There really aren't enough books devoted to helping women understand their health--especially not periods. I think some of the advice isn't for me, but some of it I'll take into practice and at the very least, it gave me something to think about and to ask my doctor.

Fix Your Period is a well-researched resource for all people of the female species looking to make that "time of the month" less challenging. Every woman should be able to read a book like this to understand how their body works. No one ever talks to girls/women about their hormones and how they affect EVERYTHING. We are just told we get "hormonal" and there isn't anything we can do besides eat chocolate and wallow. Bullcrap. Fix Your Period provides a six week plan to help females have better periods. I look forward to taking the steps mentioned and improving my monthly flow without the need for additional hormones.

I received this as an ARC in return for an honest review. Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for allowing me to read this title.

As a woman who suffers from irregularities in PMS and menstruating symptoms, I was eager to read this text. I learned more in depth of the actual process of the cycle, rather than the usual "skirting over" education from middle school health class. I especially appreciated the inclusion of food lists and recipes to aid with easing bloating and other unwanted factors. Thank you for the opportunity to access this ARC, Netgalley.

Packed with thoroughly researched content, "Fix Your Period" is a golden resource for any woman experiencing period-related problems and/or hormonal imbalances. Even with only minor period issues, it was so helpful for me to get to know my body so much better - and treat it better, too.

The cover would suggest that this book is directed at young teenagers, but it's not the case. I sure wish I had read it sooner, but it's dedicated to all women regardless of their age. It's a present I wish I could give everyone, to be honest.

The first section of the book covers the biological ABC of periods, from how the cycle works, the functions of key hormones, the effects of their imbalances, to what various period problems are trying to tell you. This part is jam=packed with scientific information, and you will want to make a lot of highlights for your own reference - but funny enough, the author somehow manages to use just the right amount of humor to make me smile and feel like I can really resonate with the content and all the women going through the same thing.

Next, we have the Six Week Program, a super accessible plan to help your hormones balance out, highly focused on diet and lifestyle. Who would have known that you can fix, like, almost everything in your body through diet and lifestyle? Maybe it sounds obvious, but Jardim actually puts science on each little thing (e.g. what compound in broccoli influences specific hormones and how that can help solve period problem x). I'm planning to fully implement it (today is Monday, it's a sign if I ever needed one) and report the results. Finally, we also get delicious sounding recipes, resources and motivating words of encouragement from the author.

While this book has an obvious audience in mind, the information provided is for overall wellness and can be helpful to anyone. The book focuses on nutrition, sleep patterns, nutritional supplements, and eliminating harmful chemicals from your home. I think it is very useful for increasing good habits to improve health. It also provides a lot of information about menstrual cycles and how to use them to monitor health concerns.

Nicole Jardim really is the period girl. In this book, she explains in fairly simple language what happens to your body and why hormones are key to the functions. Going indepth about hormones helps make them less complicated and more friendly as they are not something to hate despite the bad reputation. In the first week of the 6 week program, she goes indepth of foods that help with hormone regulation which is a great reference guide for any woman.

This is an oft-discussed topic in our women's group, and pretty much every single question I've heard kicked about recently was answered in this book! The author definitely has put a lot of time and research into the book, and there are parts that get really science-y, but you could easily skip over those books and get to the meat...where she just talks to you in layperson's terms...and still get quite a bit out of the book. She keeps it real, and light-hearted, and it's very accessible to women of all ages!

So maybe you looked at the cover of this book and thought, "Ugh, I don't want to spend hours reading about my period." Wrong! You DO want to read this book. In addition to approaching the topic with a good sense of humor, this book is chock full of information that will help you feel better, even if you aren't feeling particularly bad. Full disclosure, my own period sucks and I have decided to eliminate it entirely which has massively improved my life, but after reading this book I am persuaded that maybe, MAYBE I could have the results she describes without taking the Pill.

The book lays out a six week plan for fixing your period that has a lot of excellent info - the nutrition section alone is helpful not just for balancing your hormones but is consistent with what a lot of my other doctors and naturopaths have told me. (It has always been shocking to me how many doctors have little to say about nutrition - not so here!) I do love my carbs, so reading about how bad sugar and carbs are for you always makes me sad, But she makes a good case here. She also has awesome instructions for beginning an elimination diet, which I have done and which helped me immensely (with FAR less great help than this!)

I have not yet fully followed the protocol here, because step one is getting off birth control, but I've started to implement the nutrition recommendations and they seem to be helping. Bottom line, this is an entertaining and extremely informative book that demystifies a lot of this stuff and breaks down the science in a way even a science-phobic person like me can understand. The author has a great voice, is not overly crazy strict with her protocol, and knows a ton. Basically, I wish she was my gynecologist. Thanks to NetGalley, Nicole Jardim and Harper Wave for this great book, which is a solid five star read and jam packed with useful information!

This book is a treasure-trove of information.

If you experience abnormal menstruation, want to know how you can support your hormones naturally, are curious about hormone-free methods of birth control, you should read this book. Everyone who has a cycle should, honestly. I've researched and been interested in periods for a few years, but still came across information that was new to me while I read. Nicole presents her knowledge, experience, and opinions in a way that is clear, concise, organized, and science-backed.

The first part of the book is a walk-through of different conditions and symptoms a woman might experience, as well as a picture of what a normal period should look like. The second part contains a six-week protocol to getting your hormones on track, with detailed explanations of the methods chosen. There are specific advanced protocols for certain things like endometriosis and PCOS. There is a section on hormone-free birth control. This book is like the period Bible, full of resources and wisdom.

I highlighted huge amounts of material and learned so much. I can't wait to get the physical copy in my hands once it's published. Thanks, Nicole!

Well thought out and put together. I appreciate the levity used, but also the research behind a lot of it. This is one I would definitely like to buy to have on hand and follow the 6 week program.
