After reading the original version in our class, The Great Gatsby: A GRAPHIC NOVEL is colorful and entertaining - and a wonderful addition to the unit instead of the film. The colors are bright, and could be used as an additional text, but doesn't replace the original as the text is abbreviated.
I love The Great Gatsby, the original novel. And I love it in a way that you'd want to keep reading it in different forms and formats and never get tired of it.
In this graphic adaptation, the visuals are a delightful addition to the story narrative. The bling and blitz that Fitzgerald creates in his novel's setting are brought to life in very soft illustrations. It isn't vulgar without meaning, but rather just the appropriate amount of shine to capture the excess of materials and emotions.
After reading the original version, The Great Gatsby: A GRAPHIC NOVEL has taken the scenes and characters I once fell in love with to the page in a visual way. It was entertaining, colorful, exciting to be able to actually witness the story full-fleshed in a most vivid way.
As far as classics go, I really enjoyed this one. I have not seen the movie, but maybe one day soon.
The graphic novels are really interesting. Recently I have read Pride and Prejudice graphic novel now it's our gatsby. You can sure give it a try
There are a lot of classics being adapted to graphic novels lately. Many do it well, adding a fun twist to the story in some way or utilizing the graphic aspect to enhance the experience for the reader. Unfortunately, I don't think that this version managed to do either. Little was changed about the story and the images neither moved nor wowed me. Still it's a solid adaptation that tells the story but I would really only recommend it for die-hard Gatsby fans who want all the content they can get, or people who were only ever going to read it in graphic format.
This is such a fun way to introduce the classic story of the Great Gatsby to the next generation! I love the cover and the illustrations in the story.
The graphic representation of the famous book The Great Gatsby. If I'm being honest, I've never read this book before so I thought it will be interesting to read it as a graphic novel. As good as this book can be, the graphic novel is a piece of art. The graphics have been a painter in watercolors presenting the extravagance and mystery of the story and its characters. The text wonders around the illustrations and appears on the roads, buildings, walls. Each page in this book is unique and astonishing.
The book tells the story of Nick Carraway, an average man who's living right next to the infamous Gatsby. Throughout the book, he narrates the events that are happening between the people that surround him. His life gets much more interesting when he finally meets Gatsby and becomes a good friend of his. The friendship is mostly based on Nick being fascinated by Gatsby's life, and Gatsby trying to get to his long-lost lover Daisy, Nick's dear cousin.
The graphic novel captures the energy of an era and the story perfectly. With the colors, it shows perfectly the emotions, and tension between the characters. I was so amazed by the artistic perspective of this book that I read it all on my phone just so I could enjoy it fully since my e-reader is black and white. I think this book is perfect for people that are interested in this story but can't motivate themselves to read the book. This graphic novel will give you a full experience of this masterpiece.
I would like to thank Candlewick Press and NetGalley for providing me with this ARC copy of this amazing graphic novel!
A reimagining of the classic book, The Great Gatsby, in a graphic novel format. The book seemed to follow the storyline of the movie rather than create its own take or follow the actual book.
It was much better than the last adaptation I read of Great Gatsby. I liked the illustrations and thought the story was sufficiently condensed to be properly promoted as a graphic novel. I believe secondary school children find it easy to adapt after reading the original storey. This adaptation could be confusing, however, without knowing any background in the story. Sometimes I even found myself confused.
Great Gatsby was one of my favorite books and this graphic novel truly brought the story to life in a new way. It reminded me of the movie, which I absolutely loved. The use of color theory in this graphic novel was amazing.
I got this on Netgalley in exchange for an honest review!
I've been meaning to read The Great Gatsby for ages, but I'm always scared to read classics both because I'm scared they will disappoint me or just be very difficult, so when I thought this would be a great way to dip my toe into the story! So glad I started with this too, since it utilizes both the characters' lines, but also does a good job at mixing pictures and text to show the protagonist's thoughts and previous experiences. Really recommend!
This graphic novel really just missed the mark for me. I read the original novel in January, so the novel and story line were still fresh in my mind, and reading this I found some inconsistencies. The art was very beautiful and well done. The illustrations' tone and colours did fit the tone of the graphic novel.
The graphic novel as a whole just fell flat and felt kind of disingenuous. It felt like a very superficial and basic telling of the story. A lot of the important parts were left out and there was not as much emotion that is in the book.
It doesnt support or open after I download the pdf version of it. It's also not showing in my shelf in netgalley and I cant open it to read Please look into the issue and if you can send me the pdf in my mail ID- taniagungunsarkar@gmail.com I cant read the book from here. Please look into the issue
DNF at around 90 pages.
I fully intended to finish this book, but I lost track of how much time I had left on the temporary digital file from NetGalley and didn't get through it before it expired. The truth is that I wasn't very motivated, because even though this had seemed like an interesting concept, the adaptation was very simplistic, and it was hard to read as a digital file, since words from the text would swirl across the page in different shapes.
This graphic novel isn't a replacement for reading the original book, since it covers the basics without fully delving into the characterization or themes, but it could be helpful for reluctant readers or students who are struggling with the classic and would find this simplification and visualization helpful for them to understand and make it through the original text.
I haven't had the chance to read the original, abridged novel version yet. Going by the events in the movie, this graphic novel is faithful to the overall sequence. I liked the art because it not only looked good, it didn't distract me from the story/text. I'd recommend this book to others who haven't read the novel because it gives an accurate gist of what happens in the novel.
I'm so glad that I requested this book on Netgalley!
This adaptation of the Great Gatsby surprised me by maintaining the feel of post WWI modernism ,while also bringing to life, the Fitzgerald’s metaphors. The watercolors used throughout also provided a great artistic era representation. I definitely see this book as YA with its mature content maintained tastefully within this text.
I thought this was a great adaptation of the 1920s flapper era jazz age classic The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I loved the art style and how they took the plot and made it into a form for all ages to enjoy. This followed the actual story and there was no add ins to it.
I received an arc of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This was a beautiful graphic novel of The Great Gatsby! The illustrations were very well done. I liked how the author took some of the figurative language and the story literally, but also did normal illustrations too. I also enjoyed the authors note and how it explains some of the images used in the book. Some of the illustrations were hard to see, but that could obviously be because I was reading it on my phone. Also, some of the characters were hard to tell apart. Other than that, everything was great!
Overall I enjoyed this book and I would recommend it to people who like classics or are just looking for a good graphic novel to read.
This was a great take on the original classic with quick illustrations and beautiful colors. The adaptation stayed true to the original, and would be a great companion when teaching this novel to a younger audience.
