this one. Each of these animals are absolutely adorable. And if you can mimic the drawings, you're going to have some fantastic cartoon animal drawings.
Each animal, except for the first one, is broken down into six steps. The new lines to draw are done in blue, with your previous lines in black. Some add only a couple of lines and then others are even more intricate in each step. They definitely get harder as you go through the book and practice on the provided grid. I think I would have liked some extra grids in the back for further practice and/or experimentation.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for fulfilling my review request. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This book would be the perfect gift for a child, probably 6-9, who enjoys or has an interest in drawing. The animals are cute and are broken down into six steps that are fairly easy to follow. I like how that each completed drawing is shown in black and white as well as color. Any budding artist would love to have this book!
The first how-to-draw books I picked up were I Can Draw Farm Fun and I Can Draw Silly Sea Life. These were some of the simplest books to follow and combined both the grid method and step-by-step method. Each creature had a double-page spread with a step-by-step method layered on top of a grid on the left-hand page. On the right-hand page was a blank grid for you to practice with and a full color finished picture at the same scale, often with extra features added on such as flowers behind a bee or a pond around a frog.
I started out by drawing some of the farm animals in my sketchbook but also used these designs for another idea. By drawing some of the sea life creatures onto white card, I was able to cut them out and mail them to a family member to make them smile. I also altered the cartoon rabbit in the I Can Draw Farm Fun book so he was carrying chocolate eggs in his basket rather than carrots and sent him off in the mail for Easter.
These books contain a good selection of designs to draw with 17 subjects in each book. I Can Draw Farm Fun includes the usual animals you would expect like cows, sheep, and chickens but also more unusual ones like llamas and flamingos (no, I’ve never seen a flamingo on a farm either) and a handful of other farm-related objects like a house and a tractor. I Can Draw Silly Sea Life includes fish, seals, and dolphins but also a lot more cartoon-style designs like a surfing rabbit, a girl in a swimsuit and rubber ring, and a jellyfish wearing a snorkel.
These were some of my favorite how-to-draw books from this collection and I know I’ll be returning to them in the future. Two more books are also available in the series: I Can Draw Cute Animals and I Can Draw Things That Go.
I Can Draw! Farm Fun is a delightfully useful line drawing activity book for youngsters. Released 15th April 2020 from Dover, it's 32 pages and available in paperback booklet form.
The drawings are encouragingly simple and the step by step tutorials are accessible and easy to follow and replicate. Each of the 17 drawings has a coloring page, a tutorial series, and a blue line grid for reproducing the picture. This book is part of a series with lots of how-to books with similar formats. The included tutorial drawings are farm scenes with animals such as a goose, bee, cow, frog, ladybug, deer, and familiar farm objects like a house, tractor, etc.
Great selection for a gift for a young artist, perhaps with some added sketch pads and pencils. This would also make a superlative classroom or library book. I would also recommend this book to babysitters, grandparents, parents, and basically anyone who spends a fair bit of time with small kids in order to up their 'draw with me' game. I really enjoyed this (and managed to recreate a recognizable horse).
Five stars. This is a fun activity book and will provide hours of quiet play.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
Thank you NetGalley and publishers for an ARC. All opinions are my own.
This is an easy simple guide on how to draw various farm inspired animals and people. It breaks down each image into 6 steps or less and uses graph paper to help guide artists on how to create each image.
Recommended for young artists and old!
I will be using this with my 3rd graders for guided art drawing!!
Tutti gli animali della fattoria semplificati in modo che chiunque possa disegnarli - perfetto per chi, in questo momento, deve intrattenere dei bambini, disegnando per loro o insegnando loro a disegnare dalle basi .
Bello e utile.
Very simple pictures that look quite childish even though you can easily draw simple animals that look a little better. Good instructions but the choices of farm animals are sometimes confusing. Is that a flamingo?
I received a complimentary review copy of #ICanDrawFarmFun from #NetGalley
This is a short book with instructions on how to draw 17 animals. Each page spread has drawing steps on the left, shown on a grid for easy replication, and on the right there is a completed colored image of the drawing as well as a blank grid to draw the picture yourself. I highly recommend this book to children learning how to draw, or adults who want to learn how to do child-style drawings/doodles.
