This volume written by a former surgeon general doesn't quite hold up in a world facing Covid-19. Dr. Murthy examines lonliness and social isolation and critiques virtual connections. In a world where we need to find connections while being physically distant, this critique doesn't quite hold up. And, while her points on isolation and connection are well taken, her information and delivery are nothing new, really.

I don't know if I would call this groundbreaking. This is similar enough to Putnam's Bowling Alone that discussed similar issues (social captial) and was published twenty years ago. I think the main difference from a sociological to a more medicinal perspective is worth noting and makes this a worthwhile read.
